Re: Soapbox: We Like To Grumble, But Nintendo Switch Online Is Actually A Very Generous Offer

I've been holding back commenting until I'd had chance to really sit down with my Switch this eve and start playing.

For me, I'm not particularly impressed. I've not really been impressed with the Switch this year to be honest. Most of the games have been sequels and ports, very few original games. This just feels so typical of how the year has gone so far.

For a start the NES collection is just plain poor, these are games most people will play for two or three minutes and put down... most of us have played these games to death already. Yes, it's nice we have them but I'd happily pay £20 more for the subscription if that included more games, games from the snes, n64, GameCube and wii. I can see they are going for a Netflix style approach but it's sooo underdeveloped. Xbox Live and PS4 Plus are so much interesting subscriptions. Even the GamePass on Xbox is quite neat.

We still don't have proper voice chat, the interface is still bare bones, there's no trophy system or rewards. It just feels undercooked.

Being cheap is not always an appealing feature. Nintendo doesn't need to be cheap, the Switch is doing well. Even with a pretty slow year of quality first party games the console is doing great. I literally played all the Nes games this evening, each for about 30 seconds then deleted the app from console. If you enjoy retro games, great! But very few people in 2018 are going to keep coming back to them. I actually hope Nintendo get burned a little here, maybe they'll be more ambitious in the future.

Yh so disappointed...

Got kind of excited when this came to Switch as I don't really play games on my phone however after a few days of dipping in and out I find it's far to slow without the micro transactions so I've already deleted it. Same with Pokemon Quest, that's long gone as well.

What I would like to see a huge improvement on in the next generation of Pokemon games is a more fluid and engaging world.

I feel like all the NPCs are placed in the game to serve the player, to give hints and talk endlessly about Pokemon tactics. It would be great to see real characterization, real stories and NPCs that are doing 'something' even if the player isn't present.

About 4 - 5 hours into any Pokemon game I simply stop going into houses, stop speaking to NPCs and stop interacting with the world because it's really actually very shallow & boring.
