Topic: Nintendo Account on Switch 1 and 2

Hiya everyone,
Anyone know if you will be able to have the same Nintendo Account on both Switch 1 & 2 at the same time? Or will you have to do an account swap which will wipe the Switch 1?? This is a big deal breaker.

They made it clear several times that Nintendo Accounts carry over from Switch 1 to Switch 2

@Bunkerneath I know what you're asking. That's a very good question. This has been a big sticking point when a home decides later to buy a second console only to discover a family member can't use the second switch with the same account, or can't share the game with a family member (another nintendo account/switch user), and they get an expensive surprise when they discover they may have to buy second copies of a game and make a new nintendo acount.

edit: My gut says, we should be allowed (I hope) to own and use a Switch and Switch 2 with the same account at the same time, since they are different console gens. I still think we'll be blocked from using one game license on two consoles at the same time. I guess we'll see.

You have option during the transfer to move or save the other accounts on the previous Switch. You have to read the instructions they give you when you do the transfers. You are given the options.

Nintendo says a few things fairly clearly implying that you can still use both devices. I assume it will be similar to having 2 Switches now but with some restrictions based on game type.

For example, the Nintendo webpage has this relevant piece of information about buying a Switch 2 update to a digital Switch game:

' After you upgrade, the original Nintendo Switch game can still be played on Nintendo Switch, though the features and content of the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition can only be played on Nintendo Switch 2.'

So you can go back and forth on the same account and game between Switch 1 and 2, although I'm not sure what happens with your save files considering the games have slightly different features.

I'm guessing the Switch 2 will default become the primary Switch and the OG Switch will become secondary and either need an internet connection or do that new "Virtual Game Card" thing where you can swap a game back and forth. I assume that's why they announced the Virtual Game Cards the week before the Switch 2 direct.

Yeah, this is a huge one for me too. I’ve got a Switch I use at home and was hoping to keep it set up for the kids if I grab the new one. From what I’ve seen, Nintendo’s been weird about multiple consoles on one account, so I’m really hoping they loosen that up with Switch 2. Worst case, I’ll keep one as primary and set the other for downloads. I actually got a second account through OGU a while back just for backup—super smooth and saved me some hassle.
