Mega Man X3 SNES version has a fantastic OST which is top notch among the X series, sadly the OST later got ruined in the PSX version of X3 (even worst we got the PSX version in the MMX Anniversary collection).
I will give the game a solid 0/10 if you are a fan of the X / Mega Man series or a 8/10 if you are way too picky.
X3 SNES version is better than X6, X7 (the worst game in the series) X5, X8 and X2 (in my opinion) so not too shabby neither a bad game.
There's a mod out there wich allows you to use Zero as a fully playable character instead of a support only character and it is extremely fun to play (maybe due SNES limitations or time restrictions Capcom was unable to do so.)
P.S. Really check out the SNES version OST of X3 it shows the might of SNES sound chip.
100 % fully wholeheartedly agree with your comments about SFV
C'mon give me a break : "SFV a one of the best fighting games after the "free update" really ? don't make me laught. One of the best fighting games around with no arcade mode? and with an absolutely crappy rushed unfinished story mode? free update?? might I remember all of you who purchased the game paid a full price AAA game but got only an alpha instead? such updates are no free you paid for them already when Capcom rip you off selling an alpha content at a full AAA game. (Heck there are free demos which offer more content than SFV at launch).
If you want to see a relative new fighting game that offers honest and quality content check out Pokken Tournament or the recent King of Fighters XIV which despite its ugly PS2 type graphics its has solid mechanics and gameplay, lots of contents and is utterly fantastic fun.
No wonder why Pokken Tournament realeased in a console with a much smaller user base (Wii U) outsold SFV a game realeased in a console with the largest user base (PS4) and the biggest gaming community out there (PC).
The worst part of this SFV ultimate failure is they plunged fighintg games into a new dark era which is quite ironic since SFIV saved from the last one.
P.S. SorryEnglish is not my native tongue and I rarely use it in the country where I live.
I wonder if this game sells well that will encourage Nintendo to realease at least in digital form the remake of Fatal Frame 2 Crimson Butterfly in North America? BTW is 618.99 Mexican pesos the full game for those fellows in Mexico, I will go and get a couple of Nintendo Eshop Cards.
If Nintendo could remove the DS frames on the gamepad screen and make the screens a little bit bigger that would work perfect but sadly those DS frames only makes things more difficult.
Yoshi's Island DS is a fun game to play specially if you are a Yoshi fan just don't expect to be on the same league as the SNES/GBA prequel, more important Yoshi's Island DS is still a quality fun game compared to New Island.
The worst part in my opinión is the annoying music, besides that the game is quite nice and a worth purchase.
@legend_of_Shawn Check out this Virtual console realese it is the SNES version (not included in the Anniversary Collection) it has a VERY different OST from the one you got (PSX version)
I do not know one single person who has liked the PSX OST (excluding the reviewer) if they've listened before the SNES OST. Although I'm sure people with such preferences exist out there, and some might prefer actually the PSX tracks.
BTW the reviewer said: "There's one single weapon that will get most of the upgrades for you, which in itself is disappointing."
Well is the same in Mega Man X2, once you've defeated Wheel Gator you can get most of the armor upgrades and that game was not criticized for that in their respective NL reviews.
Actually that affirmation from the review is not even true in Mega Man X3, unlike in X2 in which you need Wheel Gator's simple weapon to get most of the armor upgrades; in Mega Man X3 you need at least 2 different enemy weapons (Thunnel Rhino's and Volt Catfish) plus the X-buster upgrade in order to get most of the armor parts, let's not mention the enhanced chips.
SNES X3 has better OST than X2, the second X game has overall a nice OST and there are a couple of good tracks like Flame Stag or Bubble Crab. However such tracks are actually few and less energetic than the Zero/X themes, Gravity Beatle, Neon Tiger, Blizzard Buffalo, Volt Cat fish, Blast Hornet or Doppler's Fortress OST's found in the third X game (SNES).
@mjc0961 I do agree Mega Man X6 is by far the worst of the 2d Mega Man X games, altough still quite an enjoyable game, X3 is much better than X6
The worst Mega Man X games are X7 and X8, still X8 is a fun game with nice 2d anime artworks (terrible graphics and lazy level design but nice once you ignored that), plus you can play as Alia and Vile returns from X1 and X3.
But X7 is such a disgrace although for fans it can be passable (it has a couple of nice tracks and stages overall, plus Axel is a nice addition as a hunter)
@shonenjump86 The main difference between the SNES and PSX is the OST and a few FMV cinematics. Try to listen both versions of MMX3 OSTs in youtube and then form an opinion of your own.
Personally (and have been playing the Mega Man X games since childhood) I think Capcom bastardized the music in the PSX version (which was included in the Anniversary Collection) so I prefer the excellent OST found in the SNES version which I rate quite high among the Mega Man X games (and Mega Man X 2d games are usually known for having great OST).
