Great news for Nintendo! I bet these numbers would have been even higher if they didn't have stock issues with the launch. I don't think this is only people upgrading. Two people I work with bought one for the first time when the new system launched.
Wii U seems to have done about 94k this month, which is a HUGE improvement from last year. This time last year they were only selling 50-60k a month. The Wii U might never be a hit but could end up at GC numbers or slightly better when it's all said and done. Not bad for how it had been going. Now if they would do a price cut they might see some more improvement. I really think they would get more people to buy it at $250.
What a first class jerk. People still think he wasn't insulting Nintendo and it's fans? Why this idiot was allowed to make this statement officially is beyond me, but it seems about par for the course for Sega these days.
It's pretty funny to read the comments here of Sony and MS fans saying they are not interested in the game, but Nintendo fans are. Great "business" call Game Freak and Sega. Way to read the market. And don't come late porting this game to Nintendo systems when it bombs on your platforms of choice. That bridge is now burned. See you at your next disaster of a quarterly report Sega. Enjoy the ride into oblivion. Hopefully your slot machine business works out for you.
And Nintendo needs to stop with this we don't compete nonsense. These developers and hardware makers are competing with them and trying to put them out of the hardware business at the very least. Nintendo needs a guy like Yamauchi right now. A ruthless businessman. Iwata has done great with keeping the game quality up but is a totally hopeless and inept businessman. He needs to stop saying Nintendo doesn't compete every chance he gets. It's like throwing blood into the water around a bunch of sharks. And everyone is now just taking a piece out of them any chance they get, counting on them doing nothing about it. It's been very damaging to Nintendo in the long term.
Just give it rest. You know nothing of gaming if you don't know how weird and parallel universe it is to have a Game Freak game NOT releasing on a Nintendo system period and them saying that lame bs about a poster. Lol. The last collaboration between Sega and Game Freak was 21 years ago! Whatever Sega and Game Freak. And like I said, people are blind if they can't see what a huge insult this is while Nintendo is releasing Sonic Amiibos and Sega is skipping their system on a game that could obviously run on it just fine. Write whatever comeback you want I'm done responding to your posts.
I really don't think it's a business decision. A close business partner that is struggling like Nintendo should be able to expect a low budget game like this thrown their way, especially since it's coming to other consoles. This system is starving for games. It has a ready made audience being a Game Freak game already. In fact, the decision makes no sense on a business level, just like Capcom releasing RE Revelations 2 on everything but Nintendo systems when the original was only on Nintendo systems. The message is starting to look pretty clear to me.
If you want to accept that kind of insulting excuse as to why the game isn't coming to the Wii U that's your decision, but please don't label my post conspiracy when the companies themselves don't offer up a believable or rational explanation themselves.
Sorry folks but this decision is personal and was a successful attempt to embarrass Nintendo. The port costs in no way justify skipping the Wii U. These companies throw money away on games with a lot less chance of success than this. Game Freak is trying to diverge from Nintendo and skipping their platforms altogether with this sends a clear message and that message is not good.
Now I don't know what Nintendo has done to warrant this kind of hostility, but you would have to be willfully blind not to see it in this particular situation. I don't know what Nintendo needs to do but it's obvious they have to do something.
I'm buying this game day 1 to support the new IP and because, damn it, I am a Wil Wheaton fan. Screw the haters! Gordy LaChance actually has a voice role in this game. Badass and sold!
Great post and you're right the fan base has become a problem and this needs to be said more often. In my opinion, most of the fan base has devolved into little more than brand fascists and are very hostile and unwelcoming to outsiders, who enjoy gaming on multiple platforms. It's actually one of Nintendo's biggest problems these days.
This is really unbelievable and sad. Nintendo needs an answer here. And to think they just released a Sonic amiibo too. This really is a betrayal, but one that should wake Nintendo up if they have anyone left with any sense there, which is questionable these days, sadly.
This game needs to be on the Wii U and Nintendo needs to make it happen. If it has anything to do with the name of the game skipping the system, then Nintendo really does deserve it's fate. I don't think it does, and like has already been pointed out, this is something bigger and points to really bad things for Nintendo's future unfortunately. Wake up Nintendo!
Yeah that's an idea about downloading Ocarina and then sending it. I might download Kid Icarus for him as that's another expensive game to buy now. I refuse to shop at GS and don't want to buy used online.
The cradle is definitely sold out already. Wow that was fast. I bought one this morning and they were still there. Hopefully they get more soon for people who missed out. These inventory issues are getting really annoying.
@Zombie_Barioth
If you really believe that then you have no idea how those markets influence each other. If the second hand market wasn't getting huge prices for these limited editions in the first place then GS wouldn't even attempt to sell this bundle at this price or in this way. I'm sorry you really have no idea what you're talking about and I don't really want to argue with people white knighting for GS. Give me a break.
Yes, Ocarina. I just bought a New 3DS for my brother who is stationed overseas. No eShop access where he is and can't find a new physical copy for under $100. Frustrating but will probably buy the overpriced copy and send it to him with MM. He deserves it.
