It kind of seems so weird to me to see New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe so high, more copies sold here than total Wii U systems sold.
Like I get that Mario Kart 8 (and Breath of the Wild, pretty much) are also both Wii U remakes, and I get that the 'New' Super Mario Bros. brand always did well, but there's something about it that just seems like a relic in this list. Especially after was Wonder released.
You would hope there's no risk of stick drift, I'm still kind of shocked they let the issue go on throughout the whole Switch lifespan as they did, it's honestly not acceptable to have an issue like that be so common.
I was hoping for hall-effect sticks, maybe it's not the case if they haven't mentioned it, Nintendo seem to be going into more technical details with this reveal than they normally do so I'd have thought they'd mention it. There's lots of much cheaper emulation handhelds getting released with hall-effect, so I wouldn't have thought it would be a problem for Nintendo to implement, but if these new sticks are reliable and feel good to use then that's all that matters, whether they're hall-effect or not.
After not being as keen on the 3DS entries' 3D models after the hand drawn sprites of the DS games, I'm happy with the look of the overworld in this game. It has a lot of character and texture while maintaining a cartoonish charm.
The Layton series was one of the most important to me growing up, so seeing it come back in a way that speaks to what was great about those games is so exciting!
@Pod Yeah this was very reminiscent of an Iwata Asks, used to love those. Makes me a little sad...
Ah well, it certainly is fascinating to read these. Video games as an art form do sometimes feel like they've been magicked out of the air, so understanding the actual thinking behind them is great.
@gaga64 @NintonicGamer Yeah and Miyamoto does let other designers have a lot of freedom when it comes to the series he's created. For pretty much every Mario, Zelda etc. for ages he's had more of a supervisor role.
@AlphaJaguar Yeah I see where you're coming from with that. Miyamoto is still afforded a lot of creative control though, whereas Lucas has had all of his ideas for the new Star Wars films shot down by Disney.
They've definitely both still got a lot to give to their respective art forms in my opinion regardless.
@Gorlokk @TheHumbleFellow These guys get it, this is a reasonable launch. Bear in mind on top of that two facts. Firstly the Switch is launching in March. Not the best time for games releases and so you could argue that it shouldn't launch then but I think a bit of time in the market will help it build a presence before Christmas. That helped the 3DS which did poorly initially (granted Nintendo also axed the price there).
Secondly not many developers, Nintendo included, want their games to compete directly with a new Zelda game on a new console. Of course it's coming to Wii U too but that's still pretty intimidating for developers.
I would say looking at this first yeah as a whole I'm confident that come Christmas the Switch will have a strong line up, and so if you don't think it's worth buying yet then just wait.

@Mogster Yeah, I remember him from Official Nintendo Magazine, those were the days. I was wondering if anyone else would recognise him!
