I think that once developers realize what the scope of what can actually be done with HD rumble is, we will see it implemented in all types of ways. The blast of a shotgun going off, the buzzing reel of a fishing rod, the subtle vibrating of a sports car steering wheel while at high speeds, the receiving of a handoff in Madden football, the Lazer gun of a spaceship in a futuristic shooter, a Smash attack in SSB... Heck, think about what it would feel like to shoot from Samus' arm cannon; actually being able to feel the differences between the plasma beam and a middle... I'm sold. #HD_Rumble
PS: none of these hypothetical games are actually in development, being worked on, conceptualized, -nothing. These are wild rumors. Normally I pay tribute to the fanfare and craze of an idea like this- but this one is silly.
I'm not trying to take anything away from how awesome Luigi is at winning stuff while doing nothing, but on Onnet against pikachu and on Poke'Floats against Samus the control stick is used to prevent Luigi from falling to his death and flying off the screen, respectively.
I agree with everything said in this superbly written article.
I'd only add a perspective I've just attained from reading it, where Nintendo, like you stated here, would be at a full count when it went to bat against Microsoft and Sony's new consoles, touting 'the next era' in gaming, (etc.), and would run the risk of a no-doubt great presentation being over shadowed by the sparkly eyed wonderment of the freshly unveiled hardware of it's competitors.
I feel Nintendo has made the right move in allowing them to duke it out on stage while they sit cloaked on the sidelines, away from the proverbial blood splatter and crazed media zeal that is guaranteed to ensue surrounding those presentations.
It also is becoming more clear to me where Nintendo originally planned to take up residence in this next console race.
They now seem poised to lock down and fill the generational gap it's HD predecessors have hastily left behind while making their respective hyper jumps into the 'futures of gaming'. However, that same 'future' seems overly specialized and under-catered towards an unexpecting, and economically hindered public that may not be ready to shell out a significant amount of coin for.
Their approach towards this years E3 fanfare gives me a new confidence in the sustainability and untapped appeal of the Wii U, and reiterates my already high regard toward the 3DS and it's potential for the future.
Go get'em Nintendo. You've written every single rule and lead every single movement in the world of gaming. No sense in stopping that stride now.
We as a consumerists' industry need to revisit our gaming days of yore in an attemp to address and inspire against these notions. Games like Lighthouse, Out Of This World, Apollo 18, and that PC game from the late Lucas Arts called "Day of the dead", or something to that affect, all did a marvelous job at pitting us up against very adult themes, with a bit of fantastical rhetoric peppered in, so as to even out the imaaginations of even the most disciplined minds. The industry is at its crux, and should it fall to the side of quantity over quality, -mass production over idea and simplicity- our industry would be in trouble, and ultimately dead in the water as we know it. The time is nigh developers!! Create! Create! Create! Idea is king!
@TheAdza - Good call on the "WORDS w/FRIENDS" & "Draw Something". I've been wondering for a while why EA hasn't released a SCRABBLE for the service yet. The tech is obviously there to pull off any number of these games. I mean, is it some kind of a demographics issue I'm not seeing? If investors, and developers alike, are all over the Big N's back about developing for iOS & android, they could at least wait to fuss after they've initially attempted to bring the IP's that sell so well on those devices over to the eShop, and give it an official go around before they bitch any further. It seems to me that ALL THREE of those IP's would fare extremely well on the eShop. I mean...... "DRAW SOMETHING"..??? No brainer right there. -A
@LittleIrves - Your a man of my own heart! I've thought about a 3D Classics, SNES StarFox for so long now, I could practically produce the game myself at this point!I would definitely also really love to see an online multiplayer focused sequel to Metroid Prime Hunters roll out on the 3Dizzle~ (courtesy of NST, whom did an amazing job with the original. For we all know Retro's "Extremely Busy" at this point on THE Wii U StarFox game we've all been waiting for, for the past 6 or 12 years, depending on how you look at it). And not to mention how cool it would be to see a SEGA follow-up to the heavyweight F-ZERO GX on the gamecube, also with a heavy emphasis on online connectivity. (could you imagine the leader board competition for that game?).- all 3 of which could be great, high quality, online focused, "Fixes" for our hardcore, deep seeded, Nintendo itch- while being priced affordably for the masses on the eShop, and keeping development costs down.
Let's do it Nintendo. Chip chop...
Oh yeah, --in childs voice-- and please give us really cool headsets for our super awesomely, rad & gnarly Nintendo 3DS's so we can look cool while talking to our friends across town & country, completely immersed in all these sweet new games we just spoke about. Amen..
Was JUST reading over the Technical Specs on E3.Nintendo.Com, and it states that, quote: .."Storage: Wii U uses an internal flash memory. It also supports SD memory cards and external USB storage.." end quote.
So yeah..... I think we're good. Nintendo has learned from it's many mistakes. Well, maybe not from E3 presentative mistakes, i.e. LACK OF CONTENT! sighs... but I doubt they would go that route with the memory solutions all over again.
Lots of interesting points here- I personaly appreciate the "Featured" catagories & content. It takes the guess work out of searching for new weekly content. If i'm ever still not sure where to look, I use the "Latest Sofware" or "---- Videos" filter, or the search bar all together. The fact that the title has to be spelled out completely, correctly, & doesn't utilize a "keyword" infastructure is kind of disheartening, but I feel overall that Nintendo are moving in the right direction with downloadable content, & the dashboard from which to find & purchase it. They aren't trying to be Sony, or Apple, & I for one appreciate the slow & steady approach. Also, & correct me if I'm over speculative, and/or just wrong, but I thought that when the Nintendo Network goes LIVE, it's incorporating accounts & profiles, thus linking the 3DS & Wii U to the user & his/her downloaded content. Wasn't this just announced. I expect an eShop update/system update to be coming in the not-so-distant future.
