Somewhere along the line, there was a huge failure of foresight on whether this would be something that would interest people, much less compell them to put money down. I am a massive LOTR fan, have been since I was a teen in the 90s, and continue to be. I loved the Shadow Of games and also the PS2 era titles that came out in the style of the movies. But this..I don't know. This has never appealed to me or done anything to make me want to play it.
@MrGrim I'm not sure what's going on here, because I have experienced literally zero input lag.
I'm honestly wondering if there's something wrong with their setup. Do they have their TV on game mode when they're doing this calculation? I literally feel NO lag and have experienced great fun with this collection.
@YANDMAN Interestingly I haven't experienced any input lag at all. In fact, I felt like it was one of the best feeling shmup collections I've played on the Switch...
Is it possible the reviewer didn't have their game mode on?
This review's gripes with the narrative just seemed really heavy-handed. The characters' seriousness about what's going on with the lives of their virtual avatars seemed over the top to you?
That's how people are STILL today when it comes to their virtual/social media identities or personas. People take this stuff pretty seriously, so it feels to me like actually it's this writer's perspective on these matters that is a bit off base.
@Bizaster The first two ToCS games are localized, they're just not on Switch. I wouldn't hold your breath for those coming West. I recommend playing them on PC or PS4, they are WORTH IT. To be quite honest the games especially the first game are a little slow to start because there is LOTS of world building and character introduction, but by the time you get to ToCS 4, you'll be glad you have them under your belt.
Will the only be offering their own content? Will they be carrying third-party content? Will players be able to use specific controllers? Will it be mostly story-based "choose your own adventure" type games like that Minecraft one? Or will it be actual videogames streamed like is done on Stadia and PS Now?
@jcboyer515 Well, first of all, I didn't say it took 40 hours for things to get interesting.
I mean, it takes about that long for the scope of the grander story to begin to emerge. Those first 40 hours (which was an estimate and not a hard figure, by the way) are mostly there to ensure that players are familiar with who each of the major characters are and what their life perspectives are. That context is important to truly set the stage for the following games to have their impact.
I'm blown away at so many people saying Trails of Cold Steel 1 is generic. There is unparalleled depth in these games. The characters are generic at first, but wow, you have to keep going and let the depth play out. Even getting 40 hours into the first game is not enough to really get the story rolling.
Don't base it on some boob fall at the beginning of the game. That actually sets up a relationship between two characters that builds develops and matures over hundreds of hours.
If this is the biggest impact the story has had in you, I really think you need to play longer before dismissing it.
This is honestly my most treasured JRPG series, and I've been playing since the 8 bit days.
@Magician Me too. Exact same. I love my Switch but the quality control was just unacceptable on these. I didn't even use if excessively, way too severe for just normal wear and tear.

Re: Review: Radiant Silvergun - A Superb Shmup That's Still One Of The Very Best
@Zanzox One run in this game averages about an hour.
Actually a pretty long start-to-finish for a shoot-em-up. Besides, this type of game is meant to be played and replayed continuously.

The thing is, there are so many questions!

@Alucard83 A game can be amazing and niche at the same time.
Re: Class Action Lawsuit Officially Filed Against Nintendo For Switch Joy-Con "Drifting" Issues
@JugOfVoodoo Would explain why I never had a drift issue after years of heavy use on my 3DS, Wii U, or other consoles like PS4 or Xbox.
