Re: Nintendo Download: 21st June 2010 (North America)

Steviis_Father

Nintendo seems to show that Virtual Console no longer has any more games left to adopt from old systems.... WHY?! There are so so so so so so so so so so (so x 100) many more titles that have yet to come. If I had to name just ONE (1) or TWO (2) games that haven't come out for each system, I could!

Here:
VC Arcade: Pac-Man / Gauntlet
Commodore 64: Delta / Montezuma's Revenge
MSX: ANYTHING!
NES: Duck Hunt / Jaws
Master System: Ghostbusters
TurboGrafx-16: Legendary Axe
Sega Mega Drive: Battletoads / X-Men: The Clone Wars
Neo Geo: Last Blade / Neo Mr. Do
SNES: Super-Scope games / Chrono Trigger
Nintendo 64: NBA Hangtime / International Superstar Soccer 64

And that's just MY list! Everyone else in this forum have wish lists of their own, as does the rest of the world. So clearly Nintendo hasn't covered all bases yet! C'mon!

Re: Excitebike: World Rally

Steviis_Father

No local multiplayer? Any chance for it to have a two player mode, at least, like the Jap-only 1987 famicom disk system game "Vs. Excitebike"? That would be sweet! Or even if you could unlock the original, too!

Re: Capcom Interested In Doing More Retro Games

Steviis_Father

Remake "The Magical Quest featuring Mickey Mouse"... Seriously.
It holds up really well, even by today's standards of gameplay (it has a lot in common with the 1-player mode in Trine). But frankly, if they utilize an awesome 2D animated art-style (Dust: An Elysian Tale, Muramasa, etc.) it could really work!

They do really well in the animation department (Tatsunoku Vs. Capcom...and basically every other animated fighting game of theirs.), so trying to do a tie up with Disney to accomplish such a feat would be a walk in the park.

Plus now that Disney bough Marvel, maybe Mickey Mouse can come out in future fighting games as his Magical Quest switching self! Anything's possible!

Re: Super Empire Strikes Back

Steviis_Father

This game was the best of the three...and all three have been the best renditions of the SW movies since the rather lacking JVC NES version, and the weird NAMCOT (NAMCO) Jap Famicom version before it. And that had Vader turn into a scorpion in the 1st level! tsk, tsk, tsk.

Seriously, when you think about it, there hasn't been a game on ANY CONSOLE, that has since given you the chance to play-out the movies from beginning to end, with mixing play styles, and close to original music (and before you throw Lego Star Wars at me, does Luke really look like a blocky figure in the movies?! Did he really take structures apart and come up with other stuff in the movies?). Rogue Squadron II and III each were awesome, but only offered portions of the movies...in separate games. Plus they were really better as flying games.

This SNES game, Empire Strikes Back, offers great sprites, cool graphic effects (mode-7, scaling and paralax), stellar music in JVC surround, the ability to play through stages with different characters, each with their own abilities (and idle animations), a nice password system, creative gameplay, and all at an awesome value of 800 points! If you're not getting the game for the visuals, get it for this reason: This is the ONLY game that lets you play The Empire Strikes Back in totality.

This game is more of a gem among Star Wars games.

Re: Review: Super Star Wars (Virtual Console / Super Nintendo)

Steviis_Father

I agree with the points raised in the review, though i would've given it an 8 at least. Still, the game does shine considering what it offered in a single SNES cartridge. I own my original SNES copy until today, and the frayed condition of the box is only testament to how many times I played this game. The idle animations were incredible back then, and making Han Solo roll was an incredible trip! The game should be bought because it is one of the best pre-millenium, retro Star Wars games out there - music, graphics, gameplay variety, relative faithfulness to source material (the Empire game was even better, though Return was not as good... don't even talk to me about the indy game. Pitiful game design compared to the Star Wars games.)

If you don't own this game, enjoyed the previous trilogy, and want to a fun way to play the whole movie in a game...this is by far the best choice, because come to think of it, there has NEVER been another game that has come out (not Lego-fied) that lets you play the entire "Star Wars: A New Hope"! Awesome! Stay tuned for the next 2!

Re: What LucasArts games do you want to see on Virtual Console?

Steviis_Father

Although not really a home-console game, I think Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis ought to be available for separate purchase from the Shopping Channel. I don't think dropping full-price on the crappy Staff of Kings is worth it, so Nintendo/Lucasarts.... PLEASE RELEASE THE GAME SEPARATELY!

*also others like, Loom, original Monkey Island games, the Dig... these SCUMM games would work wonderfully on the Wii!

