@Morph I didn't even know they had an online store... I mean I knew they were selling refurbished 3DS's and that sort of thing but they have a full store? with merchandise and stuff like that wow I might check this out
Look are Nintendo in a bad spot, NO! they have money to burn and a lot of it.
Is the Wii U in a bad spot, Yes, let's not sugar coat it, the Wii U up to this point has been a colossal failure however that will change before the end of the year.
If anyone has seen the new 3D World TV commercial for north america it focuses not only on the game but constantly says "Upgrade to Wii U", "A New Console from Nintendo", Yes it took far longer than it should have but this commercial which is in the style of the NSMB Wii commercial focus is on family and "Togetherness" will sell consoles, because people love Nintendo even those who bash it enjoy their games.
@rjejr The other thing is sites like IGN, Kotaku, Gamespot, Cnet etc... all take themselves WAY TOO SERIOUSLY, the online gaming community by which mean people like you and I who browse these sites, read the articles and know the terminology is a very small part of the overall gaming populace, most families this christmas will walk into a store see SM 3D World, and a nice shiny Wii U bundled with multiple games and be like "Oh I like Mario and this seems like a nice value" and buy it, They don't give a crud about anything that so called "game journalist" sites report...
I put "game journalist" in quotes because I don't think there are many legitimate ones in the entire industry, bias runs through gaming media like blood through a body
@Hyperstar96 It has been explained time and time again in this very comments section as to why this was taken down and was directly in violation of copyright laws, It wasn't a "new" game which reused assets it was the SAME game (Not to mention the whole donation button meaning that yes he was in fact profiting from the game) that Nintendo is still selling on the Virtual Console,
Taking great ideas is fine, if he wanted to make a 2D side scroller inspired by Mario and do what he did then that would be AMAZING but he can't take Mario and do it because he simply doesn't own the rights
@cookiex you'll give away Nintendos secret plot to take over the world but seriously between the 3DS, 3DS XL and now the 2DS how many different versions including the themed ones have been released it has to be at least two dozen now
Holy snicker doodles... that's insane the 3DS has an install base of around 40 million so 10% of 3DS owners bought this game at launch, not to mention all the people who bought a 3 or 2DS along with this game, talk about a success and well deserved at that by far the BEST game in the series
If Miyamoto is losing his touch then how is he still putting out better games than almost anyone else in the industry? How was Pikmin 3 the best game in the franchise and he's also working on a new IP?
EA on the other hand just got caught publishing LITERALLY the EXACT SAME GAME with a slight roster change on the 3DS and Vita.
If anyone is falling down on the job it's EA not Miyamoto or Nintendo
12 million in only 3 years.... It needs to be said that's impressive by any standards and personally I think the 3DS is going to surpass the DS family before all is said and done, I mean 3DS has yet to get a Pokemon game not to mention it has the MH series which is something the DS never had.
PSP and GBA will likely be smashed by the end of 2014 if this pace keeps up.
As for Wii U, It'll be fine the 3DS has seen this sucess almost entirely due to first party titles as 3rd parties are still for the most part neglecting the platform sure Atlus, Sega and Capcom support it but that's about it
@Ecto-1 They are a lot simpler than Gen 5's which while I liked some of the more wacky designs of generation 5, I kinda like them getting back to simple and clean looking designs like this and a lot of the others shown
I think this creature is more of a threat to dragons then fairy type is...
Refrigerate is perhaps one of the coolest (Pun intendend) abilities to date, I mean if I understand it correctly if this pokemon can learn Strength or Hyper beam or other powerful Normal type moves it not only powers them up but converts them to ice type, If Same Type Attack Bonus factors into this then that's insane.... best Ice type ever.
@DiSTANToblivion The Vita's problem is that it offers "home console experiences" but I have my PS3 / Wii U for that, I want my handheld to offer me different, unique experiences not cross buy or PS3 games that get ported to it.
The Vita to this day lacks a "killer app" unless you enjoy FPS's in which case Killzone is one title but that's it... it needs more than that and the only people to blame are Sony they tried to make a portable home console and failed miserably.
Where as Nintendo knew that people who play handheld games are looking for games which can be played in short segments of 20 - 30 minutes while on a bus or a train which is what titles like 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, Fire Emblem Awakening and Kid Icarus offer.
@idork99 They had a falling out with Capcom I believe and Nintendo came in and bought the exclusive rights to Monster Hunter until at least 2015 and with the success it has seen on the 3DS and Wii / Wii U I can see Capcom sticking with Nintendo for this franchise.
So yeah Sony screwed up royally... with regards to Monster Hunter
a quarter of a million 3DS's sold in a week... ya know who is worrying themselves to craziness right now Sony's handheld department for being foolish enough to let Monster Hunter slip away from them...
I see Nintendo maybe keeping this exclusivity for a while
@RupeeClock easy, 3D platformers don't do well with online, any lag at all renders it basically unplayable, their is a Mod for SM 64 which allows for online multiplayer and it's just unplayable the lag makes everything a million times harder than it needs to be... The online infrastructure is simply not their for ANYONE to make a 3D platformer with functioning online
@Peach64 So in order for someone to like something it needs to sell well?
What exactly is wrong with Nintendo doing something like this? Clearly it's not meant to be a "system seller" but it IS meant to be a nice little time passer for people who do get the console.
