If this is true, then knowing Sony, the price will likely be steep at $600+ at launch, $550+ if they make a Slim version, and $800+ if they make a Pro version. (minus $50 for digital-only versions of each of these consoles)
And if Sony still supports physical media by then, disc-based games may still be out of the question for a handheld.
Personally, I'd like to see upgraded versions of the original 2D Mario games (SMB1, SMB2, SMB3, Lost Levels, Super Mario World, and all three Super Mario Land games) in the style of Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster (for the 8-bit NES games, add a 16-bit mode (similar to Super Mario All-Stars), and give the GB games a full color mode), released individually on the eShop for up to $8 each digital-only, or all eight rolled into one single compilation (with some extras) for $50-$60 (or $70-$100 for a Deluxe limited edition version), physically and digitally, for the Switch 2 (or Switch 1 without the extras, for no more than $50). Perhaps even use the Mario Maker 2 engine.
Yes, I'm reaching, but still, you never can tell. Nintendo is full of surprises, positive and negative.
@HammerKirby
Censorship nothing. What we got was very minimal (and often going overboard), even without censorship. Besides, the Neptunia series (if that's what he's complaining about) is rated T (tame, compared to DOA, SK, and a few raunchy indie games that are still on the eShop to this day). This "censorship" may not apply to M-rated games. End of this part of the discussion.
Returning to the subject of this Direct, I agree, it was dull (okay, that was an understatement). The only good things that came out of it were Hyrule Warriors, the new Pac-Man game (I could care less about the game key card issues, as long as the Switch 2 even has a port at all), and a new Shinobi game.
@Thomystic
Do NOT bring that corrupt sleaze into this discussion!
The point is, Microsoft had more money. Even Activision tried to purchase Rare, but Microsoft easily outbid them. With game development costs rising and Nintendo no longer in the top spot of the game industry at the time, Nintendo had no chance of outbidding Microsoft back then. End of story! Case closed!
Microsoft always had FAR MORE money than Nintendo could spare back then.
Nintendo could have sold the ENTIRETY of the Mariners to the highest bidder and still wouldn't have gotten enough to outbid Microsoft. And the revenue was for far more important matters than fighting a bidding war they had no chance of winning.
@Thomystic
That was BEFORE Microsoft even thought of entering the video game industry, and furthermore, that was under the request of a US Senator at the time. Plus, that was merely around 1/8 of a billion-dollar acquisition. Microsoft could have bought the team for well over a full billion.
AFAIK, the only way it will be a PlayStation exclusive is if Sony entices Capcom with a lucrative exclusivity deal. And I seriously doubt Joy Cons are the issue with Street Fighter, considering there are numerous superior alternatives.

@Misima
You would have to pay the monthly fee BEFORE buying either of the headsets.

Re: Feature: What We Expect From Nintendo For Super Mario Bros.' 40th Anniversary
@Not_Soos
If that were to be the case, Nintendo would have to release a Switch 2 peripheral with a screen to give it that old DS look.

This is a controller adapter add-on, not a dock replacement.

As if Nintendo could afford to outbid a deep-pocketed company like Microsoft in the early 2000s.

There's nothing worth censoring in this game.
Re: DOOM + DOOM II Is Getting A New Limited Run Collector's Edition For $666
If I were a huge fan of Doom, I'd just get the standard editions for the Switch and Xbox.
