This game is incredible. When I played it on my GameBoy for the very first first time, I felt an overwhelming rush of nostalgia. To this day, no other game has done that to me. The atmosphere is full of mystery and wonder, despite the silly, picture book presentation. This was just a fun diversion that wasn't supposed to be an epic adventure like its predecessors, but it became one anyway.
1. Supporting the developers (I haven't bought the Wii or DS version) 2. This version is going to have new content (same reason I'm not getting OoT 3D) 3. If this does well, there could be a sequel
@Square-enixFan: Yes, it's been revealed in an interview.
@xDemon720x: Actually, this is supposed to have new content that wasn't in the original, while OoT 3D only has a few minor additions like Boss Rush mode.
This version is supposed to have a bunch of stuff that was pulled from the original. I haven't bought the WiiWare or DSiWare version, so I might get this even though I played the original.
@warioswoods: I actually like the villain's design. When I saw him in the GDC trailer, my first thought was actually "OMG Vaati!", and that would even make sense with what we know about the game. Link looks nearly identical to his Twilight Princess character design, which is fine with me.
What you quoted from the E3 page is exactly what I wanted to see in this trailer. I hope they show more soon.
@TeeJay: If you were going to do something over again, you wouldn't want to make the same mistakes you made the first time, would you? And if remakes aren't supposed to be different, why on earth wouldn't people just buy the original? And if that is the case, what's the difference between that and a port?
Yes, Ocarina of Time had shortcomings. It was revolutionary in one sense, but in another it destroyed what made Zelda games awesome in the first place.
@NetrackSteven64: I don't really care whether or not it's better, because it's not worth an extra $30. Like TBD said, the game hasn't been changed at its core, and that means all of the original's shortcomings are still there.
@thebluelight1: But SM64 DS didn't have analogue input, the graphics were about the same, and it had new content, but a lot of it replaced old stuff. You're right, though. This is really just a tech demo craftily disguised by nostalgia.
Looks like it's more than a port, but less than a remake.
@theblackdragon: There was a jump button in Zelda II. I don't think a jump "button" would be the best way to do it. How about a 3D game with Roc's Feather?
I couldn't care less when it's coming, I just want to know what it'll bring. As far as I know, they haven't announced anything that's worth getting overly excited about, and I probably won't even use the eShop until I run out of stuff to do offline, anyway.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't HD consoles require you to install the contents of discs onto the hard drive? (I'm pretty sure I read that about the PS3) Unless this is true of the Wii's successor, why do we need that much space? Besides, #29 is right. This won't be a problem if they use cloud storage.
@37: If you're talking about when the next console is released, they'll probably have a system transfer feature.
I don't see why this is a big deal. I was expecting all the next-gen consoles to use flash memory anyway. At this point, I'd be very surprised if Nintendo used a traditional HDD.
@42: That's what I thought at first, but I'm guessing it's not a perfect translation. If that really is what he means, this could be the best thing that ever happened to Zelda.
@41: It wasn't really a remake. More like a direct port.
As I've said before, I only like remakes if they feel really different from the original because of big changes that would not have been possible before. At this point, ALttP is the only Zelda game I want to see remade, and only if it isn't top-down. Hearing this for the second time frightens me. First they re-release a polished version of OoT, and now he wants to do the same for ALttP without any radical changes.
@AlexSays: Two Zelda remakes so close together for the same system is really disappointing, but if they end up doing ALttP in true 3D instead of top-down, I can forgive them. That's what they should have done in the first place, and I'm tired of waiting for a 3D Zelda that puts the series back on track.
Don't let me down, Skyward Sword!
I don't have a problem with remakes as long as they feel like a new experience, and I doubt they'll be able to do that with any Zelda game that was 3D to begin with.
Could this have anything to do with Aonuma wanting to remake ALttP in 3D?
Hearing this is actually kind of disappointing for me. The way he's saying it makes it sound like the game would still be top-down, like Phantom Hourglass.
@Bass X0: Getting a game over just means you have to restart the level.
Also, Mega Man X would have been terrible if it were anything like a Metroid game, and comparing them like that ridiculous. Two games having a genre in common doesn't mean they are (or should be) the same experience.
@49: My reaction would be an instant coma. Upon waking, I would think it was just a dream, then when I found out it wasn't, my mind would be blown into thousands of fragments. Thanks a lot, Retro Studios.
I want them to either work on a new IP or bring back another abandoned game, but not Star Fox.
@1&6: That's something I haven't heard in a while. But wait, there's already a Zelda game in development. They could probably make it work, though. These are the guys behind Metroid Prime.
"[...] it doesn't even seem like the developers were entirely sure what they were going for here."
Even the title doesn't fit. I read "Playing with Birds" on the front page and assumed it was a Pet Sim.
@7: Unfortunately, this happens a lot. Sometimes I think that by "quality control" they really mean "colorful screenshots that will attract kids". Or maybe they just look at the screenshots and try to guess what the actual game is like.
Edit: @Tj92: I'm guessing it depends on how many people actually buy the game. But when a game is this bad, I wonder if the developers even tested it themselves.
When I say "obsolete", I don't mean old fashioned or retro. The first generation games were great, but they had lots of flaws. Second generation added a lot, but they didn't fix many of the problems. I was fine with that, but I wanted them to reform the series in generation 3. They didn't, and the experience was starting to get stale (at least for me). Every new game feels less and less like a sequel and more like an expansion pack. I was really disappointed in generation 4, and I decided not to buy another game until they do something radically different instead of retreading the same ground with more detail.
Is that why the PSP has been reduced to competing with iPhone games?
This guy needs to understand that you can't make a game good by simply giving the main character a gun and rendering everything with photo-realistic gore.
Assuming this isn't a joke, a 3DS retail release for "BIT.TRIP Collection" plus new content and maybe even a new game (prequel?) would be an instant buy for me.
I find this amusing, considering that buying Angry Birds won't even get you a "piece of plastic". Besides, all the special editions will eventually add up and be more expensive than a console game. Why is it better to buy something that doesn't have a physical copy?
I can't wait for this! I was exited for the WiiWare version when it was announced, but I couldn't stand the wait, so I downloaded the freeware game. By the time the WiiWare game was out, I had already finished the original, and couldn't justify buying it. I want to support them, though, so I'll definitely get this, now that they're fully remaking it.

