I'm looking forward to delving into this at some point in the coming weeks or months once I clear the backlog a bit. Chrono Trigger and SMRPG are favourites of mine so anything taking a cue from those will likely be right up my street. I did play the demo and was getting into it but forgot to save after getting quite far and couldn't be bothered redoing everything. I was convinced enough by that point though!
@Not_Soos Bug Fables' characters do grow to be somewhat likeable, especially if you go out of your way to do the sidequests which - as far as I remember - build on their backstories as well as unlocking new abilities and items, Chrono Trigger style. World has some interesting lore too. I'd also love a new Paper Mario akin to the first two though.
My girlfriend bought me Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity but I didn't get round to playing it till months later, only to find there was no cartridge in the box. I thought surely I wouldn't have taken the cartridge out for any reason before then, so I'm sort of glad this is a recognised phenomenon, maybe I'm not crazy after all.
There's a subreddit called r/korok_irl where people post pictures of things like circles of rocks, acorns in tree hollows and suspicious flowers in the real world where a Korok might be hiding.
I imagine the calls for Geno would have intensified (and made more sense) now that there's a Super Mario RPG remake. Among others, I'd also loved to have seen a Resident Evil character - probably Leon since RE4 was such an iconic game and originally a Nintendo exclusive, but Chris or Jill would have been cool too.
@TheRealKyleHyde I'm absolutely the same - I try to avoid any leaks ahead of a new Pokémon game in order for it to be a surprise when new ones pop up.
I didn't get round to mentioning the Braille caves and the Regis in the article, but they left an impact on me too. The previous generations had legendary Pokémon hidden away too, but those intimidating, faceless golems gave Hoenn such an air of mystery.
I'm still playing it and will be for some time; I've only uncovered half of the surface map and even less of the depths and the sky. I'm enjoying discovering the new differences and getting lost in the wilderness all over again. I don't necessarily agree with the "DLC" argument but I appreciate the argument that it's too samey to BOTW for a lot of people.
It was the first place I felt compelled to visit too, having spent days of playtime just messing around there when I started BOTW. I didn't have the paraglider yet in TOTK and had minimal health so I had a tough time but it was nice to take a stroll down memory lane!
TOTK, obvs! I conquered the Fire Temple last night but I feel I've only just scratched the surface. I might also finish the last boss in my current playthrough of Resident Evil Village - started again when the third-person perspective DLC came out and have been going back to it intermittently.
I like both, but I'd go for the NA/Europe version - partly because I had that one and hold a lot of nostalgia for it, partly because it's a better representation of what the game looks like.
I had one of those when I was a wee yin. I remember going around a family Christmas do, asking people to give me a number to punch in to see which Pokémon came up. Who'da thought it had such a troubled past?
@BongoBongo123 Sorry for the late reply! I loved those games too. The Mario Game Boy games always felt quite different from the main series, some really underrated titles.
@sdelfin Yeah, the GBA was a great little console too. I remember it feeling quite revolutionary at the time, suddenly having 16-bit games on the go. I've been meaning to play Wario Land 4 again actually, that was one of my favourites from it.
@BongoBongo123 I have a particular fondness for them because they remind me of the time described in the article, but you're not alone in thinking that - I believe the YouTuber Arlo said the same thing but about Sword and Shield, which were two generations after X&Y!
I totally agree about Legends Arceus though, had loads of fun with that game despite being rough around the edges and had hoped it was a step in the right direction, but they regressed in Scarlet & Violet, to put it politely.
@GrandKaijuMaster20 I would pass the same people again and again without ever meeting them in real life! It was definitely satisfying to complete the puzzles - some of them were a particularly impressive use of the 3D, the StarFox one is particular.
@MetalKingShield Shantae and the Pirate's Curse was so good! I think that was one of the last games I played on the 3DS before the Switch stole my attention.

Re: Feature: How Summer Holidays And Childhood Nostalgia Revolutionised Pokémon
@SlowPokemon Well spotted! My understanding is that although the console is 32bit, the game's graphical output is still 16.

@dugan Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed!

@RadioHedgeFund Now I'm envisioning little Miis wearing face masks and having to socially distance in the Streetpass Plaza.
Re: Soapbox: 3DS' Boundless Creativity Got Me, And Nintendo, Through Some Tough Times
@Broosh The escapism of games can never be understated!

@dluxxx Perhaps mine too!
Re: Soapbox: 3DS' Boundless Creativity Got Me, And Nintendo, Through Some Tough Times
@Sequel Similar story to mine! Great to hear.
Re: Soapbox: 3DS' Boundless Creativity Got Me, And Nintendo, Through Some Tough Times
@BongoBongo123 I loved the Zelda remakes too. Pokemon X and Y hold some very fond memories as well, even if they've divided opinion since then.
Re: Soapbox: 3DS' Boundless Creativity Got Me, And Nintendo, Through Some Tough Times
@boxyguy That's so cool, how it could appeal to younger and older audiences!

@ManaOwls Yeah, it might be my favourite ever too - certainly one of them! I'll always remember how its great games brightened my days a little.
