This is disappointing. I was hoping for an all new Captain Toad game. I loved it on Wii U, but I don't think I'll be playing another port of another Wii U game I've already played, even if they added a couple of new stages.
Interestingly, there's some people who want even more Open World Sandox-type of games. I get it, people like open games, but we just had two of them, do we need a Sandox type of game for every Nintendo franchise all at once? Really?
I remember when Tropical Freeze was released everyone was mad, because they wanted Retro to make Metroid. Well, Metroid is in development, I honestly have no clue what Retro is working on, but I'm pretty sure if Retro makes another DKC 2D platformer there's a fair share of people who'd hate on it - even though Retro is not even involved in Prime 4.
Personally, I've just had one amazing Open World Zelda earlier this year, an amazing open Sandox Mario last week and in all honesty I seriously need a change and get me some nice tight 2D platforming. Unlike Yoshi or Kirby, DKC actually offers something that's lost in a lot of Nintendop franchises: difficulty. I just love a great 2D platformer with a bite to it and DKC delivers on that front. Sure, I can get by on Super Meat Boy, but I love me some good old DK any day.
I saw a pile of Switches already halfway sold at my local multimedia store last week. First of all, that was the first time I saw Switches for sale in a store, it was like finding Atlantis: it DOES exist! XD From the looks of it, it was already halfway sold, there must've been a lot more units, but since they weren't restocking to keep the pile up (like they do with PS4), I'm pretty certain that must've been their stock at the moment and I'm also pretty certain it's been sold out a while ago. Switches still sell fast, but at least you see them every once in a while now. I hope Nintendo can get more units out for holiday season.
@Reignmaker Why confusing company? This game was in development way before the Switch launched at a time when nobody could possibily foresee the success the system is currently facing. The 3DS was what helped Nintendo to get through the tough times when the Wii U was loosing them lots of money and was very much alive when the Switch was released half a year ago. Unlike the Wii U dropping the 3DS immediately with the release of the Switch, would've been a very bad idea, because in case of bad Switch sales this high profile game on 3DS would've made Nintendo very precious money. Therefore it's very much understandable this is an exclusive 3DS game and not one for Switch.
Furthermore, the developer studio from Spain has other projects going on, so asking for an HD Switch port is not going to happen immediatly, if Nintendo is actually interested in doing that.
However, I think this entire discussion and the amount of people asking for a Switch port, clearly shows that the 3DS might just be Nintendos last dedicated handheld system and NIntendo can't support the Switch and a dedicated handheld system at the same time, because the Switch is competing successfully in the handheld market. Therefore two Nintendo hardware systems are currently competing against each other, which is not a very ideal situation and since the Switch is Nintendos future-plan the 3DS will most likely see the end of it's lifetime now after many very successfull years and it's questionable if Nintendo will follow with a new dedicated handheld system.
@JaxonH I agree, people need to put their wallets where their mouths were the entire time while they were screaming for Metroid. Now it's the time to show support. If anything, disappointing sales will help to prevent a slighly possible Switch port. If anyone wants to play this game, they better buy it for 3DS or might never play it.
I personally don't believe in a Switch port either. How often did full-priced first party Nintendo dedicated handheld games with a physical release get ported to a home console of the same generation? I believe the chances of this happening to Samus Returns are barely existent.
I really want to like this, but... it DOES feel like Ubisoft is just trying to cash in quickly with this game and Nintendo users are the ones who get screwed over again. Compressing the game so much you're forced to suffer through 10+ seconds of loading times essentially making it the longest loading times on any console - including a dedicated handheld, is nothing but a sad joke. It's definately nice to have more space left after the download when you're going full digital, but the question is if it's actually worth it. Ubisoft obviously did this to cut down the costs for the cartridges, but for that reason I would actually expect the game to be cheaper. I'm not paying 40€ for a game I already own on Wii U with worse framerate performances and longer loading times (and some missing features, but I'm not playing platformers multiplayer, so it doesn't bother me at all). 30€, maybe, because it's a good game, but 40€? Nope.
I'm just a little bit worried, because I've read quite a lot about people not buying this game hoping it will come to Switch one day, which might influence the sales figures negatively. By all means, this game deserves to sell well.
I'm enjoying my Switch a lot and have a long list of games I'm planning to buy for it - a list that is longer than my entire library of Wii U games. Even though I've really liked this console right from the start when I got it at launch as my Zelda-machiene, it was actually at Gamescom this year, where it really shined. You see, I get to work by bike and usually don't have that many opportunities to use handheld mode. If you've ever been at Gamescom you know you'll be doing one thing much more than anything else: waiting in line. So far my 3DS kept me entertained and as much as I love that thing, I have to admit: nothing beats waiting in line for Super Mario Odyssey for 3 hours while playing Spatoon 2 - a game people are waiting in line for right next to you for to 2 hours. Even though I always had my 3DS with me at Gamescom, I have to admit with my Switch I've never been bothered less by hours of waiting in line. I also have to admit some people waiting in line with me somewhere not-Nintendo (NiNoKuni 2 for example - great game, btw) were incredibly curious about my Switch and were watching me play the entire time. xD
I know I'll never be using handheld mode that much, but I also know I'll deeply appreciate it when I do. With my 3DS in toe I have access to my entire catalouge of games on the go, which is amazing.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE To be fair, that's kind of their job: finding out what customers didn't knew they wanted and giving it to them. That's how you drive the industry forwards.
Nintendo has always been amazing at downsizing their games. Remember when Iwata himself was asked to downsize Pokemon gold and silver so it would fit onto the cartridge and he did such a good job they had enough additional space left to fit the Kanto region on there as well. Breath of the Wilds download size is less than 14GB. The game is definately not the most demanding, but that's still not too bad. Has anyone here played Final Fantasy VX? On the original Playstation, I mean. This game came with 4 CDs and if you finished the game, you played through all 4 CDs in order. I gladly take downloading part of a game over switching CDs mid-game any day.
@OorWullie Pokemon is a mega seller. It's the second best selling franchise in the world (only second to Mario) and this only includes the games themselves. No matter what it is: print Pikachu on it, it's going to sell. Pokemon is a money printing machiene. A mainline Pokemon on Switch will probably have an impact we can't even imagine, because we never had it before, but everyone's been asking for it for over 20 years. Nintendo has a lot of hot games comming to Switch, but Pokemon Switch could become a game changer.

Re: Capcom Classic Okami HD Stalks Its Way To Switch This Summer
I don't care how much they want for it.... TAKE MY MONEY!
Seriously, this announcement was overdue. I need this game in my life... on my Switch.
Re: Feature: Vote For Your 2017 Nintendo Life Game of the Year
Hm... Zelda, Zelda, or Zelda? I think I'll vote for Zelda.

I'm praying it's Donkey Kong Country. I love this franchise to death, it's my favorite platformer. Tropical Freeze was so damn good.

Re: Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Pokémon Steal the Show at the Japan Game Awards 2017
Of course. It's Open World Zelda. It's going to battle the GotY awards out with Mario Odyssey.
