I don't know if this would have happened, really, but I feel like consumers here in the U.S. (or any other territory for that matter) would want to buy something just because it's "NEW". I mean, look at the demand for the new 3DS XL, which adds technically less new features than the standard new 3DS. If NoA would have focused solely on creating the New 3DS, and not the XL, with the faceplates and focused on marketing its bigger screen size than the original, then I feel like consumers would have been all over the New 3DS just the same.
Perhaps it was just for the sake of spending less initial cost to produce the XL and not the standard with the plates, with the knowledge that they could release the other one later and still sell plenty of both. But I do think that if they were to alienate any of their customers it should have been the XL customers first, and then release it later. This would have made more sense in the market, rather than phasing out the original 3DS and replacing the XL with a "new" one.
I don't think they have any coherent strategy here other than to cut costs, and the decision came down from the top. For whatever reason.
You know, the more I think about this I feel like Nintendo has to plan on bringing the standard New 3DS to the U.S., just based on the fact that the New 3DS XL is still in fact called the New 3DS XL. They make a point to designate that it is the XL model, phasing out the old XL model. They have also stopped selling the original 3DS, or at least they are not stocked in stores anymore. If they truly believed the U.S. would only want the XL model, I feel like they would have named it the New Nintendo 3DS, and just had that be the singular standard model.
All of this assuming NoA actually has a marketing and distribution plan in play, and arn't just poorly misreading the market. Does anyone see where I'm coming from? or am I just putting too much thought into it?...
"... now there is the 2ds, 3ds, and New 3ds XL..." ?? Someone in NoA needs to let him know that this isn't this case. Their website clearly shows the options are " Nintendo 2DS (A treat for your kids) and New NIntendo 3DS" I know I haven't even seen the standard 3DS in stores anymore, so realistically its 2DS, 3DS XL, and New 3DS XL. The strategy he is talking about may make more sense, but that's not even what NoA is doing, so.....
I loved this game when it came out. I bought the season pass, because I loved it. Then the updates came... I haven't been able to best the first stage of the twilight princess map.. My best character is lvl 51, and I feel like I've put hours and hours into this game. Now they are raising the level cap to 300! Are you kidding!? Has anyone actually gotten anywhere near that!? How? There has to be an easier way than spending 45-60 minutes to level up 1 character 1 maybe 2 levels. There just didn't seem to be enough reward any more for me for the time I put into it. I want to love this game so bad and to see all the maps and cool things it gives me, but I don't have the patience or time
I feel we all know this will be a platformer, but I hope so badly that it will be a 3-D platformer, and not 2-D, since it is the spiritual successor to Banjo and not DKC. I'll keep my excitement in check until we hear more, but think of the potential!?
So I have tried playing 4 different Monster Hunter games, this being the most recent. The concept and trailers and everything just scream out to me that I'm going to love it! Yet, every time I play the game something feels... off. I can never seem to pinpoint exactly what it is, but it has been present in every game I've tried. I think it is UI features that just stick out to me, the sound effects (like the select sound), and the feedback of the player moving around and interacting with the world, the way that the games loading screens just appear and dissappear with little transition, something just seems off. I wouldn't think it'd bother me that much, but it's been enough to keep me through playing any of the games fully. Does anyone else get that feeling?
@rjejr I noticed this as well. It's as though they just check their sales, assume that since the XL sold more that the market doesn't want a standard size, and is now phasing them out, not even considering that consumers may have tried the XL, but more be more than willing to upgrade to the smaller form factor and larger screens of the standard "new" 3ds models. So now you get 2 choices. It's crazy!
If this is true, then that red XL is very tempting, though I think I would prefer the new standard model in that color! Either way, I'm not sure if it'd be worth moving up from my gold Zelda XL. Not at least until its beauty can be matched, lol.

Re: Feature: Five Nintendo 64 Games We'd Love to Play on 3DS
I'd be down for a Donkey Kong 64 re-release, take out the beaver panic minigame, maybe add add a map, 3-D, and a log more intuitive collectibles log.
... Am I alone in this?...
