James Newton- Forum Police! that sounds Hot, like the FaceBooks. Keep up the good work! Just don't arrest me for this comment! Wait, I'll save it; excited that a game like Epic Mickey will live to it's name and music hall of fame!
Would have been cool.... but then the 3DS would have been more around $400 by then, I mean the 3G iPad is $130 more than the regular one for that cellular chip..... One day right?
dang.... there goes most my excitement..... How did you guys know that it comes out in March to other territories? They never officially announced that.... yet...
Ah.... Assault.... One of my most anticipated games of all time. Most of our views and opinions of games are based off our expectations and experiences with previous games. I really wish I could enjoy this game. I was ecstatic when this game was unveiled so many years ago. But for those that played the original Star Fox and Star Fox 64 PASSIONATELY know that this game missed on so many points. I have posted the Star Fox related reviews and have explained in many ways why this formula doesn't work. From the lack of multi-burst shots to the "floaty" ship controls to the painful walking missions and HORRIBLE dialog, this review was right on. Even after playing Star Fox 64 3DS and KNOWING it was still COMPLETELY unfinished, got me nervous about the game's future again. I have faith that 64 3DS will be great, but the controls on the game at it's E3 state didn't work right, but that was a demo, so no points against that. What we need is a AAA title with on-rails missions and 4 player Co-op, and massive ranked online multiplayer, one that would break barriers like when the original Star Fox debut 3D on the SNES and when SF64 brought us rumble. That's what makes these 2 games so special, they were like the first of their kind. It's still possible. And I think Nintendo knows that. There are obviously a lot of fans of the series and I think that Nintendo will realize this and give the series the justice that it deserves. And if Nintendo doesn't know where to start, I have it all done for you : )
@DAaaMan64- Yes, I would have to agree that Star Fox 2 is a superior game to command and yes, it's not EXACTLY the same as Command, I just mentioned that SF Command had roots used from SF2. Dylan Cuthbert (who worked on Star Fox, Star Fox 2 and Command ) said that Star Fox 2 inspired Command. Heck, the guy worked on those 3 games, how could he not? You can still have a game who's roots are based from another yet be different games. check his interview: http://videogames.yahoo.com/news-1150582
Ahh... this is a tough one. First off, good review, you did well. As a Star Fox super fan, I didn't really like the final product, although it was much better than Assault. First bone to pick: Depending on the resource you use, ( 8 or 12 MB, doesn't matter its a ridiculously small size ) is what is cited for the size of the game pak for Star Fox 64. 3 MB was used JUST for voice/audio. Pretty amazing. And it worked well, (yes, for the time). The DS cart can hold MUCH more and THERE is NO reason why there wasn't voice acting in this game. The next bone: controlled poorly. It was workable, but firing lasers was a chore. You also don't get a "multi-burst" shot like you do from SNES/ 64 versions. Those that have played the originals know that there is strategy as to how "fast" you hit the button to fire a laser, and to the noobs, it's not how fast you press the button, its the timing of when to hit it next. Flying felt very natural in 64, not this game. Last bone, but a small one: No definitive ending. The other games was to find the "real" Andross path, this game has Fox leaving and Krystal joining Star Wolf for good, Slippy owning a flower shop, and Falco playin' with his tooties, and so forth. Multiple endings, which I guess is smart to leave it open ended, but "fragmented". I will give the game credit for going back to the roots of Starfox 2, but then at the same time, maybe there was a reason that a finished game was never released in the US..... hmmmm..... ( I know Miyamoto said he wanted to go forth with "true 3D", but come on, the game was finished.) Anyways, I have the blueprint for how the next Star Fox game should be.... Maybe I'll give Shiggy a call....
An in-house made Star Fox Wii is what we need!! Come on Nintendo! Make it right! Online Co-op and leaderboards!! Voice Chat! Toasters! Give it your all in a new Star Fox! p.s. take out foot missions.
Think about it, this really makes sense. North America hasn't gotten a Black Wii because they are waiting to announce it for E3. But what's so special about that? Well it won't be any old black Wii, but will be an equivalent to a "Wii Plus". Meaning it will have HD and some other small extra goodie, using the current Wii tech. I know, I know, everyone at Nintendo says that there is no Wii HD....but come on, look at January 2006 when Nintendo denied a remodel of the DS, and oh look! 2 weeks later we get the DS lite. Same with a Wii price drop, they said it wouldn't happen in the near future, and look, 2 months later a price drop. It's coming people Wii with HD output.....NOT the successor to Wii.... just beautiful HD.......
@lz2010- Don't get me wrong, a new Star Fox game would be awesome for a handheld but after Assault and Command, I don't even won't Nintendo to risk it, unless of course they do it right. But then we can almost be guaranteed a remake of Star Fox 64 would be awesome.
@shadowAOD- Hey thanks, it's probably my favorite picture of Fox. They could have MULTIPLE control schemes that could work many ways, and I agree that a Wiimote and nunchuck would be great as well, I just hope they give us a lot of control options to choose from, when they release the new Star Fox Wii of course. And I think it would be a GREAT title to test the DLC waters with too....
@JimLad- Yeah, I would agree. They would have to REALLY pull it off perfectly though..... But I can really see that idea working for sure. It's just so frustrating that the characters controlled horribly in Assault multiplayer, but hey, tighten it up, add some balanced ship/walking mechanics and you have yourself a winning online multiplayer......Heck let's just make one our own!
@Acidfoxdyi831- love the enthusiasm, but Star Fox Assault is an ABOMINATION. horrible dialog ( I admit star fox 64 had some too ), crappy mechanics ( single burst shots instead of the SNES/64 standard triple-burst lasers and not to mention the arwing felt like I was contolling a paper airplane ) and ground missions!!!! Garbage!! What we need is a prequel/reboot of the series! One that tells James/Fox's stories! A game where "story mode" first player is fox, this person signs on to Nintendo WFC right away at the opening screen, then they start to play story mode, at any time, up to 3 people can join during story mode, slippy, peppy, falco right? Ok. when everyone plays, they see their own screen, and generally not the other characters too much. Like, think of a square. This square represents fox's screen or example playing regular starfox 64.... Then when other people come on, one "square" turns into 2, or if there are 4 people, then 4 "squares" now form together to form a giant "field" of one giant square. Here's the cool part. Scenario: one enemy base has a giant shild. To destroy the shield slippy or someone has to be in aquas to destroy a remote generator as well as falco who is in sector z perhaps to destroy the shield's satellite. HERE IS THE KICKER! for peppy and fox to destroy the shield, they have to activate a type of switch to let player 4 (slippy) who is underwater, to access the generator. In which falco (player 2) has only a minute to destroy the satellite in order to destroy enemy signal. In which fox and peppy HAVE to destroy the now unshielded weapon, or it destroys the great fox. And this is all happening in REAL time with 4-player online co-op.... Communicating with a headset....a SICK online with team leaderboards, perks, etc. No, not Assault though.

The only thing I wish they would have added was a menu button so I didn't have to go to the console every time to access the menu.
