I dunno I've always detested things like discord, just because they're kind of sub par as a chat thing as a company. It also doesn't solve the issue of communication with your team which is ultimately what we need here. If you auto mute them then yer no worse off, team organization wise, than you were before.
Lacking it is never a good thing, just as there's no excuse to not have it. People like you, and I more often than not admittedly, just need an option to enable or disable voice chat. It's that simple. I wouldn't mind paying for a service that had issues i'd use, or was at least better than what the last few systems gave me for free with no noticeable improvements in quality, convenience, or much of anything outside NES games.
@frogopus The biggest issue is that we need options. They already have "robust" parental controls, I don't see why a parent can't spend the extra time to make sure their child is playing games safely. So that, yanno, us manchildren that don't have our feelings hurt can enjoy a game with our friends without it being ruined for us.
I take the time to make sure the kids in my family are safe in both online browsing video games, if other caregivers can't that is their problem.
@TheLightSpirit The Cyber Sleuth games were always playable on the movie, being Vita games. Which I would argue are less cumbersome handhelds than the current Switch(give us that hardware revision already, dangit).
@JellyPop I agree they have other issues, but I don't think the negative ones are being more vocal. I've seen just as many people defending Every decision this game has behind it because it's more pokemon.
I like that people are outraged, but it's far too late and they're not even being outraged in a productive manner. They don't care what we want, they never have, and people just need to accept that. This isn't about making a good game, it's about money being made in comparison to effort and people over the age of 14 haven't been the target audience in a long time.
I disagree. In the sense it's far easier to assume people that love anything, regardless of content, or just don't care are the minority because most people realize their input doesn't matter.
I think it's nice, even if meaningless, people are finally taking outrage over something.
@Dayton311 The problem I have with the Switch, as an owner, is that I game on the go a lot and the Switch is...very limited in that capacity. I'd rather simple games on a handheld rather than something i'm stranded at home playing.
A new handheld would be the best option but we all know they're gonna force handheld players into home gamers to push the Switch.
@renaryuugufan92 I dunno, just not seeing it. It's overly expensive, has varying battery life, and it's design isn't very friendly to long trips. Its neither cheap nor convenient, and those things that make or break a good handheld.
@MetaRyan Theres a niche outside a children's machine as well, and it would be that if the dedicated handheld gamers. I'm 29 and what you suggested for kids already sounds much better than anything the Switch offers me.
@cripesdude The problem is that this isn't the age of hybrids, not yet anyway. The Switch is clunky, expensive, and even more expensive if you happen to lose those controllers. It's more suited for local play, rather than cross country/on the road.
The Switch, as it is, does not play the handheld game well at all. As a console this is revolutionary, but killing handhelds over what amounts to a prototype is a horrible idea. I love handhelds and I love NIntendo, don't get me wrong, but if the Switch is all they have to offer me on the go then I'm afraid this is where we part ways(and I doubt I'm alone in this sentiment).
@renaryuugufan92 I disagree. As a handheld gamer for about a decade now, I just don't have time for home consoles anymore. They all collect dust these days. I want gaming on the go thats cheap(er), and convenient. The Switch doesn't look to be any of these, let alone the controllers and joysticks you could potentially lose being very expensive.
The Switch isn't checking any of the boxes a good Nintendo handheld should, and for that reason I'm probably going to pass on it. A 3ds successor would give people like me something to support the company with rather than outright losing sales.
@Danpal65 As somebody who has no time for a home console, and has been dedicated handheld since the DS era, the Switch has nothing to offer me. It's not convenient in design or function, it's 100usd more than Im comfortable paying for a handheld, and the accessories you could lose on the road are very expensive.
I wan't an actual handheld I can take with me on long trips, and a successor unit would fill their lack of a real handheld.
@dronesplitter Id ideally like a 3DS successor, mostly because the Switch didn't hit the notes a handheld gamer wants out of a device(even before these rumors/specs came out).
The idea that this may replace their handheld line is truly troubling and might honestly drive me away from the company.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE At this point it's best to hope this doesn't replace real handhelds, but that line is at least been their lifeblood these last few years.
Between wonky design choices, lack of convenience, and portability issues this not bode well for the Switch's life as a handheld, and further hammers home the point that the 3DS is going to need a real successor.
@KirbyTheVampire The problem I have with the Switch is that it's a subpar handheld. I don't care about graphics, never have, and the latest spec reveal of the Switch shows that it's seriously gimped as a handheld in that sense.
Those things aside? Handheld gaming is about portability and convenience rather than some measure of power. The Switch itself is wonky, not being convenient for some bags/any pockets, has parts you can lose on a trip, and in general is not designed for longs being more of a social console you can carry around town to yoru friends house. This idea is fine. I like this.
But to say it replaces the actual handheld experience is false, and I hope we get a 3DS successor down the line because this just wont fill the void.
@lifepsychedelic I just hope it doesn't kill traditional handhelds. I'd buy a dozen more 3DS if it means getting something that isn't the Switch later down the line.