My opinion is GS forcing a bundle that literally is over double of what the system retails for by itself in an attempt to force overstock on people, while charging only retail prices for it, is total bs. And by Nintendo fans buying these ridiculously overpriced bundles and limited editions in the second hand market has now opened the floodgates for more unscrupulous retailers and scalpers to force items on customers and you can bet this won't be the last of this kind of thing but only the beginning. Feel free to disagree but you won't convince me that GS is not being sleazy here because they are. A $500 3DS bundle is obscene from an actual retailer.
We can agree to disagree on the GS "deal". But Mario Galaxy is still in print and is a perfectly fair comparison. If the Zelda titles sell well, and they do, then keep them in print for the life of the system. It seems pretty straight forward actually.
No, I and other people would just like the system for retail price. It's pretty simple. Being forced into buying a bundle is not my idea of a good deal and comes off as pretty sleazy but that's nothing new for GS.
McDonald's is a good example of what will happen if Nintendo refuses to adapt to the market. It's got a brand image problem that they will have trouble recovering from, ironically showing how out of touch Nintendo is by agreeing to have happy meal toys with them last summer. They literally couldn't have picked a more toxic brand to be associated with. Nintendo needs new IPs not so many remakes.
If they did a remake at all it should be in HD. Even something like DKCR suffers from the crappy screens on the 3DS and is much better experienced on the Wii. I want Nintendo to keep pushing forward in HD and not keep falling back on low resolution games. That's being innovative too in a way Nintendo could really use right about now imo.
I'm not a fan of GS holding the 3DS hostage and only selling it with accessories people might not want. And Nintendo have kept games like Mario Galaxy in print for like a decade that makes it seem like it wouldn't be too hard to do the same thing for OOT, especially releasing a new system with the sequel imo. If people go for this GS "deal" watch how much worse it gets from all the retailers if they know they can pull crap like this.
Toon Link and Sheik are pretty common. I have seen both at every Target, Wal Mart, Best Buy and Toy R Us I have been to. But I have heard they are tougher to find in some areas, but they are really common by me.
Nintendo fans are officially being taken to the cleaners now. Simply put: this limited edition is not worth $500 dollars and leave it to a scumbag company like GS to try and charge that. They obviously held back stock to take advantage of demand. Resist these prices Nintendo fans or this situation will only get worse.
Nintendo themselves really need to figure out a better pre-order system because this is ridiculous and is going to bite them in really bad way if this continues. Nintendo themselves should tell GS that this is bs publicly! The next step is for a backlash against Nintendo themselves. I know I'm sick of this crap already and Nintendo's inaction on it.
They also just raised the price of the AC adapter from $10 to $12. I just ordered one last week and know for a fact that I paid $10 for a new one. I hope this bites Nintendo because it is some bs but chances are it won't. What can you do but laugh you know?
Thanks for the head's up on this cradle. I was also looking into getting one from Japan. I just ordered the cradle and just so other people know the $7 shipping charge is a flat fee. I also ordered a red nunchuck to go with my Mario wii mote and the shipping was still $7. So if you have any thing else to order it would save on additional shipping later on.
Yeah, I've been with them since the SNES days and it really has been disappointing this generation so far from them. I'm also getting ready to buy a PS4 when Batman comes out, another game skipping the Wii U. I don't really want to buy another console either.
The irony is if Nintendo had better hardware and the third party support they would probably dominate the console market like they do the handheld market. I personally think they are done with the traditional home console market after this generation. It's the only thing that could explain their total inaction in regards to the Wii U, but that's just my opinion. I guess we'll have to wait and see what they have planned for the next generation, but if they don't change some things around then I agree that they really are in big trouble.
@audiobrainiac That's really true. MH has one of the best online communities out there, folks will help inexperienced players out without being jerks about it.
@Boxmonkey Your reply is worded a bit harshly but I can't say I totally disagree. I'm really hoping they announce N64 games at E3 this year. The most frustrating part is that the N64 games only work with the classic controller , which is now discontinued! Unbelievable disorganization and bad management on Nintendo's part for that oversight. They have treated their console customers pretty badly this generation. They should have really beefed up the VC when third party support vanished off the Wii U. Yet they won't even put N64 games on it. It really is unacceptable and not a good way to treat customers.
@hiptanaka I think they kill all momentum on the VC with their trickle out of games myself. Given their financial state currently it might not be a bad idea to roll out a monthly service on the VC. It would be almost pure profit. The way they are doing things now is definitely not working very well imo. When they have more angry and disappointed fans every week rather than happy ones, it might be time to examine why that is and change some of it up. But I'm not holding my breath waiting for it to happen.
Punch Out may be cheap in the UK, but a sealed copy of even the Nintendo selects version goes for about $75 in the U.S. now more for the original version, so I would buy those cheap sealed copies as an investment. It seems Nintendo has chosen Wii games that are out of print and go for big money on the used market to release first. They just need to release more of them and at much more consistent intervals than what they have been doing.