Seriously judging everything by "IS IT A SYSTEM SELLER" is dumb because some of the best games of all time sold like crap, I'm not saying this is some crowning achievement but it is something that I will gladly take advantage of to get Tennis and Bowling in HD with online.
@DarkCoolEdge I mean 10 dollars per game isn't that bad per say I mean their will most likely be a bundle of all 5 (I think it was 5, baseball, golf, bowling, tennis and boxing?) for like 25 dollars in which case that'd still be more expensive for me since the only two I want to play again is tennis and bowling.
@Furealz Meh, most people are only going to get Tennis and Bowling, at least those are the two I'll be getting right away I mean it was that or they'd be charging 30 or so dollars for all of them though I think they will have some sort of bundle option like they did with the streetpass games for 3DS
@johnvboy Don't even bother... this is what 1 of the 2 "casual" games Nintendo are releasing this year the other being Mario and Sonic at the Olympics, literally EVERY other title they are releasing is for the core Nintendo audience I find that "gamers" tend to forget that their are markets outside of us, their is a massive market for fitness games and party games etc...
@Furealz technically free forever if you purchase the Activity Meter for 20 dollars so this is very surprising and this is how you push a digital version xD
A) the day pass is a nice option if you want to test the game out or if you only need it for one night if your watching someones kids etc...
B) This is just all around something I've wanted for a VERY long time now, Tennis and bowling were actually really fun and I know some of that will be lost over online but so long as local play is still an option them rereleasing a game in this fashion is something I can get behind.
Only thing I find strange is that it isn't Wii Sports Resort that is getting this but instead the original
@Dambuster Oh no Nintendo are releasing a game that is going to sell well but I don't like it... NERD RAGE seriously grow up their is a market for these games and as a company Nintendo would be dumb not to capitalize on it... The original Wii Fit games sold MILLIONS and this one especially with this sort of offer is bound to do the same.
Their is more than the "core" gaming audience, These titles have a place and considering the amount of development time that went into this it is hardly shovel ware as I don't believe you know what that term actually means. It refers to games with minimal effort and quality put out simply to try and cash in on a franchise or IP.
@DavidHolliss Digitally the software is free from November 1 - January 31, If you buy the activity meter (FAR more than a stepper) for 20 dollars you can synch it with the free version of the game and it goes from being a "month long trial" to total ownership of the full copy forever
This is an awesome deal, I have the balance board so being able to get a FULL game for 20 dollars + a nifty little fitness accessory has made a game that I was going to get someday if I felt like trying to get in shape into a game that I am getting day one.
@Nintenjoe64 That's when you kinda "Star" the communities that you frequent or own the games that's what I do at least so they show up under "favorite" communities and I haven't run into your issue since they are all right their and I don't need to so sift through the hundreds of shovel ware title communities
@Blastoise As they should I mean yes the Murphy levels suck single player but that's true in all versions of the game, Ubisoft made it no secret those levels are meant to be played CO-OP now while that's not always possible I'd prefer the touch integration over some rhythmic QTE section like the PS3 and 360 versions have.
@goldenlander It's been a good thing since the day it was announced the only people complaining about it were either too ignorant to realize the facts of the situations (Sega not wanting to bankroll the game and nobody else was willing to foot the bill) or they simply wanted a reason to complain without ever being fans of the series and if TODAY people are still complaining about it then they are irrational fanboys who need to shut up, It's clear from the footage shown of the title that Nintendo hasn't "neutered" the game as so many had feared they would. It's still the same over the top, sexy action game that Bayonetta was now running at 60 FPS with a new story and bigger fights
@Sonic128 @DarkCoolEdge Star Fox yes, Metroid no... Look at what Platinum games excel at making and then look at what Metroid traditionally is, slow paced, atmospheric exploration based gameplay... While I believe Platinum games could nail the atmosphere and the exploration I don't think they would be able to pace the game properly. That's not a knock against the developer at ALL I just think that the style of game they make score attack, fast paced, high difficulty is suited for a Star Fox game but shouldn't be anywhere even close to Metroid IMO.
He's right honestly between the DDP and the day one digital and in some cases games launching earlier on the E-Shop than physical (wind waker) they are getting it right just need to fix their account system.

Look at the Uncharted series great games I own all 3 on PS3 but... if I were to play through them one after the other I'd be bored out of my mind it's the exact same gameplay over and over again.
Nintendo takes a different approach if I sat down and played all 4 of the main 3D mario games, 64, Sunshine, Galaxy 1 and 2 each has enough innovation and freshness to feel different to me and thus I'm less likely to get bored.
@thesilverbrick The point of Forsaken Fortress and why I enjoy it so much is for the second visit when you go there and these enemies that you were terrified of before are now getting slaughtered.

For the best far too many pirated games for the DS and there really is no possible way to justify it because gaming is a want not a need. If you can't afford a game you don't get to play it.
IMO home brew is fine but this is an example of a the few people using these cards for something that was generally harmless having their fun ruined by the majority of people who used these cards to get free games which is ILLEGAL... Nintendo has done the right thing by going after these companies and I honestly hope that it doesn't stop here there are plenty more sites that Nintendo should and probably will go after
@Pachterkid You just called someone out for making an assumption by making an assumption yourself.
