Re: What Nintendo games do you want to see on the Virtual Console?

TourianTourist

@ChibiLink: Doesn't really matter, if it's called DSiWare or Virtual Handheld. Just make it possible. ^^

By the way, you can enter the Four Swords Palace in ALttP by using some glitches (Mirror jumping glitch ftw). Just google for some guides. But what you can't do without Four Swords is the Riddle Quest. And obviously playing Four Swords, still the best multiplayer version of Zelda up to date.

@KingElemento: Ah, another one being interested in BS games. The more the better. ^^

Re: What Nintendo games do you want to see on the Virtual Console?

TourianTourist

I'm very satisfied with the VC so far, so my requests are rather exotic. As for the Virtual Console on the Wii, I would be interested in remakes of the BS games, especially in the Zelda ones. It's hard to do and they would probably have to change a lot, thanks to the nature of the BS-X system, but I believe a lot of people could be interested, solely because of curiosity. And of course they should release the last missing Zelda game on the VC, Master Quest, some day. But there's no hurry.

And I agree to everyone, who said Virtual Handheld on the DSi.

The original GBA game "Zelda: Four Swords" with online mutliplayer (or at least a local multiplayer option) would the greatest thing ever. That's the only Zelda game, I could never finish (because I didn't have anyone to play with), it's really good and fun (better than FSA imho) and I would buy a DSi just for that.

And of course there are lots of other great GameBoy and GBA games. Game&Watch is a really nice start, but don't stop there, Nintendo.

So, here's my wishlist:

  • BS The Legend of Zelda (remake)
  • BS The Legend of Zelda: Ancient Stone Tablets (remake)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Master Quest (N64)
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - Four Swords (GBA on DSi, online multiplayer)

Looks like I'm a fan of Zelda curiosities. Well, I am.

Terranigma belongs to Square/Enix right? So, I'm going to mention this, when you ask "What Square/Enix games do you want to see on the Virtual Console?" ^^

Re: Rumor: Nintendo Prepping More Non-Games For DSiWare

TourianTourist

@Darknyht:
Well, I agree. I didn't want to say, that I find the DSiWare service appealing either and I'm still waiting for a reason to buy a DSi. Currently there is no exclusive feature, I'm interested in, so I stay with my DSLite for now. While I understand, what Nintendo wants to achieve with the DSiWare system, I too think it would be time to step it up...

However, about the "Virtual Handheld", I'm not so sure anymore, if Nintendo will this pull off or not. Thanks to license issues and ESRB rating the Virtual Console became quite a problem and isn't as profitable, as you may think. Plus, if those DSi applications would be outsold by 2-bit grayscale color games, it would be a huge disaster. So, I believe, Nintendo has decided against a Virtual Handheld for the moment, though it would probably be the coolest thing on the DSi... oh well.

Re: Rumor: Nintendo Prepping More Non-Games For DSiWare

TourianTourist

Both WiiWare and DSiWare are really misunderstood services. They are to test new game concepts on the market, it's too risky to experiment with 50$ or 60$ titles. Plus the DSiWare service with its applications is there to defend the DSi from the iPhone.

So, if you say, "I don't like those clocks and calculators, so I won't download them", then you're exactly doing, what Nintendo wants you to do. Those are marketing tests, if they fail, Nintendo does make nearly no loss from those, but if they succeed, the next big hit might spawn from one of those DSiWare minigames.

Re: Wii Is "Fool's Gold"

TourianTourist

That's simply because Nintendo creates quality games, most third party developers do not. Especially in the category of games like Wii Sports or Wii Fit. The third party developers thought "omg, look, it's a casual boom!!! let's make stupid cheap games for retarded people" not realizing the new customers on the video game market, that were attracted by Nintendo, didn't want stupid cheap games for retarded people, they wanted something different, something light, something quality, that is not a "super hardcore mature blood gore rape frag-fest". Because - and I don't want to shatter the reality of our 14 year old "hardcore" gamers here - not everyone enjoys complicated games, that waste a lot of time and that have sex and violance as the main theme. And Nintendo was the only one, who actually really knew, what the people wanted. And now they are making "bridge games" like Mario Kart to finally get their new customers more into their old franchises like Mario or Zelda. Good strategy.