One of the few arranged PSX/PC tracks that are better or equal than their SNES counterparts in my opinion is Blizzard Buffalo stage, the rest are way worst and if you listened the original SNES tracks you probably are going to dislike or hate them.
But again the last two paragraphs are biased due it is my personal preference (and that of the people I've known) so I recommend you to listen to the OST of both games and form an opinion of your own,
I strongly disagree with this review, X3 is a great platformer, the OST is among the best of the MMX games (unlike the bastardized OST found in the PSX version) and the graphics are the C4 chip at its best. Playing as Zero is quite fun even if it is limited to certain areas plus multiple endings based on your actions and some nice extras (chips, golden armor and Z saber). Mega Man X3 for the SNES is truly a great game and does not deserve such an unfair low review based on the personal preferences of the reviewer.
I would recommend getting them on PC (STEAM?) or playing the games in a Tablet. I love the chapters of Ravenhearts in Mystery Case Files, there are 3 Ravenhearts games so far (a fourth in development I hear) the best one in my opinion is Ravenhearts 2 : Return to Ravenhearts, either way the atmosphere in the Ravensheart saga is absolutely fantastic (despite some gameplay issues).
Maybe if it got even a lower price I might consider it but for that money I prefer to get all the classic jewels of Castlevania available in the Wii Virtual Console and Wii Ware
@Algus Maverick Hunter X2 (Mega Man X2 remake) was on the works for the PSP about a year after the first Maverick Hunter X was released but since it got poor sales in Japan it was cancelled.
I trully love the Banjo Kazooie series and this game is the closest experience you'll get outside the 2 original N64 titles, it is such an amazing game for a handheld worth checking out. I wish Nintendo would purchase back Banjo Kazooie IP and we'll get Banjo 3 for the Wii U as it should have been done (I didn't like Nuts and Bolts).
@sdelfin Thanks it is good to find such an experienced fan of beat em ups who appreciates not only Sengoku 3 but also another great games. I think it was due license issues that Konami was unable to publish SNES/NES games of T.M.N.T in Virtual Console and the license ended in Ubi Soft hands which did a remake of TMNT IV Turtles in Time for XBLA (quite inferior to its original Arcade/SNES version in my opinion). That's too bad as only TMNT 1 for NES arrived to VC and that game it is not a beat em up (unlike the rest) but it is still a quality game overall.
With the online capabilities of this generation of consoles fighting and beat em up genres got a new scope of replay value which was abscent back in the day, as we can see with Final Fight 1 or the Streets of Rage collection on XBLA/PSN it is quite nice to play such games online with another dude. I truly wish SNK would release Sengoku 3 on XBLA/PSN with online capabilites that would definitive increase replay value a lot on a game that was already excellent but perhaps that's dreaming too much.
It is quite nice we can get hidden gems such as Sengoku 3 because back in the day this game never arrived to home consoles unlike Last Blade 2 or Garou MOW which arrived to Dreamcast and later PS2 (Last Blade 2 was on DC only). It gives the opportunity to players to experience great games that were lost in time unfortunately.
I hope D4 will continue to support Wii Virtual Console at least until some other great games are released
Actually Sengoku 3 has little in common besides the name with the 2 previous games as this one is based in another arcade beat'em up developed by Noise Factory called "Gaia Crusaders".
@Zodiak13
SInce this game was never released on home consoles it is difficult to get a more "accurate" opinion based on an avarage review.
However some of the few reviews out there (not only in English) based on the Arcade version agreed this game is possible the 2nd best 2D beat em up ever made (surpassed only by Capcom's Dungeons and Dragons Shadow over Mystara) and despite this game is not perfect some of them do gave this a 9/10. So in that sense it is not only my opinion (which may be a little biased due I am a beat em up fan) either way it is always better to play it and judge it by yourself .
Here's a link of a review (in Spanish) which gave the Arcade version a 91 back in 2009 (If you want an English review please check the link I post to hardcore gaming a couple of post above):
Finally one of the best 2D beat em ups ever made is here !!!! I've waited for so long for this game can't believe finally arrived to Virtual Console, this tittle is a true gem and a must have for Neo Geo and beat em up fans !!!!
@SuperMario2099 Sengoku 3 is considered by many (including myself) one of the best 2D beat em ups of all time plus the game really pushed Neo Geo capabilities (like Last Blade 2 or GMOTW)
I really wish Capcom releases Mega Man X3 (SNES version) for Wii Virtual console. I consider the X3 version of the SNES to be the best in the series (excellent OST) however Capcom bastardized the music in the PC/PSX version of X3 (which was the one included in the MMX collection unfortunately).
