The only way I can continue to forgive the lack of an obvious game like Metal Gear is my hope that it will be released the same week as MGS4. That would be hilarious. But the point about Brawl already being out in Japan is depressing, cause I'd heard that there were VC demos in Brawl, and figured that they'd have to fill out the roster with games featuring the likes of Solid Snake and Ness. But, yeah, it appears to not be happening. At least WiiWare is looking good.
Now I'm kind of worried about the gameplay. A lot of people from movies and other areas of entertainment think that all it takes to make good games is to have good ideas, but that's often not the case. Not that I won't check it out, cause it's gonna look and sound incredible, but games are about gameplay. Who knows, it could turn out great anyways.
@Jogurt: "The existence of such a collection is the "some reason" that keeps Mega Man off the North American VC." Is it? It's out of print. Capcom doesn't make any money off Ebay sales.
Owesome! LostWinds looks dope and Telltale is an obvious mark of quality. Imagine if Sierra ported the King's Quest games to WiiWare! My only concern is that, in the IGN interview, the dude said WiiWare games were gonna be released a few at a time like VC titles. Pull your head out, Ninty. P.S. It boggles my mind that there are still crazed fanboys out there defending the lack of a memory solution. Who cares if you don't play every game every day, being able to access anything out of your library whenever you feel like it is the ideal, and there's zero reason it shouldn't happen.
"this sci-fi epic packs in around 40 hours of gameplay and therefore represents an ideal purchase if you have nothing better to do with your life than sit around in your underwear all day long." Nice.
If the VC had a packed release schedule, I would understand, being concerned that a game would have poor sales would make a little sense, but when they're only releasing one or two, it's baffling. Send everything up the flagpole and see who salutes. I can't imagine that the overhead for Nintendo to keep these games on a server is that much more than $0.00. If a game sold poorly duing its lifespan, here's their chance to find that niche audience without having to press disks/cartridges or print up manuals. If Nintendo could give us any sort of hint that SOME kind of logic was being used with their release schedule, I'd personally find it less frustrating. My ideal for the VC would be to have a library of lost classics like Metal Storm and Ogre Battle 64, but seeing as we haven't even seen Majora's Mask or the Metal Gears, how can I hope for an Earthbound Zero or the PC Engine Rondo of Blood? Why are the titles so slanted to racers and beat em ups while action games like Contra and Bionic Commando get the shaft? And this is all taking into account that Square-Enix will continue to charge full price for DS "re-makes" of their classic NES & SNES games and that any Rare games without Donkey Kong in the title are increasingly unlikely. Almost all of these games have Publishers with multiple titles on the VC or are first party, so it's not like I'm demanding some souped up online version of Goldeneye. I don't know, it just makes no sense to me.
@Manicfatty: agreed, I think the main problem with homebrew Saturn emulation is that it was an extremely unorthodox system in its design, and a lot of the time the people working on these projects are trying to reverse engineer the entire thing. Add to that the fact that it was created with 2d in mind and Devs had to be even more unorthdox to coax 3d out of it. For hobbyist projects it's a massive undertaking, but even they're making strides. Given Nintendo and Sega's current relationship, it shouldn't be too hard for Sega to bring the necessary data and make it happen. Saturn emulation on the VC would be a massive coup.
This is sort of the debate that rages around all downloadable content. Most people get angry when companies do shady things like include content on the game disk that yo have to pay for a code to unlock. As for SSBB, I think you'd have a pretty hard time arguing that this isn't an incredibly full featured, densely packed game. Although it could set a bad precedent, I can only see the possibility of even more Nintendo quality content as a positive thing.
I really like his last comment about chosing a platform for a game rather than developing for a platform. Not too interested in the game, but I wish more devs had his attitude.
@New Player: The original code for PDS has been lost, so the only way to recreate is either emulate it or rebuild it from the ground up (i.e. not happening) I see no reason why, once the VC level profits start rolling in, we won't start seeing titles like these on WiiWare. I guess Rez wouldn't be HD, but imagine playing it with the Wiimote.
It seems like a memory solution is becoming more and more inevitable. Thank god. Don't worry fanboys, Nintendo will tell you what to think now and you'll forget all about the "fridge" analogy.
@toaster "Given the massive collection of Nintendo games to be had, if they unleashed all the "best" on us, most people would quit buying games" Huh? So if people could get Metal Storm and Castlevania : Bloodlines, they wouldn't buy Brawl. Is that what you're saying? VC is free money for Nintendo to store a rom on a server. This trickle of mediocre games is WEAK, there's no getting around it. If you really think Nintendo is just taking a "mild but steady stream of cash while they wait on the piles to roll in from some of the no-brainer titles," you should probably be kind of mad about it. I am.
I don't usually like to say graphics and sound are that big of a deal, but I think they're a big factor in my love of Actraiser. While the action and sim sections on their own are merely good, I think the art and music in the game and the pacing between the two styles are what makes it great. Personally, I like being able to platform for a while and then chill out on the sim stages. It makes you excited about each section when you start it. It's a shame there was never a TRUE sequel. Essential part of my library.
Wow. So now that Bionic Commando Rearmed is coming to XBLA, PSN and PC (No WiiWare), I'm guessing no original Bionic Commando for VC? The VC has so much potential and, apart form StarTropics, it's been eating it for months. This shouldn't be hard, Nintendo. VC is free money. Win win. When all the soccer moms and senior citizens get sick of Wii Bowling, you're gonna need us gamers. And all it would take is Mega Man 2, Metal Storm and Earthbound this Monday for me to forgive all.
I could write a long wishlist of games like Ogre Battle 64 and Snatcher, but a two game where one is complete garbage and the other is a puzzle game is ridiculous when stuff like Mega Man 2 and Castlevania III is just sitting there.
I like this game, but I can understand why people wouldn't. This is from the era of games that didn't contain tons of content, so there are serious challenges to overcome to move forwards. If you got on board with A Link to the Past or later, you probably expect to be able to play for an hour and make some sort of progress through the game. To get anywhere in Zelda II, you have to work, so when you do, you feel a real sense of achievement. Some players are willing to punish themselves to get that feeling. Some aren't. Almost no modern games require this. Even the difference in difficulty between Ocarina and Twilight Princess is glaring. For everything that's great about TP, the experience ultimately left me empty, because at no point did I feel like any of my progress was earned. Zelda II is nothing like this. If somebody doesn't care for it, they're not "weak" or whatever, they're just a different type of gamer. Maybe they have kids or some sort of social life.
Fellow NA'ers, quit whining. We get plenty of stuff first. Can't wait for this. This game is godly. The graphics, the music, the gameplay, perfect. You don't need any collection, just MM2 + 3, played with the Classic Controller.
Everyone complaining about this not being as good as IV or the new Castlevanias is lame. No multi-directional whipping, no save points, no armor or swords, no swinging, no Mode 7. Hell, you even have to push forwards before you jump or you just jump up and down. But this is the very core of the gameplay that has sustained this franchise for decades. This game is a BLAST! I'd glady spend 500 points on it any time. Can't wait for III.

We ate all the pies.
Re: Defend Your Castle Dated - Screens Also Released
Online play and leader boards. So all the $5 games are gonna pull of what the retail "AAA"s can't. Go WiiWare.

At this point I'd be happy with any memory solution, even if it is limited and overpriced, so I guess "mission accomplished" on that one, Ninty.

Or Puzzle League type games to play competitively. This one looks neat. Somewhere between Endless Ocean and Spore. Getting more psyched for WiiWare.
