Played the demo of this and I loved the combat but was instantly out when the story was.. basically nothing. I get that folks like mechanics these days, but my gosh, what has happened to the writers? These games are all so poorly written and the story they setup from the beginning are all so dull. I just Beat Xenoblade 3 and WHAT a story that was! But... these last few SquareEnix games are just.. very boring.
And yes I'm talking about Triangle Strategy, Octopath Traveler, and even the demo of Harvestella. They want us to invest 60 dollars and spend 50+ hours but.. where is the story? I can't support games that just have "cool battles" anymore.
@Doctor-Moo Exactly. I love the old SquareSoft, but lately these games have been sorely lacking in story quality. Yeah for folks that like cool mechanics, some games are great, but I prefer a great story and so many games lately have NO story that compels me to play.
Part of me feels like it's a bit too much and the story of the new SquareEnix games suffer in this rush to push games out the door.
Personally, I haven't truly loved and felt moved from any of the storytelling that SquareEnix has dropped recently. DQ11 is an exception, but DioField(demo), Octopath, Triangle Strategy, and Harvestella(demo) haven't exactly knocked my socks off in terms of compelling story that makes you excited to play/buy the game. Bravely Default was good, but Bravely Second was mid, and Bravely Default II was.. so dry storywise.
I just hope Square has a revival in story.
Think back to Final Fantasy 7/8/9/10. Each game was different but each story was original and compelling. Where did those writers go?
I’m so glad someone else feels the same as my wife and I do about Baby Park. We LOVE Baby Park and play it back to back often, but after the four times we always wish there was a figure 8 version of it, or like ten courses that were simple tiny courses that were a chaos intensive fight the entire way.
I’m also a fan of the big all in one race like Wario, but gosh I need more versions of Baby Park.
I feel like I've been waiting on this game for literally years. Since it was supposed to hit 3DS. Finally coming to the Switch and I've been keeping myself from playing it on Steam for SO LONG. Finally this weekend!
@sanderev Kinda wondering why the EZ Flash Omega cart is showing up in that part of the screenshot too. That's the flash cart I currently use/own with my GBA Micro, haha.
@victordamazio On the contrary, since this service essentially lives in the cloud, I feel like it could easily make the skip to another console. And I believe you're right, maybe this will pay off someday.. but with licensing being a huge issue, and maybe of the popular games being revamped from the company that originally made them, Nintendo isn't left with ALL of the big games. Think about Final Fantasy games that are being remastered at Square in -house. If they allowed any to be released to the service, it would instantly kill the work and marketing they did. So, various other games in that vein won't be coming I believe. MegaMan, SquareEnix games, I bet even Castlevania won't come to the Advance portion.
Every time people freak out in "excitement" about a new emulator coming to the Switch I always go back into my old man ways of saying that no one ACTUALLY plays these games. They just enjoy making a big deal about the lack of them until they're actually on the console, and then they aren't played. So, I'm happy to see this eventually happen, but I'll probably open once or twice a year.
People in the comments bagging on the game and then admitting that they've never played the series. Well, you can't bag on something if you know nothing about it.
I've played every game in the series and absolutely love the gameplay and characters, but cannot stand the awfully hard to follow story. I'm hoping that this game will focus the story into one moment instead of focusing on traveling around to Disney movie worlds and making us place a sped-up version of the movie. Spending a lot of time in Tokyo then going to another place could be interesting. Disney could come to the "real world." Let's not forget that Star Wars is under Disney now, so it could get wild. Keyblade Lightsaber? Yes please.
@Fizza As someone that's played every single KH game, the "story" led to this moment in the last game, KH3. It seemed like you were going to the world of the Final Fantasy characters that were "stuck" in the Disney world. You kinda have to know the game in order to know what it happening. I would assume Disney characters in turn appear in THIS world instead of us coming to their world, which would be a nice flip IMO. I love the series but was tired of going to Disney worlds and essentially playing a snippet of each movie. Instead, I want a focused story where I get to use Disney characters that give me new tricks in battle.
Played this game on Apple Arcade and right away I knew it was a trash game. I know it had a lot of hype, but the 4/10 is true. I don't believe the game could be saved with updates. It's.. definitely not worth your time. If anything, try a Apple Arcade trial(if you can) and see for yourself before buying. Awful game, and great review.
This is a review that I might have to disagree with slightly. The story is quite boring and the talking can go on more than it needs to for some, but the gameplay/combat/matches are actually really fun. Where I would be tired of the story, the matches would bring my interest right back. I finished the game in about 13-15 ish hours for the folks interested. The ending is a little padded, but it was okay for what it was. Definitely a game I would suggest picking up on sale.
Can you all imagine the amount of work that goes into modeling pokemon for every game? also coming up with NEW models for each new pokemon to be introduced? I get it, we all want refreshed things, but I went into this assuming that a lot of models would be reused. The same goes for Pokemon Go and Let's Go.
This is the first sort of "negative" review about the game I've seen. I ordered the Vita version, but definitely loved reading the review and seeing someone with another point of view. I personally cannot wait to play the game, and the dev has said he's working on the first update for the game.
