@Jhena
I think there is a society which still portraying some behaviors such as barbaric which adoring violence over than peaceful, the pride that blinded them into arrogance by looking down other people who look different and underestimated, the fixed mainstream society who keep following the trendy stuffs without having a lot of confidence to be different than their society.

No good deed
Will I do
AGAIN...!!!

Jhena

@Anti-Matter
Yeah, it is better to find your own way, especially if the society has fallen into depravity.

If anyone here is looking for an adult-leaning anime, but not because of violence or mature elements but because it is slow-paced and contemplative, I'd highly recommend Mushi-shi. At least in Europe it can be streamed on Crunchyroll.

M-rated and adult media is not more violent or sexual because adults need more violence or sex.

A child isn’t fully able to separate fiction from reality and it can be damaging to them to see disturbing content. An adult is (hopefully) more capable of discerning what’s right, wrong, real, or fake- so when it comes to media made for adults, they can use a wider array of themes as storytelling tools.

Of course this isn’t to say every adult needs to fall in line and graduate into consuming exclusively that kind of media; it simply to explain why m-rated materials are like that. The ratings are there for a reason it’s not just a “hehehe this one has naked people in it hehehhehehe!”-sticker.

@Jhena I think people actually get dumber with age in some regards. The more you see, the better the your point of view, but for most people, anything not strictly "normal" is unknown, and unknown is "scary", therefore wrong. They want to sit in their little trenches and tell themselves it's normal, instead of challenging their own ideas.

I am much more mature than when I was a teen, but I think most people are just teens who grow old as teens, they stop developing at some point and disregard things as stupid.

As for why media is dumber - down to earth explanation is Microsoft Excel. Corpos want money, nothing less, nothing more. And people consume easy to digest media because they can be consumed in large quantities, that kinda kills the pain. That's why there are no directors or screenwriters in live action tv shows, for instance.

The question is, has humanity fallen into depravity, or is it more clear that it has always been a mess?

I grew up on Grand Theft Auto III and look at me, I am fine

I announced this elsewhere on Nintendo Life, but I now have a Switch 2! Been playing Mario Kart World and having an awesome time with it. I wanted to have a different profile picture too, been playing as Toad with his train outfit lately. I might sound a bit giddy, but oh my goodness, he's just so cute wearing it!

@Pastellioli Sounds good to me, whatever you're comfortable with. I'm the same way, I've always favored drawing in certain ways... I would either draw from still life, or draw something more stylized. Yeah, drawing things in a diagonal angle is pretty hard, it might be easier to do it via still life though. Backgrounds are something I can struggle with too, I do want to make sure they look organic in terms of composition.

Good to hear you donated the crayons. Besides drawing, I've done oil painting as well, but I'm not too huge into it personally, just because it can get a bit messy. I like using colored pencils, but I've not done oil pastels. The water-based markers sound somewhat similar to watercolor, only without the brush of course. I did actually do a tiny bit of watercolor long ago, but didn't really like how it turned out, but I would like to try it again.

Platformers will always be one of my favorite game genres too. I do like racing and adventure games as well. I sometimes play RPGs, but I'd have to be in the mood for them since they can be long and have slow pacing. Yeah definitely... I don't think I'll ever give up Nintendo as long as I'm into games. I used to like PlayStation, but I lost respect for Sony about a decade ago after they started having their newer games be more like interactive movies. But yeah, I'm definitely proud to enjoy everything that I do enjoy... I believe it's important to just be yourself and love yourself for who you are. And of course, being a good person.

I mean, that is basically true, many of the Switch 1 games do run on the Switch 2. Out of all the games I have, the only one that has problems on Switch 2 is Layer Section/Galactic Attack. Apparently, there's a problem with game progression in it. On Tears of the Kingdom, thanks!

Yeah, I do remember hearing that the original vision of that Conker game did get criticized for being too similar to stuff like Banjo-Kazooie. It is cool they did release the game in some form for sure, albeit very late into the N64's life span, if I recall correctly.

As mentioned before, I got a Switch 2, which was bundled with Mario Kart World... and I'm having a blast with it. I don't have Donkey Kong Bananza just yet, but I do want to give it a shot sometime. Best of luck on avoiding spoilers.

I like to think, that I have still a lot to learn and that I will be a better person in a few years.

GTA III is so tame compared to the newer stuff. I still love Vice City, even if it is about crime. But it kinda has class compared to the new games. And the German version did not even have blood or those rampages. But yeah, a good person will in the end not be brought to become a bad person just because of media. Still, why would I want to consume darkness?

I want to believe that humanity was pure in the beginning, but I do not know why many people chose death. Maybe it is a lot harder to be good and people just give up. Or they just let themselves be seduced by evil. I hope everyone will find their way.

@Fiergala
Oh yes, this is one of my favourite animes! Absolut masterpiece. Journeying, learning, solving problems and helping people. The atmosphere is so beautiful, too.

@Jhena: Yeah, while I personally have no problem with fighting or violent anime, I am glad it seems younger people understand nowadays there's a lot more to the medium than just Dragon Ball Z and hent*i unlike when I was growing up when that was the overriding assumption.

@Jhena I hope so! I would love to be more optimistic, but as it stands, it is kinda hard nowadays, when good people are being trampled by the rich and powerful scum from above and the lowest scum from below. There is still good in the world, and I have met some fantastic people, but we are totally overwhelmed.

GTA III isn't as realistic, but it still had a dead body in a trunk, a guy blown up in a car bomb, people burned alive with molotovs and flamethrowers, and that one witness that lied helplessly on the street while you were runnning over him over and over. Still, Vice City had a guy cut to pieces with a chainsaw.

