Three stars isn't low enough. I think I'd give this a 2. Talk about dull.
Having said that, Samus Aran is one of the most interesting characters Nintendo has ever made. She's right up there with Captain Falcon, Wolf, Ganondorf, and, uh...that's about it.
I agree with you completely Tony, except I'd give it a perfect 10! And Roo, it is much better than Golden Axe, Final Fight, and "all the rest of 'em". You're right!
This game might not be as fun as KOF XI or Street Fighter III: Third Strike, but its story possessed depth that virtually all other fighting games now are sorely lacking (except for Mortal Kombat, of course). Plus, the graphics and soundtrack were both spectacular. This game is a feast for the imagination, a work of art!
I believe this game to be better than its successor. The sequel was simply too convoluted for a Mario title. Having said that, I love both entries to death.
"The original form of something, which has the essential features and is the model for subsequent forms." That's the definition of "Prototype" off of my computer's dictionary.
Think of Super Smash Bros. (the prototype for the rest of the series) as a template. It was great for a first try, but they needed to expand it. In Melee, they did just that. Then, in Brawl, history repeated itself, and Smash Bros. evolved once more.
Melee was a great game, no doubt about it. But when compared to Brawl, so many flaws come to light. Clone characters such as Ganondorf and Falco had all the same animations as their counterparts (Captain Falcon and Fox, respectively). But in Brawl, that was fixed. The soundtrack in Melee was so wimpy than that of Brawl's (which contained many tracks from Melee, mind you). And Melee's gameplay was far too frantic, as Nintendork stated above. And as you yourself mentioned Digiki, Brawl had online. Plus, Sonic was finally present!
But like anything else, it wasn't without its flaws. I found Solid Snake to be an unfitting addition to the roster. And as I said above, the Event Matches were sloppy.
But, like I've said before, we all have our own opinions.
The year this game was released, the second Castlevania was released, along with Metal Gear. both of those games had wonderful stories to tell. And if one person could do it, they all could.
On top of all that, Wonder Boy is simply no fun to play (for me, anyways).
Let me elaborate, Ricardo91. I don’t like certain parts of the Metroid, Mario, or Zelda series. Metroid and Zelda, too me, are nigh impossible to enjoy because I can’t stand playing them. But I usually love the stories so much, I yield and buy the games just to experience it firsthand. Now Mario on the other hand, always has terrible stories (save for the RPG series), but they are mostly fun to play. Just lately, they’ve been slipping (I despise the control gimmicks in Sunshine or Galaxy). I guess I just wish they’d make another Super Mario 64. And I really did, honestly and truly, enjoy Twilight Princess (especially the climatic four-part finale against Ganondorf).
I completely disagree with most of what you've said Mickeymac. But, opinions are like arseholes, everybody has one.
I loath R. Mika, and was delighted to see that Rose made it onto the roster. I figured that since they had most of the characters from SFII, they would eventually add T. Hawk and Dee Jay. But alas, they have not.
But like I said, at least Gouken is playable. Plus, Rufus and C. Viper added some much needed flavor. I just wish Seth looked more original.
What about Alex, Elena, Ibuki, Necro, Gill, Dudley, Q, or Remy? I thought they were all wonderful characters.
Remy and Dudley are so much more interesting than their generic SFII counterparts (Guile and Balrog, respectively). Plus, the game was easily the best entry in the series. And for once, there's a new villain. Between the look and the religious aspect to the character, Gill had so much going for him. But don't get me wrong, I love M. Bison too.
There are characters from SFEX that should also be introduced. D. Dark, Shadowgeist, Kairi, Pullum, C. Jack, and Garuda are all great characters.
As for SFIV, I think C. Viper and Rufus are tremendous additions to the roster, but El Fuerte and Abel are just boring. And I'm glad to see Gouken, he looks...well, awesome!
Well now don't get me wrong. I liked Twilight Princess (I just used the world "tolerable" for dramatic effect), and I love Super Mario 64. It's just the new Mario titles I don't care for. But as for the rest of the Zelda series, and Metroid, no, I don't like it. Now, the F-Zero series, that's different. I love those games, especially F-Zero X.
And yeah, you're right about Melee. It was too fast in certain parts.
I was looking forward to SFIV, until I heard about the roster. I'm bored to tears of the SFII characters. I was hoping for all new fighters, and a new villain. But once again, Bison returns from the dead. Sure, there's Seth, but he looks just like Urien.
It's a shame, because when I saw Crimson Viper, I had high hopes. And yeah, the first ClayFighter is terrible.
The only tolerable Zelda title was Twilight Princess, Metroid is simply a waste of time, and Mario continues to disappoint me. Melee was Brawl's prototype, and the first Smash Bros. was Melee's. The only problem I had with Brawl were the Event Matches. They weren't as creative as Melee's.
The WiiWare needs more high profile titles like Mega Man 9, Dr. Mario Online Rx, or Bomberman Blast. If more prominent developers were to take advantage of the service, I could see a serious increase in downloads. Let's say Sega made a new "classic" Sonic the Hedgehog title, or Nintendo released a 3D remake of F-Zero. I would download both of those games, in no time flat. Every week, a couple of WiiWare games get released that nobody is really excited over, just interested in.
I've only the three games mentioned above, though I did try a few others others. I didn't keep them because they weren't worth the space they took up. And they really should consider putting a stop to the development of those dreaded puzzle games.
I completely disagree chunky_droid. I can't stand most everything about the SNES, save for a few choice titles (Super Mario Land, SMRPG, the obvious selections). I could never understand the thrill of the SNES, to be honest. Though I thought Super Double Dragon was rather entertaining.
I agree with most of what you said WolfLink22. The only difference is that I prefer ClayFighter 63 1/3 to ClayFighter. Though in last place is definitely ClayFighter 2 (it had such disturbing background artwork). And I agree, the Boogerman-Earthworm Jim rivalry was a fun concept. They make a wonderful pair.
I've always preferred the Genesis / Mega Drive to the SNES. There's something about the SNES's sound and graphics that never appealed to me (though, I do love Super Mario Land).
ClayFighter is a rather dull series, though I found ClayFighter 63 1/3 to be entertaining. I especially loved Sumo Santa. He was a villain, and trying to wrestle control of the North Pole away from Bad Mr. Frosty, who was his nemesis. Such a clever spin on the relationship between Santa Claus and Frosty the Snowman.
I preferred Smash Bros. Brawl. The experience was simply more grand. And for once, it had a great soundtrack with a gargantuan variety. But my second favorite is definitely Melee. I used to play that game for hours.
Bomberman '94 is one of the better entries amongst the classic series (along with Bomberman World). I just pray that they get around to releasing the N64 Bomberman games (Bomberman 64, Bomberman 64: The Second Attack, and Bomberman Hero). The Holy Trinity of Bomberman games, I do declare. Among them, Bomberman 64: The Second Attack was my personal favorite.
I prefer the Sega Genesis version of Double Dragon. The music was superior to the others, and the graphics were nigh identical to the arcade edition. And even though the frame rate was lower, there was no slowdown (or at least, a considerable amount less). Having said that, I found every rendition of Double Dragon to be extremely boring. Battletoads & Double Dragon: The Ultimate Team was quite fun, however (again, the Sega Genesis version was my favorite).
I enjoyed the first Super Smash Bros., but I feel that with each entry, the series evolves into something better. Though if this game were released in North America, I would surely purchase it. Unlocking the secret characters was always fun for me.
I adore most of Sonic's games, even the notorious Sonic '06. But to say that I adored Sonic Chaos would simply be a lie. I concur gishagos, this title is garbage.
And soniczelda dude, I had a question. Why not purchase the Sonic Mega Collection? For roughly twenty dollars, you get what most consider to be the golden age of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Re: Review: Sonic Spinball (MD)
I love this game, especially the first level. Plus it has such a wonderful soundtrack. I'd say, a 7.

