@HammerKirby True, but on some games the difference is very strong, not minor (on other games it isn't noticeable, as you mention). Still, can't call it faultless.
@impurekind Are you sure that video was recorded from a nes mini? That video is from August. Anyway, for a more technical discussion there's this on nesdev: http://forums.nesdev.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=15073
@impurekind That one has the pitch sounding way better. The whole sound of the thing is feeling low-fi though, as if it was compressed. I honestly don't know what's going on anymore. Maybe it reacts differently to different tv sets?
@impurekind Every NES mini video has the noise channel (and just the noise channel) sound very off. These videos are brand new, so I'm sure they are faithful and are recorded in great quality. As for how it should sound, I'm not the only one who's noticed (although I know double dragon 2 by heart, I'm 36 and I've been playing it non-stop since launch, really). If you look at other double dragon 2 videos or load up the game on any emulator you'll hear it like it should sound. That made me pay closer attention to the other games and yeah, all of the noise channel emulation is off. I've never heard the noise channel get so badly emulated like this, it's so weird.
@impurekind This video sounds perfectly how it should sound: https://youtu.be/HSOCiRmg3KM?t=1m09s (focus on the punches and kicks, when they land, as those are examples of the noise channel being used).
@impurekind It is sounding nothing like the original game. But if you don't notice it, there's no harm done, I guess. I'm just baffled that nobody cares. I just thought I should point it out because I don't see anybody mentioning it, but yeah, the NES has tipically 4 to 6 sound channels, and the noise channel is left for percussion and its emulation is very, very wrong in the NES mini. So, if it is important to you, now you're informed
@impurekind Yeah I was surprised only a few people noticed it. Here's an example of it: https://youtu.be/dgpBhguhGuk?t=2m0s The noise channel emulation is completely wrong. I think all games are affected by this, but you're familiar with double dragon 2 you'll notice right away the sound of the kicks and punches are way off when they hit. I think the percussion in super mario bros 3 is noticeable too.
I just pre-ordered mine. I don't care about it having HDMI output because playing retro games on hdtvs will always be better on emulation. For the real deal, I use my CRT tv. About the sound quality we'll have to wait and see, but if it isn't great it'll kill it for me, but still I think tectoy listened to their fans and I am giving them my support. They are heading the direction I want them to.

The emulation is not faultless, the sound has problems.

Re: Video: We Compare the NES Mini Emulation With the Wii U Virtual Console
It may be visually superior but the sound emulation is garbage.
Re: Takashi Tezuka Wanted Super Mario Bros. 3 To Use An Overhead Perspective
I don't think he meant isometric per se. I think he meant something more like this:

Look at this photoshop I did: (I only moved mario a bit)

I was, but the sound emulation is all wrong, so no.
