Re: Exclusive: Lost Wii Game, Sadness, To Be Revived as Wii U Exclusive

CthulhiGames

After the populaces general show of negativity towards us picking up the pieces of Sadness and the situation with the IP coming to light we have decided to drop the project in favor of one of these other 4 development studios that are currently bidding on the IP with Bloober Team, hopefully the studio that comes out on top with this will be able to fully realize the game to its original concept. We have high hopes for the game and wish the winning studio the best of luck.

@Zach In understand peoples skepticism, I really do but there is so much negativity around 2D these days, like it has no potential for innovation or to show us something new. Yes we are going with a 2D perspective, this does not mean its going to be a platformer/sidescroller. My development cycle for Sadness and Ex Oblivione will run parallel to each other, much of what is built for one will fit the other, and they will both maintain a pseudo 3D atmosphere. I am aiming for an Alpha build late 2014 early 2015.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Must Take Careful Steps Into Paid DLC and Free-to-Play

CthulhiGames

One thing being overlooked here about the day 1 DLC is that the final version of the game was completed probably something like 6 months ago, it takes a long time to go through ESRB/PEGI ratings and the manufacturing process, even for Nintendo. So its likely that the DLC has been in development after they started this process.

Typically I dont care for DLC, If a game isnt complete to my satisfaction then I wont buy it at all. But in this case they could be charging $60 like some of their competition and then charge for DLC on top of that, so I see no reason to complain.

@Dark-Link73 This is exactly true, If you really think about it the average development cycle for a AAA company is 2 to 3 years, and they have huge teams. Why is it looked down upon when us indies ask for the same amount of time. Especially given that we are composed of small teams or are sometimes one individual producing everything from beginning to end. Unless your want more shovelware then I would cut the indies that are aspiring to more a little slack.

Re: Popup Dungeon and Hover: Revolt of Gamers Both Join The Kickstarter Ranks

CthulhiGames

As an indie developer myself (working on title by myself, ive done my research) I can say that the whole KS scene isnt being utilized to its full potential by the Hover team. You see, if they were to market the game as an exclusive for the WiiU they would likely have been funded several times over by now (probably), or even if they were to target just the PC and WiiU simultaneously through Unity they they would not need such an erroneous stretch goal, because everything would be covered in the base goal, multiplatform is not always the best way to go (this is my opinion). And what the hell ever happened to KS projects keeping their stretch goals a secret huh? This is what partially made them so addictive in the first place. Checking back everyday (every 30 seconds in my case) to see how much closer we were to attaining the next goal would drive more people to spend more money, and spread the word more. If a specific market of people is hesitant to back because the stretch goal is so far away, you are probably doing something wrong somewhere.

Now they are just like BAM! here is everything we have planned with nothing interesting to add later.

Re: Ex Oblivione is a 2D Action Horror RPG Coming Exclusively to Wii U

CthulhiGames

@Dreamz I never really considered Castlevania or Limbo to be scary, they limit your gameplay to basic platforming which I think is a huge mistake if you are out to scare somebody. 2D can be just as effective at 3D if not more so because it restricts the developer from relying solely on realistic looking models that serve no more purpose then that of "shock value", which I've never found particularly scary anyway. Nothing can scare you like your own subconscious mind, and being a fan of my own nightmares, you can expect me to strike that fear nerve at a much deeper level

Re: Feature: Kickstarter's Wii U and 3DS Campaigns - 13th April

CthulhiGames

@Arkaein @element187 , A $200K stretch goal to port to WiiU is a bit ridiculous. As a solo indie developer myself there is no reason to request that degree of funding unless you don't plan on keeping it indie. I will likely be doing some form of crowd funding later on once I have more of my game 'Ex Oblivione' fleshed out to appease the "but there is not concept art/screen shots/videos" people. Even then, I would never dream of asking for more than $10k.

Re: Ex Oblivione is a 2D Action Horror RPG Coming Exclusively to Wii U

CthulhiGames

I started posting about Ex Oblivione in its early stages so that people that wish to follow the game through its entire development stage would have the opportunity to do so. While I cant post specifics regarding the WiiU hardware I will be more than happy to share concept art, screen shots and videos as they get made. For those that want to wait until there is definitive material to show off what the game WILL be in the end, I completely understand your position here. Just keep in mind that these articles as well as the website/twitter feed are meant as a development blog, not just some bits of advertising.

Re: Ex Oblivione is a 2D Action Horror RPG Coming Exclusively to Wii U

CthulhiGames

@gatorboi352 I think primarily indies like myself start putting out information very early in development to get feedback and to start building a community around their games early on. Unlike AAA developers who keep everything secret till the last second, because realistically they do not care what they community wants if they are selling units. There may be some exceptions to this, but that is just my opinion.

Re: Ex Oblivione is a 2D Action Horror RPG Coming Exclusively to Wii U

CthulhiGames

@Frapp While 'Ex Oblivione' is definitely inspired by these great games of the past, it is hardly unoriginal to use elements from them, especially if they are so dissimilar to each other. Anything that someone creates is going to draw inspiration from some other media whether its intentional or not, it is inevitable.

Re: Nintendo eShop Developers Teaming Up in Plan for 'Ninty Indy Con'

CthulhiGames

I would like to take a moment to announce that the name of the online indie con has been finalized as NindyCon. I have acquired the domain, and am busily developing the webpage. The site will focus on advocating support for all Indie developers targeting a Nintendo platform and getting their games in the spotlight.
