Seeking a new but familiar-feeling Metroidvania you can play on your Nintendo Switch? Then you might want to keep an eye out for the cute pixel adventure, Moon Raider, arriving on the Switch eShop next month.
You'll take control of Ava, the young daughter of the brilliant-but-aging scientists Dr. Cavor and Selene (former queen of the moon). Selene is powered by moon gems, but her time is running out - so she enlists her daughter to raid the moon and gather as many gems as she can.
Ava will have to survive treacherous catacombs deep beneath the surface of the moon, while taking on a legion of corrupt aliens - which she comes to realise are a much greater threat. As Ava explores 10 "beautiful environments", she will come across hidden upgrades, secret areas and 11 epic boss battles.
There's even a two-player co-op mode to top it off. Below are some screenshots, courtesy of Moon Raider's Steam game page:

Oh yay another “retro” looking Metroidvania, it been a few hours since the last one released, I can’t wait to play this one.
Well, back to Symphony of the Night!
Looks good to me
ah the amount we get of these is great
@Luigisghost669 At this point there is a market over saturation for these kinds of games. Reminds me of all the Minecraft clones and zombie games from a few years back.
@Luigisghost669 It has been a while since I played actually good metroidvania. The latest one is probably Kunai or Ori and the Will of the Wisps. I'll gladly take two or three good metroidvanias a year, but I can definitely skip over the mediocre ones.
Moon Raider seems ok, I do like the pixel art. Metroid influence is also quite strong, even going as far as having its own screw attack.
Everything's Metroidvania these days...
@Beatrice It's a videogame genre. And the last 2D Metroid wasn't so long ago (3DS)
More on the average side, I guess.
No more Metroidvania please. I am sick of them.
The character is cute but it doesn't seem to be doing anything special.
@Dethmunk >tfw RTS fan
Those complaining that there are too many? Then don't buy them. You don't have to buy all metroidvanias. The cream rises to the top. Personally I love the genre. The more the merrier. Hopefully this is a good one.
I did like the music!
This does look very familiar but I’ll keep my eye on it. I did like the music and do love me some classic Metroid.
@sanderev Miiissing the point there buddy.
I personally can't get enough Metroidvanias. What I can get enough of though, is cutesy, small scale pixel art. It's not bad, but it's just so also-ran.
Meh, I'll probably get it on sale anyway.
I'll get it! The color palette is screaming Metroid Fusion.
Really appreciate developers or whomever who take the time to make a good trailer like this: They timed the music to some of the explosions/hits. (The low boom every few seconds.)
That's a great little detail not everyone does. Gives me hope this game will be above average.
Looks good to me! If they can get the world design correct (the thing most Metroidvanias struggle with), then I'll pick it up
I love this genere, keeper coming!
This looks pretty good to me
@Luigisghost669 this but unironically
I'm into it lol. One of the joys of having damaged my memory with years of substance use is that I never get tired of any genre in particular. I could play a thousand pixel art metroidvanias and still enjoy them
Doesn't seem bad but I am not starved for Metroidvanias. Usually I don't even get satisfied, but after I get through Blasphemous, I think I'll go back to RPGs for a while. Or at least until I hear more about The Last Faith (and if it's coming to Switch).
If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. People who are sick of pixels, indies, metroidvanias... just don't post on this stuff. Leave the discussion for those of us who think this looks cool.

@sketchturner 100%, I never understand all the hate comments under articles like this? Like there are so many games coming out at such an alarming rate, you could probably play games every day for multiple lifetimes and never have to pick up a pixel platformer.
I really can't get into roguelikes, never liked them. There seems to be a new one every week at the moment, but it doesn't bother me? Like if anything, I'm just straight up happy for roguelike fans
Look nice, glad it isn't one of those 8-Bit inspired version.
