Re: Animal Crossing 3DS Looks Suitably Relaxing

The option to swim looks interesting to me. I wonder how far out you can go. Maybe there will be islands that you can swim to. Overall, this game is looking like it'll have enough new additions over the Wii version for me to buy it. I love the ability to change your shorts now. The 3D effect of the game as seen on the 3DS E3 trailer is great as well.

Re: GameCube to See New Downloadable Life on Wii U

I figured they would add GC games to virtual console eventually. That's too much easy money to pass up. That's why they have extended virtual console to the 3DS now as well. They wouldn't have done that if the virtual console service on the Wii hadn't have been profitable. Hopefully we'll eventually see Saturn and Dreamcast games too. I already have a 1TB external hard drive I can hook up to the Wii U so I'll be able to download a lot of games. My prediction for GC VC prices is somewhere between $10 and $15.

Re: Wii U Won't Support Blu-ray or DVD Playback

At first I didn't like this news but then I thought more about what Iwata is saying. I already have two DVD players at my house, so realistically, would I have used the Wii U's DVD playback feature? Probably not. And I definitely don't need to. Everybody I know has at least one DVD player in their house already, usually two, one on the computer and one on the TV. I think far more people will benefit from the Wii U price savings from not having DVD playback than those that don't have a DVD player on their TV and would benefit from a Wii U with DVD playback. I just wonder how much extra it would have cost to add these features.

Re: Wii U Uses 25GB Discs and Lacks GameCube Compatibility

I do think we'll see GameCube virtual console games and probably within a few years. I think the fact that Nintendo decided to start a virtual console service for the 3DS shows that virtual console has been successful for them over the years and it's profitable to keep doing it. I think this will naturally continue on to GameCube games and hopefully Saturn and Dreamcast games as well, which would be really cool. Also, it seems like the Wii U will be powerful enough to emulate them without any slowdown and with external hard drive support now, we can easily store the GameCube games as they went up to 1.4GB. Hopefully they'll be $10 like N64 virtual console games.

External hard drive storage is the way to go. This will preclude the need to have different versions of Wii U and allow people to add as much storage as they want.

Also, with the apparent lack of GameCube compatibility, it makes you wonder if they'll start making GameCube Virtual Console games. With USB hard drive support now, the big size of the GameCube files won't be an issue like it would be if you could only put them on SD cards. My 1TB external hard drive is ready.

Re: Reaction: Nintendo's Complete Press Release

I'm excited for the new technology. I do think it will create a fun, new gaming experience. There are a lot of possibilities with this. Now I'm hoping we see plenty of great games that take advantage of it fully, from both Nintendo and third parties. The HD graphics look great as well.

I'm also glad to see the full Wii backwards compatibility for both games and devices. Anybody heard anything on Gamecube backwards compatibility on Wii U?

Re: Are We Nearing the End of Consoles? Nintendo Thinks Not

Playing games on cell phones is simply a much more limited gaming experience than with consoles on big TVs with separate controllers.

People always make dumb predictions whenever new technology comes out. When VHS movies came out about thirty years ago many "experts" predicted it would logically lead to the end of movie theaters since people could just watch the films in their houses. What these experts didn't factor in was that they were different experiences where one didn't completely replace the other. Screen size, sound as well as the social atmosphere of theaters was something that watching movies at home didn't replace.
