Re: First Impressions: Furry Legends

Aronos

Looks impressive from what I've seen and heard. I wonder how many wii points it will be 1000?
Also, I wonder how short it will be, or what extra bonus or modes they will incorporate if any.

Re: Review: Blaster Master: Overdrive (WiiWare)

Aronos

Ok, after playing this for a couple of days I'll post my impressions and a quick rundown of things I've noticed.

THE GOODS
Graphics are nice and a welcome upgrade from it's NES brother.
The music/SFX are really nice and catchy. Though some enemy deaths could be better, or even when you die.
The controls, (Which are NES styled) are spot on and very responsive. Quick rapid firing, and everything matches up nicely. There are some slow times during SOPHIA's control, but I think that's just cause your supposed to be driving a tank so it feels realistic. (Which is a plus)
Save Feature! (Finally lol)
A Map. It looks and acts like a castlevania or Metroid type map, so that's all I really have to say.
Difficulty is right where it's supposed to be. It seems like it's a little easier than the NES one, what with the map, save feature, and HP up's, but I have died numerous times on bosses and from taking to many hits which actually drains your health very fast.
Boss fights are just as cool as before and just as hard in some cases.

NOT SO GOOD
Overhead view is not as exciting and kind of plain. I remember the NES one had destoyable blocks, traps, and other hazards that made going into them kind of a chance at what you'll find. However, in this one the levels are very open, plain, and semi-repetitive. Now you should go in all of the caves, because they will give you some type of power up no matter what, and all they consist of are shooting enemies that die easily if powered up and not much else.

EXTRA THINGS NOT THAT IMPORTANT
Controls for swiming with Alex are really wierd and tend to be overly complicated. I understand that they are really similar to how they are in the NES version, but they could of just made it easier with the jump button or something idk.
Bonus Features? Now, first of all, I haven't beaten the game yet, so idk if there's any bonus stuff/unlockables. However, I think there should be something. Concept art, hard modes, or even a boss rush.

OVER ALL SCORE
(Grade not precise, but somewhere around that which is given.)

Graphics: A-
Music/Sounds: B
Gameplay: A
Lasting Appeal: B
Originality: A
Accessability/Learning Curve: B+

FINAL THOUGHTS
If your'e one of the lucky few who played the original, or even if you haven't and love platformers, action games, games similar to metroid, or if you want to try something orginal or a sweet hybrid, then I suggest you maybe pick this one up.
It retains everything good about the NES version, but with new, (And Handy) stuff that make this one a must have if you liked the first one.
I think that's all to say right now. Try it if you're interested, and I for one am very glad this series has been given a new installment.

Re: Mega Man Zero Collection Aims Westward

Aronos

Well I already own all 4 zero games on the GBA, so I probably own't pick this one up. Maybe if it includes a ton of new stuff, or bonus materials.
It's a very good thing for people who maybe only own 1-2 games or none and want a chance to play them. They are some of my all time favorite GBA games.

Re: bittos+

Aronos

I'm kind of on the fence about this game. I like the style and I do play a bunch of puzzle games, but I need some type of review, or decent gameplay vids. Maybe I'll go play tetris in the mean time.

Re: Nintendo Download: 25th January 2010 (North America)

Aronos

Ghoul Patrol!!! Yes!
But, where's Zombies Ate My Neighbors?
I would have thought that game would come out first since Ghoul Patrol is supposedly its sequel.
For the people asking about where's Cave Story.
In the recent Nintendo Power, they said it would come out sometime in February.
At least that's what issue it was for.

Re: Review: Chronos Twins DX (WiiWare)

Aronos

@DarkEdi: Thank you, but I really only do these small reviews to help other people who are curious about the game, and to provide other opinions from different perspectives.
But, I wouldn't mind reviewing for Nintendo Life

Re: Review: Chronos Twins DX (WiiWare)

Aronos

Alright, after beating the game several times, I will write some thoughts on the game and some other things I've noticed.

GOOD THINGS
The game is pure classic platforming/puzzles/uniqueness.
The difficulty is a nice steady curve and ramps up accordingly.
The graphics are nice, but could be a little better, but who cares when you are more concerned with two screens and lots of stuff attacking you.
The music/SFX are really good and fit the style/atmosphere.
Even though it was short, you still have multiple difficulties and stuff to add replayability.
The "Slide" ability. Many games don't have one, but this one does!