Re: Features: A View from Hyrule Field
Hyrule Field felt really out of place in a Zelda game. The series was better when it was about exploration.

3. If this does well, there could be a sequel

Re: Miyamoto: "3DS Could Be a Convenient Wii U Controller"
@Pj1: Actually, you can use a DS with a Wii. It's just that there are hardly any games that take advantage of it.
Re: Miyamoto: "3DS Could Be a Convenient Wii U Controller"
@Hardy83: Oh, of course not. I'm guessing the developers will have to optimize 3DS support for their games.
Re: Miyamoto: "3DS Could Be a Convenient Wii U Controller"
This is the second time he's mentioned it, so I think it will probably happen.
Re: Looks Like That Red 3DS is Releasing in Japan
Flare Red looks better than Cosmo Black, but Aqua Blue is still my favorite.
I wish they had purple at launch. D:

Re: New Trailer for Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Lies In Wait
@Capt_N: People figured out about Zelda's Lullaby just a few days after the GDC trailer. I don't think it was in Twilight Princess, though.

Re: New Super Mario Bros. Mii Screenshots Gleam in HD
@mariofanatic128: Yeah, I can't image many people would. It seems kind of pointless, unless you can make a Mii that looks more like Mario than Mario.

@8&13: Zelda wasn't in the trailer, was she?
Re: Paper Mario in Motion is a Many Splendoured Thing
I was hoping to see some new partners.
Re: This Video of Kirby Wii Does Not Suck
I'm excited for the multiplayer, but other than that I think Kirby is starting to get stale. I'd love it if the next one was a 3D platformer.
Re: New Trailer for Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Lies In Wait
That was awesome, but what I'm most excited/worried about is the overworld. I hope we get a good example of its design soon.
