Does the reviewer or anyoen else see this a little differently for the NA release, in that it is only 500 points? (The pirce was one of the review's gripes)
This is huge news for me, since those titles appeal to me and I have no idea what the retail launch looks like. Hmm, perhaps I will get this closer to launch than previously expected.
A collectionw ould be cool but I doubt they'd it amy better lol. Also, 2011 (1986 Famicom) is the 25th anniversary for Japan only, 2012 (1987 NES) is the 25th anniversary for NA and PAL.
Assuming it gets support through spring or so (it might even last a little longer than that) the DS will have had a lifespan of ~6.5 years, which is pretty good. Consoles and handhelds often only last 4-5 years.
@cheapogamer- Do this.Keep DSi until 3Ds comes out (dont waste $200 worth of games, wtf??). Whern it does, transfer and sell DSi on eBay for $100+ or sell to a friend or something for around there. I don't get why people trade in stuff to stores that rip them off SO badly.
Step one: make good, original JRPGs. They can borrow concepts and stylesa of course, but they need something cool to make them stand out, be worth playing. Examples include: story/premise, gameplay mechanic, battle setup/style, other.
Step two: release it in NA/give it to me to consume. I will let you know what needs work and what you are doing right.
I like achievements and trophies a lot. I wonder how many people complaining/neutral on them have significantly played with or worked towards them. There are indeed, many of them that are a litle pointless. But some of them are quite clever (especially the fun names) and I don't want to see Ninty continue to ignore a feature that its competitors are using and successfully at that. It could be that one thing that makes someone get a game for the PS4 instead of the Wii2, if everything else is about equal.
@truewiimaster-the music comment was based on DSi. I'm pretty sure they haven't yet confirmed all music details for 3DS. -Keep in mind, I know about the movies (in 3D) eventually coming for 3DS. But if they are a seperate, full-priced deal, then the itouch is a better way to go since you get digital copies for free and they work on multiple devices (computer AND i-whatever.) 3DS movies will likely be full-priced and don't run on anything else, unlike DVDs and Digital Copies. -Yes there is tons of junk on the app store. But there is more great games on it than the DSiWare shop. And no, most of the great DSiWare games do not fall in that cheap range, they are 500 to 1200 points (twice as much.) Still great deals for what they are, but not quite able to compete with App Store.
I, of course, would love for Nintendo to turn the table with this platform on all the points I am making. I WANT the 3DS to be amazing/the best. But so far, I'm not sold. Not just yet.
@odnetnin-i think thats what he was going for. Pachter: you are wrong. not in your opinion, but in that you think NA would accept such a price point. If Ninty did that, they surely would have had to drop the price before summer and it would have looked really bad. Now the 3DS won't see a price drop for at least a year (when the Lite version comes out. (My predictions.) @truewiimaster-what can the itouch/iphone do that the DSi/3DS can't? Play music (in a format people actually use,) play movies (already purchased for computer and/or that come for free with movies with "digital copies") and have some solid to great games usually for $1-5. That's actually 3 really important advantages to the system.
i'll follow this for a good portion of the afternoon, then
Guessing between $200 and 250USD for NA, with a mid to late March release. Launch lineup will be 8 games or (likely) less and there will only be 1 or 2 games even worth considering picking up lol.
How much? (System, games, downloads) Battery life, when 3D is not used. (is it the same as the quoted DS game battery life?) Launch lineup? (NA and EUR) Will it comes with a game/"game"/demo? (Wii and DS did)
In related news, I have no plans to give Nintendo money in 2011, lol. I'm really hoping they bring this over or let someone else bring it over (Square, ATLUS, whomever) because I'm tired of seeing great titles (Fatal Frame, Disaster, Another Code 2) never get released here.
DAMN. Seriously, I import games the most often on DS (largely because it IS region-free, but also because there are a handful of import-friendly games that never make it over.)
This is a large factor for likely waiting for the Lite model. Considering what it's doing, that's decent battery life. But it's not acceptable for a device, really. It needs to last that DS portion (5-8) for 3DS games, IMHO.
lol at me not picking up any of these "best" games. The only one I have is Runner, which was gifted/traded to me. To be honest, Nintendo had a really solid year but I still think it lost ground to the other systems. PS3 had a great year, especially, in quality software (including exclusives.) Add to that the inexplicable success of Kinect and Move and I think Wii has a lot to prove in 2011. And with only Skyward Sword from Nintendo (which just looks like a rehash of Ocarina+Windwaker so far to me) I'm really hoping they prove me wrong.
O_B's Small List of Lazy Awards: BEST DS Game of the year: Golden Sun: Dark Dawn (there you go, Feenie) Biggest Disappointment: Ace Attorney Investigations (lol) Game that improved and also didn't: NMH2
"this upcoming title is set to change things up a bit with a new setting, new look and all-new cast of collectible creatures"
Pretty much every core title does that. Which is why I'm probably not getting this one, it really isn't doing much that hasn't been done. Graphics upgrade in battle make it look like it's finally a GBA or SNES game.
Totally getting this right now. Thanks for the speedy review, Corbs.
@CHRIS-welcome. i agree that Super Metroid is a great place to start. Storywise it is "Metroid 3", with 1 and 2 being Metroid (NES) and Metroid II (GB) and 4 being Metroid Fusion (GBA.) The other Metroid games, like the Prime Trilogy and the recent Other M, fit in around said timeline.
I saw this earlier this month and yeah,I really want it localized. I'm not holding out for it to happen, though. Still crying over Fatal Frame. And Disaster. Not really related, but I still want that game.
It wasn't my first Nintendo system, but it was the first one i got for Christmas. December 2001: The Nintendo Gamecube. When I opened the wrapping and saw that my grandparents had gotten that, I pretended to faint. It was funny, because they all thought I was gonna hit my head on the fireplace. It was less funny because I almost did, but whatever, I got a freakin' Gamecube! Eventually I got a PS2 which had more games but the GCN still remains one of my favorite systems.
Wait, so the version with less content is going to take months longer to release? I'm sorry, that doesn't make sense. Might as well join the crowd skipping WW rather than give us more lesser versions.

Re: Wii Unlikely to Catch a Traditional Pokemon RPG Title
You could at least try. It's pretty obvious no one has done so with the existing WIi titles.
Re: Features: Games That Should Already Be on Virtual Console
Yeah, thats a huge list of unreleased content. Why the hell haven't we seen it? I don't know, but I doubt we will (see most, if not any.)

Re: Super Mario All-Stars 25th Anniversary Edition Gets an Extra Life
And now I can laugh at those who bought it at inflated eBay prices in the last 2 months.

Re: Hudson Entertainment Closes its Doors, Cancels its Projects
It's always sad to see a gaming company go down.
I didn't buy many of their games (like 2-3 that I can think of) but they were pretty solid and so I salute their sinking ship.
As for people asking about Mario Party, it's not like we've gotten one in a couple years anyway, lol.
Re: Mario Sports Mix Giveaway!
Seriously, I expected the results article a few days ago.

@wariowoods-start with Fire-red/LeafGreen,HeartGold/SoulSilver, those are probably the best ones.

I heard that this might be developed by Monolith Soft, which would be super-sweet.
