This seems exceedingly unlikely, I think. Granted, physical design is not everything, but I imagine Nintendo would have learned something from the WiiU debacle that having a successor device look so similar to the predecessor might be confusing - even with great marketing. Also I’m skeptical we’ll get a reveal until early 2025.
My best educated guess is that Nintendo will wait and see how the Mario movie might impact Switch sales. If there's an obvious and sustained bump, I think we'll see the successor in early 2025. If not, sometime in 2024. Yes, Zelda 2 and Metroid will see a release on both consoles (I'd hedge that Prime 4 gets pushed fully to the next console if I'm being honest).
I'm frequently disappointed by Nintendo's E3 appearances. I would LOVE to see Pikmin 4 but I think that it's very doubtful. If I get Prime 4 or BOtW 2 I'll be happy enough, but I wouldn't be surprised if neither is shown. It will be filled with a lot of useless crap I don't care about - mostly just a feature for Mario Golf I'll bet.
@Heavyarms55 It sounds like we have different standards of excellence for Nintendo perhaps. Personally, I'd rather not have a game at all, or have one that's been delayed for a few months to improve its overall experience than to have a game that's good but not great. Sure, in a sense, it's an entitlement and I don't think that's a bad thing. It's precisely BECAUSE I've given Nintendo so much of my money that I have the absolute right to gripe when they're lazy about a release. We owe nothing to Nintendo, and they owe everything to us. They are a corporation. We are the ones with the power to choose to support these bad habits with our wallets, or not. And it's September. They could have released this in November or even December with the improvements - they're some of the best developers and programmers in the industry.
@Heavyarms55 it's not that, sir. I know the games, in and of themselves, are wonderful. It's just people disappointed in a company that we know and love for their creativity and quality taking a huge step backwards and communicating to their fans that they care more about making money this quarter than they do releasing outstanding products to their fans.
@NintendoLife it feel would be appreciated, and well within your purview to help steer the overall dialogue regarding this release from defending Nintendo to challenging them and calling them out for laziness. This is not the Nintendo I know and love - this game feels rushed and not given the respect it deserves. Nintendo owes us, their loyal fans, better. I encourage you to call them out publicly for attempting to get away with sub-par efforts.
@MatoFilipovic it's not the fact that it's a cash grab that bothers me - Nintendo is a business after all. It's that their cash grabs are low effort, bare minimum releases that could and should be so much better than they are. If they'd given it their all, I'd probably pick it up. No reason we shouldn't have widescreen 64, everything locked at 60 fps, Galaxy 2 at a bare minimum.
@Rodan2000 yeah I'm done supporting Nintendo when I perceive it to be a lackluster effort for a cash grab. Do it right, and MAYBE. Nintendo is going the way of Disney.
