Where's the love for OG Metroid?? It's one of my favourite games of all time- not even a nostalgia thing, played it for the first time properly on Wii U. It just invokes this real sense of adventure and dread, the lack of a map and the winding corridors constantly giving you deja vu, no game has ever given me this feeling of hopelessness and desperation. I was just so determined to get through it, seeing those credits roll after all the hard work was just pure ecstasy. Not saying it's not flawed, especially farming for health, but damn. DAMN. I love that game.
smb3, megaman 2 and zelda, absolutely expected to be top 3. first class, s-rank games right there metroid below top ten (as of this comment) is a shocker willow and faxanadu def need more love
@sketchturner 100%, I never understand all the hate comments under articles like this? Like there are so many games coming out at such an alarming rate, you could probably play games every day for multiple lifetimes and never have to pick up a pixel platformer.
I really can't get into roguelikes, never liked them. There seems to be a new one every week at the moment, but it doesn't bother me? Like if anything, I'm just straight up happy for roguelike fans
one of the best games ever made and was super excited about getting this on switch but seriously, i'm not really feeling paying more than about £15 for an 18 year old game that'll take me a couple minutes to set up and emulate. they can keep it.
this is so cool, i remember seeing screens of this as a kid and wondering what happened to it. love the gameboy getting love atm. i hope that some of that kickstarter money goes into some graphical updates tho, as the visuals do look very of the time. i've seen some people pull of some pure wizardry with GBC sprite art on the gbstudio discord recently, also some extra flair like little dialogue mugshot sprites would look nice. wish them the best of luck with this project, can't wait to see it finished.
man this got me all nostalgic. i managed to get a US copy waaay before it came out over here in the UK. was super poor growing up so we didn't have a computer and there was almost no info in magazines at the time so it truly was magical stepping in completely unspoiled.
rip SPYRO the fraligator, god damn those gameboy batteries
absolutely not for the average person, but honestly the aesthetic and weirdness of these games is what pulls you along. if you think they look kinda cool but you're dismissing them from the comments here alone, i'd really recommend checking out thorhighheels vids on youtube for a clearer idea of weather or not they're for you
@nessisonett likely due to GB studio being a thing. It's a really easy to use dev program and there's a super active community around it. I expect we'll see a LOT more gameboy homebrew over the next few years
ConcernedApe is an absolute machine, amazing this update is coming out so quickly for consoles. Usually I'd jump straight into the PC version but stardew feels so at home on switch so I'll wait. This game has saved me from the boredom of so many long hours of travelling around, plus there's nothing like getting wrapped in a duvet at night with a glass of wine sinking a few hours of this in bed.
I actually really struggled with these games as a kid and grew to adore them (well, the first two) as I got older. All the little quirks come together to create something truly strange and interesting, the games aren't that long, I find the "randomness" of levelling up and monster transformations really fun, as no two runs of these games is ever the same. Sometimes the games trip you up and you just gotta roll with the punches. The trippy sci-fi fantasy setting is pretty unique and honestly if you enjoy archaic games I'd def check them out, I think for a small group of individuals, these could be some hidden gems. That said, for the average gamer, I'd say this review is fair. I think the real crime with this collection is the price and lack of features, manual scans and some more display/colour options can't have been that hard to include- I miss the days of packages like sonic mega collection plus...

such a cool idea but damn, so burnt out on that SV aesthetic, shame none of these games have any artistic identity of their own

Re: Review: SNK vs. Capcom: The Match Of The Millennium - The Battle Still Rages, 20 Years On
so happy to see these ngpc games come to switch, the sprite work is so great and it's nice to finally be able to play these games with other people.
hoping we get to see some other stuff like metal slug, or even the more obscure titles like evolution and dark arms