@mechamen8 This will honestly be the first time since the Gameboy/NES era I won't own a current gen Nintendo device, and nobody around here especially wants one either. Nintendo needs a strong sales pith after the WiiU, yes, but they also seem to be forgetting that the 3DS has been keeping them alive in these last few years. To turn their back on these fans suddenly and replace a respected, trusted, handheld line with a hybird that looks more dubious by the day is a poor idea, and I hope down the line we get another handheld to at least play this gen safe.
It's less about one thing, like not fitting in a pocket, but more a combination of parts you can lose(to make it fit in your pocket, docked parts on long trips are a no-no usually), having to purchase extra things for protection of your screens/a case, and a $25 dollar charger on top of that for long trips.
You add up these issues and you find the Switch to be more a home console you can carry around, rather than a true handheld experience which is, traditionally, based on convenience and portability. I like Mario and Zelda and all, a hardcore fanboy even, but it would be easier to bring a phone or my old DS/3DS at this point.
@dres I had problems with them only bringing over the XL N3DS model for this exact reason. The XL sold better because it never got a chance in the American market until far later, and it's a shame we got the model with the sill wonky stretched resolution instead of the one that was fully customizable. You are right about the old gameboy being suffering, but the pocket(As it name suggests) was great to fit in your pocket and I still use it from time to time. You also brought up another prime problem: losable, removable, parts. Really the entire thing is just the opposite as to what handheld gaming is about, you may not understand as a console guy from the sounds of it, but this is about convenience and portability and less about graphics and power(which from leaked specs, the Switch will be very short on in handheld mode). The thing about the Switch is that every, very clear, failing it has it countered with "Well you can counteract this if you buy this" but the fact remains that Nintendo handhelds prior did not have this clear design flaw. Not only is it making the mistake of the XL, but now it has (required) parts you can lose to make it portable, and you probably have to invest another 20-50 dollars in a charger/case/screen protector due to lackluster design choices. This is a novel idea as a console you can carry around town/play with friends, but not as a handheld.
I just hope we get a real handheld after this, because the Switch isn't going to fill that void in any capacity.
@Gorlokk The most worrisome is that this "hybrid" will end up replacing their handheld line. As a console you can carry to your friends house, or across town, this is a pretty ok idea.
However, just based on it's size and functions this will never really replace the GB/DS/3DS lines and it doesn't accomplish what any of those do well. I don't need a console, I'm rarely home, and the Switch just isn't as friendly for people like me who travel. The DS lines fit in your pocket, had a charger that could go with you, and were fairly durable. Would be a shame if NIntendo lost my money because they backed out of the handheld game, which kept that alive during the WiiU debacle...
@XxYoshiGamerxX Except the Switch is, at best, only semi portable. Being able to carry your system across town or something is great but this is in no way conceived for travel play, like the GB/DS/3DS lines.
I hope we get a true handheld after this, because this is kind of a mess in terms of convenience and portability.
@iamserious Meanwhile I fear this will kill traditional handhelds(because lets face it, a portable console is an ok idea but it's not exactly up to par with the other handhelds convenience wise). After the flop that was the WiiU, the 3DS/handheld line is what kept them in the running. This is not, and will never be, a suitable replacement and while their console sales will probably go up they'll probably lose the handheld market over this. It just doesn't check the notes for convenience.
The Switch just looks to be another exercise in Nintendo not only refusing to get with the times, but turning their back on the people who have supported them for the last few years(or in my case, 20 years).
@Rafx I just want something thats actually portable and not a semi huge tablet thats a pain in the but to carry around. Hope we get a real handheld a little after the Switch, because this just wont fill the role that the 3DS will be leaving open.
@TruenoGT The interface managed to actually get worse. Now you have to enter the plaza for any, and all, communications, and doesn't give you an option to connect with friends. You have to wait for them to show up in said plaza. Combined with removing four battle types and the national dex, this is the first pokemon game I refunded within 48 hours.
@Bolt_Strike It just makes me sad that Nintendo is cannibalizing their strong handheld market(yes the 3DS was competitive even with mobile) to take the basic handheld things and make them into a gimmick for their home console. I want something I can carry with me long distances, and the Switch just wont fill this role for me. For the first time since the NES I'm probably going to go a while without a current gen Nintendo product in my house.
@cleveland124 I'm inclined to agree. The worst part is that I rarely have time for a home console when not with friends, and losing a true handheld will kind of screw me over this gen. It's kind of sad if the 3DS doesn't get a successor.
@GravyThief Sadly this is probably correct, which is a shame as I'd like an actual carry with me anywhere handheld. The switch is more a block party/campus kind of social machine rather than a true handheld, and it makes me sad that people like me(who have no time for consoles) will fall through the cracks this gen if the 3DS doesn't get a successor unit.
it should be noted that only a very vocal minority are complaining about this, and that as hackers score highly in the competition their scores are soon removed.

@amstans Its hard to brick a console that doesn't even connect to the net to update, and it's fully possible to unbrick the 3DS these days.
I fully support Nintendo and have never pirated, but most pirates never intended to buy the game in the first place and play it as an afterthought. Nintendo is shooting themselves in the foot with things like a region lock because it only encourage people who enjoy foreign games to take the cheap $80 dollar option to play import games (Rather than the the nearly $300+).
@Silver_August You just seem to be mixing up "competitive" play with "smogon" play. That's all. They sometimes overlap, but the former is not the latter.