Re: Review: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (MD)
This is the best entry in the classic Sonic series. This or Sonic & Knuckles.
Re: Review: Super Metroid (SNES)
Okay, I'm gonna have to say it - NOPE, YOU'RE WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: Review: Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards (N64)
I loved Kirby 64, thought it was quite easy, but do agree that Kirby moves like a fat lard.
Re: Life Force
You're absolutely right Mickeymac, you can never have enough shooters. I just wish they'd release Thunderforce III.
Re: Rumour: EarthBound Not Coming to Virtual Console
Wait a minute...EARTHBOUND'S NOT COMING TO NORTH AMERICA!?
Re: Rumour: EarthBound Not Coming to Virtual Console
I'm sure it will eventually be released.

Re: Super Metroid
Actually, Nintendork is right. Zero is better than this.
Re: Paper Mario
I believe this game to be better than its successor. The sequel was simply too convoluted for a Mario title. Having said that, I love both entries to death.
Re: OFLC Update: Even More Imports!
Pulseman reminds me of Ristar.
Re: Super Smash Bros.
We'll just have to agree, to disagree.

I'm sure AlexSays will fill you in on all the details.

Re: USA VC Update: Wonder Boy in Monster Land
It was a joke. You know, Wonder Boy...Childish. Boys are children. Get it? It's supposed to be funny.
All hilarious comments aside, I really don't like this game. The story is just too simple for me to enjoy.
Re: EU VC Update: ClayFighter and Sonic Chaos
I don't have any problems with it...fits like a glove!

Re: EU VC Update: ClayFighter and Sonic Chaos
@ Mike
Agreed.
Re: Super Smash Bros.
Brawl was easily one of Nintendo's best titles on any console, let alone out of the Super Smash Bros. series. But I guess you can't please everyone.
Re: EU VC Update: ClayFighter and Sonic Chaos
@ RadioShadow
I adored Streets of Rage 2's music.
@ Cheezy
I believe Spinball to be the worst.

Re: EU VC Update: ClayFighter and Sonic Chaos
I enjoyed ClayFighter 63 1/3, but I can't really say the same for the older entries. They are rather mediocre, as Corbie said.
Re: Pilotwings
I agree toonsim2, the N64 version is superior.
Re: Japanese Virtual Console list - January 2009
I preferred Smash Bros. Brawl. The experience was simply more grand. And for once, it had a great soundtrack with a gargantuan variety. But my second favorite is definitely Melee. I used to play that game for hours.
Re: Mario Kart 64
Personally, I prefer F-Zero X. The distinct art style, the music, and the interesting characters all make the exciting gameplay that much better.
Re: USA VC Update: Wonder Boy in Monster Land
I don't care for the Wonder Boy series...too childish.
Re: Mercs Coming Soon, With a Different Name!
Mercs feels like Total Carnage to me, neither of which I can say I'm a huge fan of.
