Re: Masahiro Sakurai Says There's No Correct Way To Play Super Smash Bros.

UberMadman

It seems that people are taking this opportunity to mouth off competitive players, but I think a lot of people are missing the point of Sakurai’s quote. There is NO correct way to play Smash, which means that playing with all items on and on non-competitive stages isn’t the “correct” way to play either. Just as Sakurai wouldn’t have included items if he intended no one to use them, he wouldn’t have included the ability to turn them all off if he didn’t want players to be able to turn them off. Yes, competitive elitists exist, but so do casual elitists who genuinely believe they are better for playing the way “Sakurai intended.”

TL:DR: It’s fine to like this game both competitively and casually. No matter which you prefer, don’t be mean to people who don’t like playing the game the same way you do.

Re: Round Up: Metroid Prime: Federation Force Predictably Divides Opinion

Well I did some scouting myself, and combining the scores from this article with some others from another one and some from metacritic, I've come up with a comprehensive review guide.

Graded reviews (from least to greatest):

4.5/10 - Nintendo Enthusiast
5.5/10 - Destructoid
5.9/10 - IGN
7/10 - Evereye
7/10 - SpazioGaming
7/10 - TheGamesMachine
7/10 - Attack of the Fanboy
7/10 - Dualshockers
7/10 - God is a Geek
8/10 - Nintendo Life
8/10 - Nintendo Insider
9/10 - Nintendo World Report

The general consensus seems to be 7/10, which is decent but not spectacular. It would seem that the "Nintendo" site reviewers are most biased towards liking it... except Nintendo Enthusiast, who hated it the most.

Ungraded reviews (from most scathing to most praising, to the best of my ability):

"[ends] up falling a little short" - Eurogamer

"just enough here to make it worthwhile for those looking for a unique multiplayer experience" - Nintendo Everything

"even if this game doesn't fully deserve to wear the name Metroid, it's an excellent portable FPS in its own right" - USGamer

"one of the most pleasant surprises of the season" - Kotaku

"I like it a lot... 3DS shooter with impeccable mission variety that you can enjoy with your friends" - GameXplain

The unscored reviews tend to be much more positive - at worst it falls a little short, at best it's a highly recommendable portable multiplayer shooter.

Based on all these reviews, I get the sense that the game actually does have merit to it, but one must try it for themselves to see if it's worth your time.

Re: Nintendo Producer Highlights How Paper Mario: Color Splash Improves on Sticker Star

UberMadman

Honestly, that doesn't sound like enough of a departure from Sticker Star's formula to convince me to buy this game. Greater inventory limit and a more interesting secondary character are steps in the right direction, but the lack of other interesting characters, incentive to engage in combat, remotely interesting plot, (unless the "mystery" is actually good, which I doubt,) and overwhelming linearity are the biggest problem with the original that seem to carry over to this game.

Re: Anniversary: Sonic the Hedgehog is Now 25 Years Old

Congratulations to the blue blur for 25 years! There certainly were ups and downs with this franchise over the years, but overall it has made a lot of gamers very happy. Playing the classic Genesis and Adventure games on my Gamecube were some of my fondest childhood memories.

Oh, and the Sonic YouTube channel has made a very interesting retrospective video for the occasion that I feel should be added to the article. It's quite charming.