But the point is. It's not Nintendo's fault, that third parties games aren't selling well. I mean, should Nintendo now stop making games, so the third parties stand a chance? They are already doing this on WiiWare and it sucks. How about the third parties just try to be a little better.

And it's all relative. I don't think the games would sell that much different on others consoles. It's not like a bad game on the Wii is actually a hit on the XBox, or is it? It just doesn't look that bad in comparison, because there's no big competition like for example... errrh... Nintendo on these systems.

Re: Miyamoto: You Need A Controller For True Immersion

TourianTourist

I totally agree with our mastermind. The Wiimote normally utilizes ingame equipment - like a golf club in WiiSports, the wheel in Mario Kart, a sword in Zelda or the Powerbeam in Metroid. The Wiimote becomes your weapon or your tool and it feels good. That's why I love playing with it so much...

Natal on the other hand ... how are going to play FPS games with it (which is XBox's main genre btw)? How do I perform sword fighting? It won't work or feel very awkward, because you're not holding something in your hands. Nathan said, using periphals would be a solution... but why not make a periphal in the first place? If I have to buy a periphal for every new game, it defeats the whole purpose of the system.

And you have to consider, the hardware is only as good as the software made for the hardware. What's Microsoft XBox's biggest hits? Epic won't create Gears of War 3 for Natal and Bungie won't create Halo 4 for this thing, because it won't work. There won't be a Final Fantasy XIII for EyeToy2.0. There will probably some cheap "casual games", but nothing as good as Wii Sports or Mario Kart. Nintendo's biggest strength is being a gaming software AND hardware developer, Microsoft and Sony aren't. They will both now fight each other for who has the better HD EyeToy, while Nintendo sailed a long time ago into a successful market.

What Microsoft is doing right now is hype, hype, hype. They are not going to release this thing in the early future and when they release it, it won't be anything like what we saw on this year's E3. The Windows Vista of motion controls. They didn't show us anything real, they could just have announced the Microsoft Holodeck for that matter. And they don't care, because the only thing they really want is to say to the customers "hey, hold on, don't buy a Wii, because we're making a better motion control system". They don't care about actually making a good motion control system, that works with games, because that's not their goal. Hype, hype, hype is their goal.

Re: New Console Colours to Hit Japan

TourianTourist

This sucks. Seriously, I have waited two years to buy a Wii hoping they would release it in black in the meantime. But then I stopped waiting, because I couldn't resist anymore. Now, one year after I got my Wii, they're releasing a black model? Now that's just awesome... couldn't this come out a little earlier? Let's say like a year or so?

I hope this will be Japan-exclusive, because otherwise I would be really mad at Nintendo. Rebuying everything in black is definitely not an option.

Re: EU Club Nintendo Gets Giratina DS Lite

TourianTourist

So far with all my games and registered consoles (it started with GBA and NGC, you can't register GB or N64 stuff or older) I got 9255 stars. I've spent most of them for Nintendo Points, but sometimes I wish I hadn't.

However, I've won this golden Zelda statue at a Nintendo sponsored Zelda quiz. If you wanna take a look at it, go ahead:

http://touriantourist.blogspot.com/2008/12/zelda-quiz-prices.html

It's really awesome and definitely worth all those stars, if you have them. But 30.000 for this DSLite is ridiculous. I really wonder, who has that amount of stars left.

Re: Metroid Prime Trilogy

TourianTourist

Pretty much the best deal since "Super Mario Allstars". You get the full price game Corruption plus two "New Play Control!"-games for the price of a single game. Also, two of the very best GameCube games combined with the awesome controls of Corruption alone is a very good reason to get this. And the multiplayer mode is still there. I'm really looking forward to this, it's an instant must-buy.

