Re: Video: These Fan-Made Concepts For Splatoon, Animal Crossing And Mario Kart Should Give Nintendo Pause For Thought

CapnKatz

I really dislike videos like this because all it does is bring up the pointless argument of 'Why can't Nintendo give us what we want'. Yes, everyone wants a proper battle mode in MK8, more meaningful incorporation of amiibo, and a new proper Animal Crossing. This is just reopening old wounds.

Even the comment of "the idea of the Wii U Animal Crossing game we all really wanted (rather than the one we actually got)" is unnecessary. amiibo Festival is not a true Animal Crossing, was never trying to be, and was only released to tide fans over. A true Animal Crossing would have required much longer development than amiibo Festival (unless it were an improved New Leaf which still took them three years with City Folk and I doubt they want to do that again) and would probably have just been moved to NX by this point anyway.

I enjoy the game for what it is. Mystery Campers, Acorn Chase, Balloon Island, Quiz Show, Desert Island, and the main Board Game have all held my interest when playing with friends and family. For a local multiplayer party game geared towards casual players, I would give it an 8/10.

I personally much prefer Mario Party 2&3 to this, but those are only fun if I'm playing with gamers. With my more casual-playing friends and family, this game is a lot of fun.

@andyrob_24_7 Thank you for writing this! I got the game on release day and while it's certainly a different experience my family and I have all been really enjoying it. I was surprised by the variety of content in the game and how many of the modes keep us coming back. Glad to hear at least one positive opinion on the game amidst the hyper-negative reviews starting to come out

@bofis To be honest I kind of like the 5 person limit in Sketch as it prevents the game from running too long. Whenever we have more than 5 players we always just pair up, which can lead to some pretty hilarious team photos, and have each pair take turns drawing (usually when I play with more than 5 there's a few who don't want to draw anyway).

I'll probably pass on this. It just seems too generic and almost like a rip-off of Sketch

Meh, this stock is always up and down and, looking at the USD price, it's still about $4 above what it was right before they saw the massive jump from the DeNA announcement back in March. The people selling are probably mostly those who bought back in March and don't really understand Nintendo.

@yodamerlin Lol super long disgusting-looking code is how I beat a lot of the speed challenges. If you're still working on that size challenge in the video, I used my "small-divide" solution in the program if that helps

Re: Review: Human Resource Machine (Wii U eShop)

@yodamerlin On my 17 hours? I wish it weren't true, pretty embarrassing honestly. Makes it seem like I have no idea what I'm doing. I think I just spent 2 hours reworking my code on the final stage "Sorting Floor" to get the speed challenge under 700 whatever. My first go was under the size requirement no problem but my speed came out to about 1100 steps. Other ones that gave me a bit of trouble on the challenges were "Prime Factory" and "Three Sort". Sometimes it's just one small implementation that I don't think of until I've already tried a few others unsuccessfully =p

My time may have been inflated a bit by small breaks of 10 or 15 minutes where the Wii U was left running, but those definitely amounted to no more than 2-3 hours overall. Kudos to you though! Is that 5 hours 100%?

Re: Review: Human Resource Machine (Wii U eShop)

@yodamerlin If someone is having difficulty solving the actual problems they definitely won't be breezing through the game in under an hour, probably not even five, even if they ignore all the optional challenges. The only person who could do that would be someone with a fair amount of programming knowledge. Which leads me to question why someone with a fair amount of programming knowledge would pick this game up in the first place just to do the bare minimum. I'm asking how many people the reviewer knows who actually did complete this game in under an hour and didn't feel compelled to complete any of the challenges, because I have a feeling very few people fall into that category.

@AtomicSoda Well put, I couldn't agree more. Just 100% finished at 17hours... I must be pretty rusty =/

Re: Review: Human Resource Machine (Wii U eShop)

CapnKatz

@Steve_Bowling Are you saying that the game can be completed in under an hour from your own experience or that of someone you know? Or is that just a guesstimate? Because I have a fair amount of programming experience but going for all the speed/size challenges has taken me quite some time. Still working on speed for the last one currently. Maybe if someone skipped all the optional stages and challenges they could complete it in an hour, but isn't that missing the point?

Re: Review: The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes (3DS)

@ThomasBW84 Have the Nintendolife crew considered having multiple, maybe three, reviewers per game and averaging the scores? I really loved how you did that for the Star Fox Zero E3 impressions, gave a nice rounded feel while that super short Boxboy review back in April still makes me sad to think about =(

Only asking here due to the addition of the 'Not Bad'. Makes me wonder if you guys have considered changing your review system in any other ways. Your points on Triforce Heroes are pretty much in line with my demo experience.

Why are the real-world candies being chastised as "product placement"? Everything I've seen so far regarding their inclusion seems like a fun way to tie in popular snacks from a variety of countries people may not know of.
