Thomas, we can do this all day, as apparently your appetite for crow is insatiable.
In post #56, which you reference above, I said: "Come on everyone, show of hands: Is there anyone - ANYONE???? here that read this review and said, 'yeah, I gotta have that!'"
And in response you're pointing out one person who said he is "tempted" to get it. There is an irreconcilable difference between the two. I find it difficult to fathom that your reading comprehension skills are so lacking as to prevent you from recognizing this. Consequently, I have to believe that you're being a last word freak, or worse yet, trolling. Whichever the case, you kinda sound like an... well, never mind. I'm done with you here. Go nuts.
Thomas, if you want to expose a laughable ignorance by calling me a troll, that's up to you.
But come on, one person saying he's "tempted to buy it" doesn't meet the criterion of "gotta have it." And that one person's "temptation" is held against foundations of those that read this "bad press" and wisely decided to pass on downloading it? Please.
It has a "tech demo" look to it, in my opinion. Kind of like the slicing challenge in Sports Resort, except with creepies instead of household items. So production values, audio, and soundtrack (if any) will make or break this game for me.
LOL forever @45. You're serious TJ? Then, Sean, you should be ashamed of yourself for giving such an "encouraging" review!
Come on everyone, show of hands: Is there anyone - ANYONE???? here that read this review and said, "yeah, I gotta have that!" cricket... cricket...
Wait, let me guess: all the if-there-were-such-a-thing-bad press Toyota's getting these days is actually good too, right, TJ?
"There's no such thing as bad press" is just a trite, anachronistic phrase whose truth only survived the Internet for the Paris Hiltons of the world. I'll bet it was written by a bad PR flack who tried to justify his existence - hopefully right before getting the axe!
"There's no such thing as bad press..." Now where have I heard that recently? Hmm, nevermind.
Sean, thanks for jumping on this grenade for many members, myself included, that were almost willing to take the chance on this game because of the pretty decent video. You saved me 800 points, and lots of frustration. Again, thanks!
Thomas Joseph, are you hiring? I'm pretty good at what I do, especially when I'm not too lazy to do it - promise! I'm usually punctual, except when I oversleep. And I'm very, very focused, so long as I'm not distracted. And let's not forget how well I exagerate - oh, wait, you haven't seen me do that yet - I'd hate to impinge upon your patent.
LZ, this was a biggie. Not some poor font selection or misplaced drop shadow. The next generation of each console, the Wii in particular, is a hot topic. The magazine needed to be way more diligent when it came to this article and its picture.
Thomas Joseph, yes, real consequences. In the big-boy world of published journalism, credibility is your stock and trade. Difficult to earn, priceless when achieved, and lost only through embarassment and shame. These clowns just copped to near-felony laziness and unpreparedness to do their jobs - and lost a large amount of credibility in the process - to those discerning enough to care, that is. That's enough right there to fire the person responsible, forthwith. It should be the Art Director, if he has a "the buck stops here" sign on his desk.
And if just one in a thousand (very conservative, given the dedication of the readership) saw this error and deferred purchase of a Wii because of it, that's 400 units unsold, or $80,000 MSRP in product (probably more than the Art Director makes in a year, for comparison).
Furthermore, add in the rumor mill which will increase the effect of each of these consequences, and see just how "real" they become.
Thanks for clearing that up, Daniel. Good luck with your projects! I hope the iPhone app is received well. I'd be personally interested in learning how that goes.
Hold up, hold up... I downloaded this soundtrack back in JUNE of last year. Direct from Gramke's site. And I even posted links here on the forums - again, back in the day. AND, didn't we just hear about Semnat Studios closing up shop? Or am I losing my mind (again)? I'm guessing they have a NoE release up their sleeves.
I just don't remember at any point playing any Wii game where I have thought "this would have been better with more pixels".
But there are a bunch of times when I've been played a great looking game on PS3 or Xbox and thought "this would have been better with motion controls." Nintendo can leave that to Sony and Microsoft with the Wand and Natal, or they can do something to capture that market. In my opinion, if it weren't for the global recession, I'd say they'd already taken too long.
Releasing these games on VCA would result in a tsunami of downloads and free money for Nintendo - but only if they do it within a certain time. If they wait too much longer, they risk losing the interest of people that grew up with these games in the arcade, as nostalgia is a vital factor.
I will instantly purchase ANY better-quality VCA release, and the DK, DK Jr., and Mario Bros. are certainly on that list.
@vendetta Again: the question when a game is mature is irrelevant. A game is mature when it gets that rating because of violent or sexual content. This doesn't make a game necessarily interesting to mature people. If you necessarily need an answer: Mature games are games that ask a lot from the emotional and intellectual development of a human beeing. I'm not sure these games exist.
So basically, you don't like immature games, but can't name any mature ones, And you're not even sure they exist? In other words, you don't like games. Okay then! You've been trolling pointlessly against this game. Your 5-hour long 15 minutes of fame here are over. I'm done with you.
