The sad thing is that I could certainly imagine more companies backing out of Virtual Console support. Why bother if Nintendo's going to potentially take months to make them available even after they're completely ready to go?

"As for the VC in general, I'd like to ask a few question to all of you complainers who don't like the 1 game a week thing. How many VC games do you own?"
68.
"Maybe while this slowdown is going on you should look back through the massive catalog and play some games you may have missed."
I haven't missed anything. If I'm remotely interested in something, I buy it.
"Also who wants to download more than one game per week? I know I don't. I hate it when two games I'm wanting both come out and then I have to decide."
If I want two games, I don't choose; I just buy both. (Or all three, in the case of that glorious May 21st of 2007.) Virtual Console games range from 10% to 20% the price of a retail game; buying two of them at once isn't going to empty my wallet. The only concern is having enough Wii Points, but I almost always have some remaining in advance--and if I don't, I'll just buy more with debit. (The one really smart move Nintendo made with online this gen: NOT tying your financial information to the system like Microsoft.)
"So c'mon people. If VC was releasing 5 games a week I'm sure you same people would be complaining that they're releasing too many games!"
No I wouldn't, since there are at least 80 more VC games that could be released that I'd buy. Just from NES alone I'd buy Adventures of Lolo 3, Blaster Master, Bubble Bobble Part 2, Castlevania III (I'm in North America), Crystalis, Fire 'N' Ice, Gargoyle's Quest II, Mega Man 4, Mega Man 5, Mega Man 6, and Terra Cresta, never mind what Genesis and SNES could offer me. Tons of untapped potential for retro fans and 2D fans like me.
"2. If one of your party members were to die, will there be no way to revive them for the rest of the game like in Fire Emblem?"
You can revive them for a very cheap price. I'm not sure about the overall difficulty, but if you die on a stage you get to keep all your experience gains, level gains, item gains, and money when you try again, so I think you should be fine.
About some of the comments in here, there's no such thing as too many of a certain genre as far as I'm concerned. As long as the games are good, I'll never get tired of genres that I like; I only get tired of genres that I don't like.
More fighting games? Well, I don't want them, but if there are good ones then I'll say "great" for fighting game fans and I'll say it was a positive step for Virtual Console as a whole.
More shooters? Well, that's great for me. I already have thirteen of them and I won't be stopping as long as the ones I want keep coming. I'm still hoping for at least thirty-two more shooters, in fact, and beyond that there are still a couple more which I'm iffy about.
I'd also buy RPGs and top-down adventure games on VC all day long if I could. If they released Crystalis, Mother, Shining Force: The Sword of Hajya, Dragon Slayer, Ys Book I & II, Shining Force II, Warsong, Earthbound, EVO: The Search For Eden, Illusion of Gaia, Secret of Mana, Shadowrun, Soul Blazer, Super Mario RPG, and Terranigma all over the next ten to twelve weeks, I'd download all of them--and I'd be really freaking delighted about it, too.
In short (yeah, I know, ironic thing to be saying after all these paragraphs, etc.), I won't feel overloaded on a genre as long as the quality games keep coming, and those quality games will always be quality to me no matter how quickly they're released one after another. (Others may feel differently, obviously.)
I have exactly 1700 points on my Wii right now, so if the 4th really brings Ys and the 11th really brings Star Parodier, that'll be a perfect use. After a twelve-week stretch of buying nothing between River City Ransom and Gley Lancer + Super Fantasy Zone, I've almost started daring to hope that VC's going to get back on track. It's not without reason that TG16 has been the cornerstone of Virtual Console to me so far, and maybe that can continue!
It's pretty deliciously rare to find a top ten list that I can actually agree with, but here we go. I wanted all of those games except Parodius (not really a fan of the Gradius-style gameplay here), Panorama Cotton (not a fan of that style either), and Pop'n Twinbee (which only missed out on my interest list because I didn't know it existed; I did want Detana!! Twinbee, but this looks even better). Great stuff here.
Ever since Ys Book I & II first got ESRB-rated and I checked out a video of it, I was blown away by the music. A year or so later and I've rewatched a bunch of videos some crazy number of times and the soundtrack still never fails to impress. So. Flipping. Good! ^^
I have the Genesis Collection on PSP, but whenever this game shows up I'll still give serious consideration to downloading it. Phantasy Star IV really is an excellent RPG, and the VC emulation will probably be a step up above what Sega managed with PSP, so--yeah, I'll definitely think about it.
Ha--I've been hoping for a certain import TG16 shooter for a while (Star Parodier) and a certain Genesis game for a while (Shining Force II), but instead this week met me at the halfway point. Two import Genesis shooters for North America which individually I didn't want nearly as much as SP or SFII--but together they do make for a pretty good week, and so I'm happy for the first time since April. _ Gley Lancer and Super Fantasy Zone are both pretty good, though I definitely love Super Star Soldier, Soldier Blade, and Lords of Thunder quite a bit more than either one. SFZ does win some bonus points sheerly for its fantastic use of color, though; definitely haven't seen that anywhere else on VC as far as shooters go.
Now to just hope that Star Parodier makes next Monday. It's honestly a bit worrisome to think about how it could possibly be that they didn't know the release date for their own game... :/ Did Nintendo change its mind at the last minute, or did Nintendo spread misinformation to Hudson, or did Hudson spread misinformation through its website, or--well, you see my point. No matter what the explanation is, it probably doesn't bode well.
One of only two VC shooters I've actually been able to beat (the other being Super Star Soldier), and certainly my favorite horizontal shooter to date on Virtual Console--or anywhere else, for that matter, but I haven't played too many horizontal shooters.
It's a bit of a shame that the sound effects completely overpower the otherwise-awesome music, but the weapon-switching mechanic makes this one very enjoyable game.
More enjoyable than Blazing Lazers and Gradius III, but I'd still have to give the nod to Super Star Soldier, Soldier Blade, Gate of Thunder, and R-Type III. Only six levels is a bit of a drag, but the music is really pretty rocking, so it works out.

Re: USA VC Release - Earthworm Jim
One game weeks inherently suck even when I actually like the game that's been released. Choice and variety are good things. :/

Re: OFLC Update: Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse (NES)
It'd be nice if they manage to release this for NA on October 13th or 20th to lead up to Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia.
Re: EU VC Releases: DoReMi Fantasy and Ys Book I & II
Good to see you all finally got DoReMi Fantasy. An excellent platformer there.
Re: Drake's Ratings Roundup - August 2008
Need Shining Force II so much.
Re: TurboGrafx-16 Releases - September
Super Star Soldier, Soldier Blade, and Star Parodier all made me very happy, so Final Soldier will be a natural definite purchase.
Re: USA VC Releases: Ys Book I & II and Samurai Shodown II
And thus we finally, finally returned to a week of two beloved games simultaneously.
Re: USA VC Releases: Mega Man and Neo Turf Masters
I'd rather play Mega Man 1 on PSP, but cool news for those who wouldn't. Now to wait on Ys.

Re: USA VC Update: Sonic (Master System) and Splatterhouse 2
Oh, look. Nintendo fails at marketing and establishing good third-party relationships yet again. :/

I definitely hope that Hudson and Nintendo have their news straight this time, since I so want Star Parodier and Ys Book I & II. ;_;