NOT SO GOOD
A few times, your character can fall through blocks or move semi-through them, unless you are on it completely.
I also agree that they shouldn't use the curser/pointer for the menues, when it would just be much quicker to use a D-Pad.
Where's the pause options? Did they just omit it, or forget to add one in? First game I've ever played that didn't have a "Pause".

EXTRA THINGS NOT THAT IMPORTANT
You can't jump and shoot upwards at the same time.
You can't shoot downward. (Though you don't really need too, I guess.)
The game states you can use a GC controller, yet when you start the game up, you must have a classic controller plugged in, or a nunchuk or you can't start the game. (After which, you can.)
In "Normal" mode, you can't switch and replay levels, like you can in the other difficulties.

OVER ALL SCORE
(Grade not precise, but somewhere around that which is given.)

Graphics: B
Music/Sounds: A-
Gameplay: A
Lasting Appeal: B+
Originality: A-
Accessability/Learning Curve: B+

FINAL THOUGHTS
Even though there are some small annoyances, the gameplay and creativeness themselves make up more than any tiny ticks. If you love challenging, platforming, puzzle, multi-tasking games, than pay the measly $10, and help support more games like this!

Re: Chronos Twins DX

Aronos

I downloaded this when it came out. It's a very good game so far. It's really challenging compared to other wiiware games that are similar. I'm not good at multi-tasking either, but the game is still very addictive.
Maybe I'll write more when I finish it.

Re: Review: Stunt Cars (WiiWare)

Aronos

Ok Rich, after a few hours put into your game here is my feedback. I'll start with the good things that I personally liked, then I'll lay on the not so good things, or things I think you should improve on.

GOOD THINGS
Multiple/Changing POV/Camera Angles
Different "Times of Day", helps mix up the courses, though it should randomly change for the courses too. Adds replayability and uniqueness.
The "Length" of the tracks is fine (They some are semi-short) because you have 6 tracks per cup.
The amount of tracks is really good.
The amount of cars/racers could be higher, but it's still a good variety.
The graphics are average if not slightly higher than most wiiware games that are similar.
Unlockables. Including them increases replayability and creates goals to work towards.

NOT SO GOOD
Frame Rate Drops Frequently (Biggest Complaint) Racing games should not have lag.
No Guard Rails/Boundries, or at least have them on some tracks.
The Recovery Time from going of the track is fine/fast, but it probably shouldn't put you back a ways from the point you fell off.
Some times it's fine, but a few cases it put me really far away.
With a name like "Stunt Cars" their really are little to no stunts.
Does getting "Air Time/Drift Time" do anything?
There's only like 1 song I think that plays during all the races. It would have been nice to have more variety.

EXTRA THINGS NOT THAT IMPORTANT
Maybe add a speedometer of some sort?
You can collide with enemies/damage yourself, but does it do anything? Like slow down, loss of stats?
There should be some type of "Negative" effect when restarting races, or you could just keep doing it.
Car physics seem a little dummed down, could have nicer flashier? slides, jumps, boosts.
Braking seems very abrupt and no real friction/sliding.
Why "4" Laps? Is it a happy medium between 3 and 5 laps that other racing games use.
Better/More varied screen shots of each track would be nice, instead of the 4-5 shots used over and over again.
Maybe add in a variety or "Terrain/Turf" to run over, each with variable frictions/feel (Ex: grass, dirt, mud, ice, oil slicks?, water/puddles)

OVER ALL SCORE (Letter Grade)

  • Grade not precise, but somewhere around that which is given.
    Graphics: B
    Music/Sounds: D
    Gameplay: C+
    Lasting Appeal: B-
    Originality: D+
    Accessability/Learning Curve: B
    Multi-Player: Didn't get a chance to play.

FINAL THOUGHTS
I thought the game was decent, but not above other racing games that are already on WiiWare. I liked some things, but the frame rate issue is perhaps my biggest peeve. In a racing game that is supposed to be fast reflexes and arcade like, skipping/studdering frame rates are a big no no.
I hope this really long post helps you and your team to making more and better games in the future.
