Re: Former Nintendo Duo Fear We Might Be Waiting A While For A 3D Mario On Switch 2, Thanks To Donkey Kong

With the first Mario movie back in April 2023, they launched Super Mario Wonder in October of the same year.
Given the Mario movie sequel out in April 2026, i can't see Nintendo missing an opportunity to benefit from all the publicity and appetite from fans without the launch of a new flagship Mario title. I think we'll see a major new Super Mario 3D adventure in 2026.

Re: Time Between Switch's Announcement And Launch Was A "Special Case", Says Nintendo

Nintendo has such an interesting strategy for releasing new hardware/software:

Some games they publicise on the radar years prior (eg. Metroid Prime 4), others they keep very quiet on.
With the latter, I'm sure this is to ensure every game they launch has a clear sales runway before they announce something new that could create a choice of which game to purchase for some people.
eg. It's Nintendo's big year for the Super Mario movie, yet still no mention of a Super Mario title for the rest of this year. Why? They want everybody to buy LOZ: TOTK, Pikmin 4 etc. so why would they compete against themselves by showing their hand too early on a new Mario title. Makes sense.

Same strategy goes for the Switch successor. Why wouldn't they sell as many Switch devices at FULL PRICE for as long as possible. The moment they announce a successor, it creates doubt about what console to buy. (Wii U was such a failure they had to announce early)

Personally think they will do as follows:

1) Launch Switch 2 (or whatever it's called) in May 2024
2) Drop price of current Switch devices by $50 in time for Holiday THIS YEAR (to maximise Holiday sales especially if they release a new 2d Super Mario title) and keep selling it in the market until 2026 as an "entry system".

Re: Miyamoto: Nintendo Is "Always" Working On Mario, But Isn't Ready For The Next Game Reveal Just Yet

The way i see it, Nintendo's strategy is to give clear runway to each game release to avoid splitting sales, with this 1st half of the year focusing on the marketing of Legend of Zelda (and some of their other smaller IPs).
The second half of this year will 100% get some Super Mario games (they'd be daft not to benefit from all the extra Mario love following the movie success) and i'd be shocked if it was a movie-themed game as they'd have to share revenue with Universal, which they don't need to do, unless it's in their contract.
Either way, i'm sure they are planning a Mario-specific Nintendo Direct for some time in the not-to-distant future to share with us all!

Re: Talking Point: Would You Prefer 'Super Mario Odyssey 2' Or A Totally New 3D Mario?

Logic would suggest a new 3d Mario game in the same timeframe as the movie, so they maximise hype/marketing/sales across all forms of entertainment. Disney do this to death with merch lines supporting big movie releases.
But.............Nintendo are not Disney and we know they tend to defy logic, so it wouldn't surprise me if they hold back the next new 3D Mario game for the next hardware launch (Switch Pro or whatever they decide to do).

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Direct To Take Place Later This Month

With Mario strikers released surely this next Nintendo Direct is the time for them to announce a new 3D mario title for next year? They won’t want to miss the golden opportunity to benefit from all the global Super Mario hype when the movie launches in 2023.

Re: Nintendo Reminds Us Of Switch's Upcoming Releases, And 2022's Looking Pretty Mighty

Bibbidy

The big omissions from that 2022 list is anything new from Nintendo on Mario.
1) Super Mario movie (set for December 2022) will no doubt get some kind of major Super Mario game launch for the Switch to capitalise on all the extra Mario marketing/hype at the time the film comes out. It'll be 5 years since Odyssey so....
2) Mario Kart 30th anniversary - surely it's time for some fresh new content for the Switch.....

Re: Random: Epic Goes To War With Apple, Asks Players To "Join The Fight" And "Free Fortnite"

So, Apple and Google develop operating systems used by billions of phone users around the world, as well as phones that power those OS, enabling EPIC to get their game into the hands of those gamers for free, yet don't want Apple/Google to make as many profits in the transaction?
Talk about Epic wanting their Cake and Eat it....
I'll be shocked if they win this legal battle.

Re: Talking Point: So, Where Does Switch Fit Into Sony And Microsoft's Next Gen Landscape?

Bibbidy

Nintendo to launch Super Mario Allstars this Q4 on an all new "Enjoy Nintendo" monthly subscription streaming online service, playable on mobile devices, tablets, smart tvs with new games launching regularly. No Nintendo hardware required to play.

Enjoy Nintendo subscription to cost $99 for first 12 months, with subscribers receiving a Nintendo Switch Pro controller compatible with all Enjoy Nintendo games on non-native devices. $4.99 per month in year 2.

Existing Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will receive Enjoy Nintendo for free (no Pro controller provided) as part of existing subscriptions and games will be playable on Nintendo Switch family devices.

Enjoy Nintendo service to include back catalogue games prior to the Wii U and requires an online connection to play unless playing via a Nintendo Switch device.

Enjoy Nintendo is the new "recruitment service" to allow consumers to enjoy previous Nintendo games at an affordable entry price, to ultimately drive more sales of Nintendo Switch device and games, but also to compete for people’s time against alternative sources of entertainment such as SVOD services Netflix, Disney+ as well as free AVOD services Youtube, Tiktok, Instagram etc.

Of course, all of the above is completely fabricated, but could become reality as part of Nintendo's shift into wider entertainment worlds (Universal Studio Themepark attractions, Lego bricks, Animated Mario movie coming..).

So this topic of how Nintendo Switch will fit into the PS5 vs XBOX Series X battle is just one of many competitive battles Nintendo should be considering to remain relevant in an era with an ever increasing choice of entertainment sources and competing gaming subscription services (Apple Arcade, Gamepass etc) but have multiple cards in their deck to play with their treasure trove of IPs rivalled only by Disney.
