@WolfRamHeart I couldn't have said it better my self, though I'm severely disappointed that this isn't the Professional version. Ah well, I could always import it. Now, I need to go ice my head from headdesking at theguythatlikes' comment.
In the later years of the nineties, the "casual" gamers were considered to be the ones who only played FPSs: games like Doom, Quake, and later, Goldeneye. Now, the FPS-only gamers (and I use the term gamer extremely loosely) are the self-described "hardcore" gamers. What the hell happened?
If anyone's a hardcore gamer, it's someone like me, honestly. Someone who's very knowledgeable about games, enjoys games of most genres (though preferring some is totally fine; I can't stand FPSs), and who can enjoy games of all generations and enjoys a nice challenge.
I desperately hope this reaches America, though I already have and have beaten I, II, and III. Of course, if it's Dragon Quest, of course I'm going to buy it.
@ryanthehedgehog, Dragon Quest is indeed an acquired taste, only for the most well-developed of tastes. New or casual gamers would likely have a hard time becoming acclimated to its intricacies and classic battle-system and story-telling style. Maybe in a few years you should try it again.
In any event, yay for Europe. Very glad to see our English brethren finally getting this amazing game.
Following Dragon Quest tradition, he has no name, other than "Hero." Anyway, I made it through the laughably easy first round, though, thanks to school, I'll probably have to miss round 2.
The people who made the run most likely used a modified emulator that has certain tools to help them make the run. The major one is slowdown where they can run the game at however many fps (frames per second) they need for that part of the run. To give you a rough comparison, 60 fps nowadays is about average for a game running at its intended speed. Another tool they use that I'm sure you're familiar with are save states. They are essentially "save anywhere, anytime, under any circumstance" saves, and they most likely have them mapped to a easily accessed key, or, more likely, they have it set on some sort of timer, where it may save every couple seconds. I'm really not an expert, and all I know I've learned from watching and reading about TASs.
@42 Or, you know, it could be a hobby. "Too much time on your hands" seems to be the catchall response whenever someone puts a lot of time into something impressive.
@43 I'm sure someone has, though getting 16 stars is a much easier task, and I've done it many times on my N64. Anything under 16 stars requires much more abuse, whereas 16 stars really only requires 3 glitches.
Sigh I always cringe when looking at the comments of any TAS run, because I know there are always going to be people who post without knowing anything about TAS videos. The point of a TAS video is to show the absolute, closest to "perfect" time that a game could possibly be beaten. Part of the fun is in seeing just what kind of glitches and mechanics can be abused in games. The key thing to remember is this: An authentic TAS uses no cheating whatsoever. Slowdown and such is used, but the game's coding is never modified. Basically, while in some cases nearly impossible due to having to do things at a specific frame, everything you see in a TAS is possible on the game's original console. Just wanted to clear that up for those who don't seem to understand what they just watched, and to keep others from making further baseless claims that the video is "|-|4><" just because an emulator is used. I myself appreciate speed runs on consoles more than TAS, but, as previously stated, it's fun seeing games put to their absolute limits. TASs don't claim to be played without emulation.
tl;dr: TAS =/= Hax, no matter how similar the words are to eachother.
As far as gaming stuff goes, I got Sonic Colors for the DS, Donkey Kong Courtry Returns, a 2000 points card, Dragon's Lair Trilogy, Epic Mickey, Intellivision Lives!, 999, Muramasa, and Super Scribblenauts. I also got the two shirts and the DeDeDoll from Brawl in the Family and the DVD of Scott Pilgrim. And it would seem that in the near future I will be getting SnowBoard Kids 2. I feel pretty lucky to have gotten such a nice haul, though I don't think my backlog is thanking me.
@Otaku and LEGEND MARIOID All DS games are not region locked, unless they have DSiEnhanced features, in which case they can only be played on a DSi from the game's region, but it can be played on any region's DS Phat or Lite. For example, Pokemon Black and White are DSiEnhanced. For now, the only region's DSi they can be played on is one from Japan, but they can be played on any region's DSPhat or Lite.
Anyways, it's a shame that it's being delayed, though I'm not really liking the updated visuals, though I can understand why they feel the need to. It just doesn't look the same without it's homage MSX graphics.
I'm pretty excited for this game now. I was one of the few who really loved 3 on 3, and hearing that there are going to be Dragon Quest characters makes it all the more exciting! It's like Itadaki Street DS all over again.
@NintenDude97 I do want it, and I already have SMB1, 2, 3, and 1+Duck Hunt for the NES, Super Mario All-Stars for the SNES, Super Mario DX for the GBC, Super Mario Advance 1 and 4, and NES Series: Super Mario Bros. for the GBA, and I’ll still be getting this.
Great review. Glad I downloaded it on Monday. How do you guys say VIXIV? Personally I say 594. It's easier than saying "vee eye ex eye vee" or "vixiv."
@WildPidgeyAppears What makes this series my favorite of all time is something that many DQ fans share: That Squeenix isn't trying to change up the main series. Not many JRPG series have lasted as long as DQ and been able to stay so pure to it's original roots at the same time, which is a major plus in my and many others' opinions. If you don't like the traditional JRPG elements in previous DQs, which, to be fair, it pioneered, then you likely won't be interested in this game, and for that, you have my sincerest condolences.
Anyway, I can't wait until this game releases. It comes out a bit before my birthday.

Re: Wii has a Plan to Make Money with Fortune Street
I'll definitely be getting this. I have Itadaki Street DS and it's amazing, and combines my two favorite gaming worlds: Mario and Dragon Quest!
I've noticed that lately Nintendo seems to be more interested in exposing America to Dragon Quest than Square Enix.

Looks like I may have to make a Twitter account. Dragon Quest is my favorite series ever, and it'd be amazing to meet Horii-san.
Re: Review: Surfacer+ (DSiWare)
I had quite high hopes for this one; for some reason, I just knew it was gonna turn out good. Call it a gamer's intuition, I guess.
I do have a question, however, before I download it: How many levels would you say it has?

Oh sure, I just hope I didn't come off as a jerk.
E: And for the record, TAS is an acronym for Tool-Assisted Speedrun.

This is fantastic news. While, like Corbie, I own the SFC version, it'll be great to finally have this remake.