So, I hope, this will be released in Europe, too. But since they haven't announced both Metroid Prime games for the European NPC series, I think the chances are good.

Re: Nintendo Confirms Metroid Prime Trilogy For Wii

TourianTourist

I think, the Fusion Suit will be unlockable with the credit system. (They now use credits/vouchers to unlock extras in MP1 and MP2, basically like they did in Corruption.) But Metroid definitely will be cut out, since they want to sell the Virtual Console release.

Re: Wii Sports Resort To Feature Golf, Table Tennis

TourianTourist

Golf was my favorite gametype in the original Wii Sports, so I'm very happy they brought it back, probably with lots of new courses and maybe 18 holes this time.

And table tennis in Wii Play wasn't very good, so I'm glad they're making a new version of this as well.

Re: Zelda: Spirit Tracks To Appeal To a Wider Age Group?

TourianTourist

@Stuffgamer1:

Exactly, that's the whole point: fun. But everyone connects something else with the term"fun", some people think that hard and challenging games are fun.

I personally don't care if the enemies deal tons of damage or not, I don't think that something frustrating like Zelda II or Megaman is fun. But what I want, and that's really important to me, are clever puzzles and well hidden pieces of heart or other collective items and a good level of non-linearity. I think a fun dungeon is one, which always offers multiple ways to go. A linear dungeon (like all the dungeons in TP for example) isn't fun in my eyes, it takes away the fun of exploring things. The same with the overworld, I should have the possibility of going nearly everywhere from the early stages of the game, like in Ocarina of Time. And it's always a good thing if you can play the dungeons out of order. A linear game doesn't let you freely explore the world and it's not fun in my eyes if you get forced to much. Freedom and exploration = fun. Linear game design = not.

And sometimes you want to be challenged. I said it before, I don't care about the enemies too much, but what I like are well hidden extras. It goes nothing over finding a well hidden piece of heart after a long time. Sidequests should and can be challenging, since the casual gamers don't care about them anyway and are not forced to play them. They always should add something for the Zelda veterans, because those are the people who bought their Zelda games over ages now. And a long time Zelda fan is looking for a challenge and his experience level is quite high. So, at least have some well hidden secrets or add some challenging minidungeons to satisfy some of the long time fans.

Re: Zelda: Spirit Tracks To Appeal To a Wider Age Group?

TourianTourist

@Terranigma:
Yes, there were difficulty "levels" in the Zelda series in form of the "2nd Quests". But this was only supported by the original Zelda game on the NES, Four Swords and Ocarina of Time with its "Master Quest" version.

See, the difficulty in Zelda is very complex. You can't just do difficulty settings like for example in Metroid, where the enemies deal more damage and it's fine. Enemies, damage, puzzles, locations of hidden items, complexity of sidequests, level of non-linearity... there are so many factors that are important for the difficulty of a Zelda game, you can't just cover them in a simple difficulty level system like in other games. That's were the so called "2nd Quests" come in, but so far Nintendo haven't made a lot of efforts in this category. Some games like Oracles or The Wind Waker for example got a 2nd Quest, but it didn't change anything in terms of difficulty.

And I really doubt that Spirit Tracks will get something like this.

Re: NPC Jungle Beat Gets Euro Date

TourianTourist

The only NPC titles I would be interested in are Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2 Echoes. I loved those games on the GameCube and I love the controls of Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, combining both is definitely a good move. But so far there weren't any official announcements, that NOA or NOE are going to release those.

Re: Ten Game Boy Games You Should Be Playing

TourianTourist

I would have chosen "Final Fantasy Adventure" (Mystic Quest) instead of FF Legend, but still a good list. My favorite GB games were:

1. The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
2. Mystic Quest
3. Metroid II - Return of Samus
4. Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3
5. Tetris

But Link's Awakening will definitely remain in my list of all time favorites. This was the first game I ever got obsessed with.
