I have no affection for JRPGs. I prefer my games to have actual substance rather than glossy cutscenes and 'epic' narratives. As a genre JRPGs are a complete disaster in design philosophy. If Sakaguchi wants to try and remedy the situation then all the best to him but considering his track record I'm not holding out any hopes for Last Story. I think it will be released in the west, but unless he does something really revolutionary with it then I’ll probably give it a miss.
This whole 60hz thing is really frustrating. There's no good reason for us to be paying for shoddy PAL conversions in this decade. There's no way I'm paying for Iron Clad or MUSHA just to end up with some mutilated imitation of what they should be. They can't get rid of 50hz soon enough.
Castlevania: Bloodlines - we need it desperately. Aside from that the SEGA Mega Drive Collection has pretty much killed all my ideas, so to be honest before SEGA start releasing any more games I'd rather they sorted out the problem with the PAL slowness/ borders on import titles; the only thing putting me off buying MUSHA.
To be honest, it baffles me that everyone is so hung up about the score; I feel sorry for reviewers who have to find a way to convert their opinion into a numerical figure; it's a bizzare system that's never going to be 100% reliable and should therefore not be taken so seriously.
I'm not tremendously enthusiastic about this change. I can understand the attraction in making scores out of 10 rather than 5, for accuracy, but that becomes pretty meaningless when you consider how heavily personal opinion will influence the decision of whether a game is worthwhile. In the face of this ratings mean nothing and by focusing more on them with an increased range it only serves to distract from the actual points of the review.
Also:
1 star = 1 or 2/10 2 stars = 3 or 4/10 3 stars = 5 or 6/10 4 stars = 7 or 8/10 5 stars = 9 or 10/10
Having heard nothing but breathless adoration for it I was looking forward to finally playing Earthbound, but it looks like it'll be later rather than sooner. I'm not entirely convinced that the game is now officially dead to the west. I'm sure Nintendo are aware of the religious following Earthbound has and the subsequent flow of cash its release would produce. While the music may be an issue, I wouldn't have thought it would be such a big one. It may be that we don't know the whole story. I suppose an increased interest in Earthbound might do something to show Nintendo the way.
I never got a DS Lite, so I might well get a DSi. The deciding factor will definitely be the quality of this DSiWare business. If there's retro stuff as well then I'm sold.
I downloaded this in the very early hours of Friday, I'm on stage 7 at the moment and, shockingly, I think I'm enjoying it more than Caslevania IV. The different characters and alternate paths really add to it.
@ timewarpgamer: Since we here in PAL terrotorries still have to put up with slower games and squashed screens, I don't think they're that bothered about stuff like this, however it was Konami's magical sound chip, not Nintendo's, so I imagine that ultimately it'd be up to them. I wouldn't hold out, though...
This is awesome!!!! I've playeyed I, II, and IV, and have been dying to play III and now it looks like it could finally happen. Here's hoping it's sooner rather than later.
Cho Aniki is great, I'm looking forward to seeing what America thinks of it. Shame on anyone too scared to download it! Its reasonably solid shooting mechanics and 'unique aesthetic quality' make for some hilarious fun. Definitely worth your 900 points.
Here's hoping, if it does happen, it's old-school Castlevania. We have loads of Metroidvanias, and more to come, and what with the limitations of WiiWare, it would make sense to keep it simple.
Blimey, I've been waiting ages for this game. Is it ever going to come out in Europe?
I've completed both SGnG and GnG and I'm hungry for more. I guess I should be pleased that you guys are saying that its not actually that difficult, but I was sort of looking forward to a bigger challenge than the other two, hell, I think I'm ready for it.
This looks neat. I'm fairly new to this whole scrolling shoot 'em up concept, so, as it happens, I've yet to play a Gradius game (don't hate me), so perhaps I'm extra interested in this.
Can anyone suggest a good place to start with the Gradiuses?
This is looking awesome, it's probably the only game I'm actualy excited about now. I'm really glad to hear it has some difficulty to it, the only thing I dislike more than push-over games is push-over gamers, to anyone complaining about this: be a MAN!
What an awesome game. I finaly beat it today (thanks to Adamant's tactic for Dracula's last form, I must admit) and I'm finding hard to recall a better gaming experience.
Death's stage was a nightmare! I survived the last bit by constantly throwing crosses at the axe armours and medusa heads the whole time. I employed a similar tactic for Death, which was helped by the fact that I earned a 'III' stone in the previous section. Such an intense battle! I literally laughed out loud when I saw Death burning.
Hmm, I can't really get into this game. I've finished about half the levels (using about a trillion lives), and it's yet to really grip me. I think I would have prefered linear progression.
Maybe I'll try it again once I've finished Soldier Blade...
A hundred games! I certainly look forward to storing them on my Wii's expanded memory. Seriously, what could they possibly gain from ignoring the issue?
The only reason I really own a Wii is for the VC and WiiWare stuff - for me, they're it's biggest draw. However, I'm simply not prepared to be constantly redownloading everything over and over again. This needs sorting out, or I think Nintendo is set to lose out on a lot of business.
I'd really like to have a stab at this, which I'm sure I'll regret, but I hope it's released in Europe soon. That said, I should stop complaining, as I've still got to go and finish both Super and standard Ghouls 'n' Ghosts. I'll manage it eventually...
I think some people are being a bit harsh on this game. I got the impression that AVGN was just nit-picking over stuff like the password system and the water, I think that, when all is said and done, it's a great adventure game... provided you're willing to invest some of your time scanning a walkthrough

Re: Review: Defender (GameCube)
I remember playing this game, it was quite fun though I never completed it. I think I'll give it another shot sometime.

Re: The Hanabi Festival Returns to Europe Next Month
I pray, Castlevania: Rondo of Blood.
Re: Review: Super Smash Bros. (Virtual Console / Nintendo 64)
I would have given it 6.76(3SF)x10^-15.

Re: Hudson Not Abandoning Virtual Console After All?
Dear sweet lord, we need Rondo of Blood.

Re: Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse
I'm eager to play this. I found the original to be positively orgasmic, so I'm desperate to get in on this one too. The sooner the better.

Such good news!!!!!
Re: Nintendo’s Storage Solution: Better Than HDD, Expected Soon
I'm excited. Better than a HDD?
I'm thinking Reggie is a warlock, and Nintendo are going to solve the problem with magic.
Re: R-Type
I recently purchased R-Type Final and it's bloody fantastic. Once I complete it, I'm going to have to download this, to see where it all started.

Re: Hanabi Festival 3 Kicks Off
Does this mean no Rondo of Blood? So there isn't a God...
Re: EU VC Releases: Super Mario RPG and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels
Gasp. This is a really pleasent suprise. I imagine I'll be downloading both of these later, once I've had some sleep.
And, dare I hope that Rondo of Blood could be released soon? This update is most pleasing.

Here's hoping, if it does happen, it's old-school Castlevania. We have loads of Metroidvanias, and more to come, and what with the limitations of WiiWare, it would make sense to keep it simple.

Damn, that's an unpleasant suprise. I was really looking forward to seeing how his ideas played out.
