I've been super tempted for days to check out that prologue video, but I reaaaally want to start the game with as little previous knowledge as possible.
All I really need to know is that Maya's back. swoons
As this seems to be the place to talk about the entire series, I just finished the Miles Edgeworth Investigations game. Now I just have to wait for Dual Destinies to go on sale again, an I will be all ready for this to come out. I liked the new gameplay mechanics (investigating, logic) but thought it was a lot easier than previous games. If you just pressed through the testimony parts, the dialogue between you and your partner would pretty much spoon-feed you what you needed to do. It was also weird that throughout the first games Edgeworth just took every crime scene at face value and Wright had to find the proof to counter it, but here Edgeworth is the only one who doesn't take everything at face value and questions it all. This might make sense after he has learned these things from Wright, but not in the case where it goes back in time to his first ever case. Also all the time travelling between cases made the story a little hard to follow. But it was still fun.
@LemonSlice: Yeah, I actually played that before any of the Ace Attorney games because I'm a big Layton fan and I knew it was a side story and wouldn't ruin anything.
One thing I really want after playing through these games is some deeper and more varied experiences. For instance, there was one case in the first game where from the beginning even the prosecutor admits that your client has no motive for the murder, and then about halfway through the case it is proven that your client could not have done it. Yet at the end, you have to prove that the person you think is the real killer had a motive or else your client is declared guilty. I think it would be cool if once you prove your client's innocence, you win the case. But then you can keep going, maybe with a spike in difficulty or always getting penalized even just for pressing irrelevant testimony, and if you can find and prove the real killer you unlock some cool things or a bonus case or something like that.
Then there was another one where the person you are sure is the murderer flees and if Gumshoe can't find him before he leaves the country you will lose the case. But you just move along on your end and at the last minute Gumshoe brings him back to court. I wish it would do something like move over to playing as Gumshoe with Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? type of gameplay (if anybody else is old enough to remember that) where you have to follow clues with a real-time timer to try to find the guy before the time's up or else he escapes and you lose.
@Xyphon22: You're over-analyzing things and nitpicking. The games are carefully planned and thought out, there are a dozen times more ideas proposed by the staff than end up in each game. The story operates on it's own logic and the rules within it's own universe, in which reality has been endlessly bent for our enjoyment.
If you have ideas of the kind of game you'd like, why not try making one yourself?
( http://amzn.com/1590596153 ) Or write a story, that's always fun.
I'm not sure how thinking it odd that you can be found guilty even though you have already been proven innocent is over-analyzing, but it doesn't really matter. I love these games, I was just sharing my thoughts on things I would like to see and that I think would be fun.
Yeah, I know it's a fake video game world and anything goes which is why I am okay with it. It's funny, my wife is a nurse, and every time some kind of drug plays a significant part in the story I ask her if she knows about it, but none of them are ever real. I just think it would be cool if there was a game that did those kinds of things I mentioned above, not necessarily in the series.
@Xyphon22: The fact that the drugs aren't real are most likely for a couple of reasons: it gives more creative freedom, it makes sure no one get any funny ideas, and it means the games don't advertise real life products. The last one does not only make sure that real life companies don't get free advertising but also makes sure that the drug companies can't sue the developer or publisher for featuring their products in a bad light.

@Nego: Yeah, I just think it's funny because I keep falling for it every time. I guess that's because they do such a good job of making it seem so real and possible. It really is a great series. Looking forward to playing the next one.
@Xyphon22: I wish I could say the same. I really love the series but I'm not really into what the new team is doing with the series. I would have loved it if Shu Takumi had stayed in rein of the main series.
Don't get me wrong. Dual Destinies was alright. But that's the thing: it was alright instead of good. I enjoyed it but it did lack the charm and magic of its predecessors. The sad thing is that I'm way more interested about Dai Gyakuten Saiban than Ace Attorney 6. : (