Re: Review: Bit.Trip Core (WiiWare)

Steviis_Father

I downloaded it last night, and... it's hard. It's really hard. But a blast to play with friends! Passing the controller around to see who can edge the furthest in the first stage is so old-school! It's a mind screw, but a screw well worth it!

Re: Review: Asphalt 4: Elite Racing (DSiWare)

Steviis_Father

I think that Gameloft ought to be congratulated on such an effort, but to put things into perspective and proper context, maybe the conclusion ought to read, "Asphalt 4 Elite Racing (A4ER) is potentially one of the best driving sims on the DS..." simply because Mario Kart is arguably (though there really is no argument here to it being) the best racing game on the DS. Still A4ER's arcade-y feel helps keep the high-speed fun with the real-world cars, so it's a great arcade effort, too. Kudos to gameloft for coming so far in the handheld gaming world.

Re: Mercs

Steviis_Father

half an hour to beat... so that means that the Youtube clip shows about a seventh of the game. Hahaha!

Re: ESRB Cleans Up

Steviis_Father

Maybe the recent recession has caused the ESRB to rethink it's strategy. Instead of laying off employees, they're laying off...GAMES! The horror!

Re: Review: Planet Pachinko (WiiWare)

Steviis_Father

This game may have Allied Kingdom's response to making a physics-based game like "Little Big Planet" on the Wii... Of course, many things set these two games apart, and LBP is surely a masterpiece compared to this downloadable spitball. But maybe by looking at it as some sort of spastic cousin of LBP, without the stage-making & sharing online, the game may be forgiven for its faults.

Re: Bruiser & Scratch

Steviis_Father

It seems to play a bit like Pengo (pushing sliding blocks)...
but on second thought, it seems a lot more like that block puzzle at Snowpeak Ruins from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hN_ZS1gXIe4)...
But AN ENTIRE GAME ON THAT MECHANIC!

Spend 1000 points and let me know if I was wrong.

Re: Forgotten Worlds

Steviis_Father

This game looks awesome, and strangely similar to Natsume's S.C.A.T. Of course, the graphics are much better, but is there any reason why they both utilize the same game mechanic? Which came first? (I can tell you honestly that Forgotten Worlds looks a whole lot better, while S.C.A.T. looked...well, like scat.)

Re: Art Style: Rotohex

Steviis_Father

Dialhex was pretty fun, but as Starwolf_UK mentioned, severely limited. I can't wait to see dotstream brought to WiiWare...
Nintendo...
dotstream dotstream dotstream dotstream dotstream dotstream dotstream dotstream dotstream dotstream dotstream dotstream dotstream dotstream dotstream dotstream... multiplayer multiplayer multiplayer multiplayer multiplayer multiplayer multiplayer multiplayer multiplayer multiplayer... dotstream multiplayer...dotstream multiplayer...dotstream multiplayer...

Re: The Incredible Maze

Steviis_Father

Still there are mazes in Kororinpa...so if you don't want a full experience... get this. But I say, get Kororinpa because of the a.) 2 player race, b.) bonus balls, and c.) great control.

Re: Bomberman Blast

Steviis_Father

Second only to Mega Man, I never had a clearer impulse buy for my Wii... Immediate launch date purchase! Immediate fun! Immediate blasting!

Re: Review: Art Style: Orbient (WiiWare)

Steviis_Father

I bought myself the bitGeneration games off Ebay back in 2006, Orbital one of them. Although Orbital wasn't my favorite, it did leave a lot for me to like. I don't think this game will be worth my money (since I have a portable version of the game already), but for anyone who likes a game that uses a great gravity system (mix "cave run" with Mario Galaxy's tug-stars), you'll have a good time with this game.

3/5 stars

  • Makes me wonder if they intend to bring the other bitGeneration games to WiiWare. A multiplayer dotstream would be just awesome! Even if it's not online...

Re: Hardware Focus - NEC SuperGrafx

Steviis_Father

i know this isn't related...but given that this is latest post on monday, I was wondering where the virtual console/wii ware release is today...

Did Mega Man 9 eclipse releases for 2 weeks or something?

Re: Vectorman

Steviis_Father

The theme of the humans leaving the planet and leaving WALL·E...er...I mean, Vectorman to clean up is really inspiring..

Re: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

Steviis_Father

I await the day when I decide to buy this game...right now I'm in the middle of so many other current (Okami, Super Paper Mario, etc.) and classic titles (Ninja Gaiden II) that I have yet to finish. I never bought this game on SNES back in the day, and it's a game on my own personal pile of shame. I urge anyone considering to buy this game to go ahead and buy it. This game wouldn't be on any top game lists of all time for nothing. No brainer. The best 800 Wii points you'll ever spend.