Retro, for someone who's spent a meaningful part of his day railing against this game based on its immaturity, your response is at once both perplexing and disappointing. You cited specifically the geekness and bloodiness of this title and implied their intrinsic immaturity. That you should now call the question of what opposing qualities would make a title mature can only be seen as avoidance.
You felt strongly enough to carry on your argument for a long time. Was it was purely an argument of opposition to this game's style, without the benefit of support for an alternate one?
I believe that games receive ratings not so much to qualify the games themselves, but to filter the eligible audience. A title with a rating of mature doesn't mean the content of the game is mature. I have yet to hear of a US Healthcare Debate: Wii title being announced. But games that include violence, gore, and/or sexual content - while not necessarily mature in and of themselves - should only be enjoyed (yes, "enjoyed") by those mature enough to separate such content from real life expectations.
I'd still be eager to hear what you consider a "mature game," now that we all have a very clear idea of what you consider an immature one.
Good work, Drake. It's a solid, thoughtful review. I'm sure Luigi-La-Bouncy appreciates it too... he's probably just too busy to say so right now. Don't worry, I'm sure he'll get around to it eventually - no rush though.
Thanks for the first looks, Corb. Sounds like you enjoyed it. I'll look forward to more info as the release date nears, and will pick it up if it stays on track.
Ohhhh, it's gonna be a fun day here at NintendoLife. Can't ya just FEEL it?
@Rowdy, 56 & 61: I lol'd I admit it... but yeah, that was a bit extreme. Coming back to clear it up was a standup move on your part. Your slate's clean, buddy.
Good advice, Adam. e.g.: An additional e-waste criterion has been added and most of the existing criteria have been sharpened, with additional demands. The new e-waste criterion requires the brands to report on the use of recycled plastic content across all products and provide timelines for increasing content.
Again, I'm ALL FOR doing more with less. But it's this kind of language that exposes them and their ilk as nothing but thugs and blackmailers - at least to me.
Apple... Heh, gotta laugh. Have you seen the gluttonous waste that goes into making just one of their monobody aluminum laptop casings? They've got people soooo fooled. Their stuff looks damn good though - second to none, even. I'll give 'em that!
I doubt you'll see first-party controllers with built-in M+ support until the next generation. Nintendo's covered with the snap-on, and now these third-party versions. Plus, there would be a lot of resentment on the part of all the M+ owners/adopters if Nintendo released a built-in after pushing the snap-on as they did.
I hate sanctimonious pricks like this. I can't name one person I know that thinks littering is ok. I can't name one person I know that would intentionally leave too many lights on. Same for turning up the heat while opening the windows. Or leaving the water running for no reason. And I can't name one person I know that wouldn't stop to help a wounded dog, or at least call authorities if he saw one. Or beat the living crap out of a person he saw abusing an animal (or again, call the authorities).
But here come Greenpeace and PETA to the rescue, sensationalizing the common sense of decency which most of us already possess in abundance. As if they were fighting some enormous, well-funded "pro-waste," or "pro-animal-cruelty" government lobby. Please.
And since you claim to appreciate logic, here's a free lesson in it, just for you: What you've done there is wrongly apply cause and effect, assuming that because (a.) I am a Wii owner and (b.) I am impulsive, that b is a result of a, or vice versa, both of which are incorrect. There is no cause/effect relationship between my owning a Wii and being playfully impulsive. I was that way loooong before I got one.
Went to Dave & Busters last weekend to watch the Redskins get whooped by the Cowboys. The game was a blowout, so I went to browse the arcade floor for a while, and there it was, staring me in the face for the long walk towards the back wall: Fastdraw Showdown. I'll accept that as an omen, and download this one without hesitation.
Rich, hello and welcome to Nintendo Life. . While your offer is very generous, and will no doubt be siezed upon in short order, I'm not sure it will have the desired effect.
Other developers of both positively and poorly reviewed games alike have opened a dialog with members here in the Forum section, and this is where hearts and minds are changed. I invite you to open a thread to discuss your title with current and potential customers. It will give you a valuable venue to receive both praise and constructive criticism which you may choose to apply toward your next effort.
I wish you good luck with your sales, success on the WiiWare platform, and again, a warm welcome to Nintendo Life. -Vendetta
If "Zii" was supposed to be like "see," then ummm, why not just register "Cii" instead? I doubt they're all suddenly speaking with German accents over at Nintendo.
While I agree with Bro also, I wonder if the Strong Bad series was affected by the phenomenon. I like titles that are self contained, myself, but let's be honest, calling Episode I "The Phantom Menace" didn't make it suck any less.
I'll be keeping an eye on this one, for sure. Do a good job, Legendo!

Sean, you're the envy of a LOT of people here today. Good work, brother!
Re: Capcom Reveals Everything You Want To Know About Monster Hunter 3
I dunno why, but I get the feeling there might be a collectors' edition for this one. It just has that kind of heaviness for a title that begs for it.
Either way, I'm getting this game.

It's all good, Slapshot. See, sometimes the mark bodes well.
Re: First Impressions: And Yet It Moves
Some people actually dig on that, 'Chu.
I bet the Wii controls will be greater than the PC controls (which I haven't tried, by the way).

Another contact on the radar. Sounds pretty good!
