Re: Feature: Staff Roundtable - Metroid's Past, Present and Future

@armoredghor: Samus had much more character depth in Fusion than she did in Other M.

And about Prime 3's ending, Dark Samus wouldn't be able to exist after the destruction of Phaaze. She/it doesn't care about the Space Pirates, either. The only thing Dark Samus wants is for the universe to be consumed by phazon corruption. The ship at the end is most likely Sylux's, meant to lead into Metroid Prime Hunters.

Re: Talking Point: The Future of Metroid

@Link79: Are you joking? The only times I died were when I wasn't mashing buttons. Normal enemies can't hit Samus as long as you keep tapping the D-pad, and the instant-charge-while-dodging + auto-aim prevents the combat from having any strategic depth.

I wasn't expecting another Super Metroid or Metroid Prime, but I also wasn't expecting it to make Fusion look like a four-dimensional M.C. Escher maze. I thought Fusion was pretty linear for a Metroid game, but Other M hardly ever gives you a chance to go anywhere but your next destination. There wasn't a single time where I had to stop and think about what I should be doing, and there was never anything I needed to figure out. All you do is shoot whatever gets in your way.

Re: Talking Point: The Future of Metroid

Meta-Rift

@Link79: I'm not going to start an argument about Samus's massive character shift from Fusion to Other M, but Metroid isn't about shooting aliens. I can't stand it when people say "Other M haters just don't want Samus to have a personality", because that's not why I hate it. I hate it because it's a Metroid-themed shoot 'em up with button-mashing gameplay.

Re: Feature: Staff Roundtable - Metroid's Past, Present and Future

@MiracleBlaze: Metroid Prime is meant to be a trilogy. "Metroid Prime 4" will never happen because there's nothing left to link the story back to the first three games. When I say "Metroid Prime is dead", I mean that Samus killed the creature that the game is named after and got rid of Dark Samus along with all the Phazon in the universe.

I'm looking forward to a third-person Metroid game that doesn't resemble the Prime trilogy or Other M. Wii U is the perfect opportunity for a game like that.

@armoredghor: "And plus before Other M Nintendo wasn't doing ANYTHING as a character with samus. They didn't change what Nintendo had set her up for because she hadn't been set up for anything."

Are you kidding? Other M is definitely not the first game that clearly portrays Samus's character.

Re: Review: Metroid Prime (GameCube)

Meta-Rift

@50: I think it's because people associated "first-person" with "shooter", and didn't like the idea of Metroid becoming a shooter. (Which, ironically, is exactly what happened with Other M.)

Re: New 3DS System Update Warns You About Piracy

Meta-Rift

@Scypher: Yeah, I don't buy this for a second. I think they said something similar during the Wii launch, too. Bricking a system is getting into the grey area of what they have the right to do. They can probably stop providing additional services, but I really doubt they would get away with preventing a product from working as advertised without some kind of lawsuit. I haven't heard of anyone's 3DS getting bricked yet, either.

Re: Preview: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

@BetelgeuseWC77: I was thinking that, too, but this is before Ganondorf tried to get the Triforce. I hope Ghirahim isn't just a puppet. The series has already done that so many times, and I'd hate to see them cast aside another perfectly good villain.

Re: Preview: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Meta-Rift

@lockelocke: All of that is done with MotionPlus this time.

@ Everyone saying Ghirahim looks ridiculous: From the E3 battle footage, I noticed he looks better in-game. Regardless of character design, his animations (body language, subtle gestures, particle effects, etc.) gave him a lot of personality, and his dialogue was good enough to convince me that he'll be the best villain in the series. All those factors that went into his character are incredibly well done.

Re: Preview: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

@yoyogamer: Well, I think it'll top them in every way that we've been shown so far. The thing is that they haven't shown what I consider the most important part: the world below the clouds. Skyloft is supposed to be like the great sea, though, so I guess that aspect is just as good as Twilight Princess.

Re: Rumour: Kid Icarus: Uprising to Miss 2011 in Europe

Meta-Rift

@Gavin_Rozee: I can see why some people don't like the art direction, but it doesn't look very generic to me. I think it was a good idea for them to design the game to resemble Brawl's aesthetics. I do agree that some enemies are pretty generic, but most of them are faithful to the original games and certainly don't look bad.

If they plan on continuing the Kid Icarus franchise, I'd like to see them experiment with different art styles like they do in the Zelda games. They would definitely come up with something better, but I think this was the right way to go for a game that was meant to bring the series back.

Re: Zelda is No Longer Royalty in Skyward Sword

Meta-Rift

@xDemon720x: This doesn't really change anything, we still don't know if Skyward Sword takes place before or after Minish Cap. It's not going to shatter any timeline theories, either, because we already know it comes before OoT.

@SilverBaretta: My first reaction was actually "Vaati's back!" At first I was disappointed to find out he's not Vaati, but after seeing the demo footage from this E3, I'm convinced that Ghirahim will be the best villain in the series.

Re: Zelda is No Longer Royalty in Skyward Sword

Meta-Rift

@mariofanatic128: It's possible that Minish Cap takes place first, but no one really knows. Reoccurring characters like Link and Zelda are reincarnated in most of the games, so this isn't the same Link as the one in Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, etc.

Re: Iwata Tells Shareholders "Core Gamers Will Accept Wii U"

Meta-Rift

@warnerdan: Agreed. That's the most sensible thing I've heard all day.

Nintendo has expressed that they're making an effort to regain third-party support. That will definitely help, and multiplatform games will be easy to make on all three consoles. The problem is that for the average gamer, there's still no reason to buy a Wii U if they can already play all these games on their PS3/360. In order to market the system to these people, the Wii U needs to have both multiplatform games and third-party exclusives.

Re: Sony: Wii U is No Threat, Says "Welcome to 2006, Nintendo"

Meta-Rift

LOL, Sony PR is the only news that gets this many comments. I have a hard time believing he actually thinks all the stuff he says is true. If he did, then he would be Sony's biggest problem. The Wii U definitely has its work cut out for it, but his pretentious, condescending attitude makes him sound like a little kid saying "Sony > Nintendo" who doesn't really know what he's talking about. I mean, I'd have a little more respect for him if he actually presented an argument instead of dismissing their competition without a second thought.
