I got the update about 5 hours ago and have been playing with the Wireless on and haven't received the BSOD yet. Does this mean that the update took on the issue? Or has anyone gotten the BSOD?

the name is stupid. nothing like the RROD. you just have to reset the console
Read carefully. BSOD, not RROD.
BSOD: Black Screen Of Death (or Blue Screen of Death in Windows) - when a computer or console crashes irreversibly, leaving an unresponsive black screen. Forced reset is only way to recover from it. Gets its "of Death" part from it generally indicating a much more serious error in PCs compared to the 3DS. If your Windows BSODs, there's a decent chance you might want to think about quickly backing up your files and buying a new hard drive. In the 3DS it's not so serious, just a firmware crash.
RROD: Red Ring of Death - XBox 360-specific diagnostic indicator warning of an internal hardware failure. Requires hardware repair/replacement.

Well, yes. They're two different things. Don't think anyone compared the two.

The name compares the two. They are both 'of death'. And frankly I would agree that black screen of death is a stupid name for it; there is nothing even remotely 'deadly' about the 3DS's problem.
Please sign my petition to get a European (and Australian) release for Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked for the 3DS. Don't let Europe be deprived of another amazing game.

Having the BSOD pop up after hours on a long RPG is pretty deadly.