As for GTA games being about crime - I grew up a lot and I saw that thanks to GTA. As a kid I would just kill people for fun and make bloodsheds everywhere. Now I still love GTA III/VC but for a completely different reason. The city is just so nice to explore, like a little diorama you just want to look at. Story in III is simplistic, but it has great missions. VC had fantastic storyline. Both are just brimming with their cities' vibes. And the music, oh the music. What a masterpiece that was. Flash FM, Emotion, Lips 106, it introduced me to so many genres and composers. I still remember that one song that was performed only for the game, by a group of people who never made any song again (I think?).

So I appreciated the work put into making this little environment. I didn't even want to commit any crimes outside missions, there was no point. But finding new ways of completing missions is still turbo fun.

So why would you consume darnkess? Idk, I did it because it felt edgy, and now I am happily immune to it now.

People believe in good until it is inconvenient or it doesn't fit their worldview. Or they are taught to be evil from the get go. Look at what happens in Syria now. It's disgusting, revolting.

I think humanity is just now discovering that throughout all those thousands of years, or even the whole evolution process, we behaved like animals and our programmed alghoritms had greater influence on us than we wanted to believe.

@Fiergala I was lucky to grow up in the early 00s, when we were discovering classics, and anime was ambitious because it had to cather to people who demanded quality. Nowadays anime is fine too, but they are too repetetive and too "we need to make money so let's make another isekai with male swordsman" and less anime have really deep lore or story

It can feel overwhelming, but do not forget that you alone decide which way you go. They can try to seduce you, but it is your choice, whether you let it happen or not. Even if you are all alone, it does not matter.

Seriously, I love the vibe and the music of Vice City. My parents listened to a lot of 80's music, when I was very young, so I kinda grew up with those songs.

Red Dead Redemption II was the game, when I really realised that I do not want to play these dark open worlds anymore. The world is so beautiful and detailed. I just loved to explore the world, and I was just walking and riding very slowly. Or riding the train, enjoying the scenery and going to the theater. Helping in the camp and feeling, that your people are thankful, felt awesome, too. In moments like these the game is simply perfection. But then you do the missions and have to be a killing monster. The whole time, I was just thinking, why can't they lay low and why do they have to make their situation worse and worse. Like the priest who drinks more and more. It was like watching zombies. These games nowadays are so drowned in forced misery and violence. I just feel pity for the unused potential of such a beautiful and detailed world.

Animals are entertaining, but it is for the best not to be like one.

I have very different way of thinking when I was teen as I didn't like with the teenager stereotype which I oftenly saw from mass media that portraying teenagers as the rebel, teenagers like to talk with rude and slang language, teenagers like to having romantic relationship too early, teenagers oftenly get into bullying, teenagers got into fight with other students, etc.
I felt disgusted with those teenager stereotype, even before I was grade 10. And because of that, I completely have awareness to see my classmate during senior high school and hopefully nothing bad happened to me and if there is something that will provoke my awareness, I will fight for it.
I said NO to romantic relationship.
I said NO to get involved with negative activities.
I said NO to follow my friends when I clearly see something that doesn't sit right for me.
And because of this, I separated myself from my classmate, only want to talk with the good students but still very distant.

I was Anti-Romantic when I was teen as I didn't like cheesy romantic teenager stuffs (stories / movies) so I decided to create my own franchise, the fictional police department heroes inspired from NYPD Blue, Martial Law (Sammo Hung), VIP (Pamela Anderson) during early 2000's era. I still remember every characters I have created since when I was teenager with every single trivial stuffs.
When I grew up, the character design and biography got changed again after I have ever watched CSI NY and Miami during my college age, but after I get into Chibi drawing, I have no longer interest with CSI stuffs as I thought I violated my own rules to get too far into mature stuffs from police departments. And since then, I completely changed all my police departments character biography by made it more kids friendly as I still remember my original version of their biography and way darker than the Chibi version.

Oh, btw.
I was talking about my first franchise B.A.P.D
Blue Asterion Police Department.

Cool, thanks for sharing. I was wondering where your interest for the police came from. A little bit late to say this, but I like your profile picture.

Also, staying true to yourself, no matter if you are a teenager or an adult, is very cool.

@MarioVillager92 cograts on the Switch 2! The new PFP is cute!
I am teaching myself to do digital art, but mostly I like to sketch in pencil, while I do more 'complete' art with watercolors! I also like to use pen for quick 'grafitti-style' art.

@Anti-Matter thanks for sharing! It stinks that teens are alwayr shown that way. I know sterotypes come from taking part of the truth (usually bad parts) and blowing it out of proportion, but sadly a lot of people seem to believe it. Too bad... Hopefully we can get to a point that it isnt so blatant.

@CaleBoi25, yeah, I saw you on my friend requests list recently! 😃 Unfortunately, I just recently started a 2 school years in one school schedule (I was delayed by a year when I was 5 and want to catch up in order to graduate sooner), but I usually play an hour every day, so perhaps we could find a time depending on what games we play!

Also, I felt glad to myself when I was teenager, I didn't follow popularity or copying my classmate as I knew what was fit for me and even during my teen age, I never like rated 18+ games when a lot of my classmate especially the boys already get into the rated 18+ games and movies before their proper age. Those things happened really built my concern with mass media effect for kids without parental supervision. Even when I was teen, I never idolized any popular peoples, never trying to be die hard fan of popular stuffs, never hang out with my classmate. I separated myself from those teenager stereotype and that's why I built my own favorite things, mostly completely opposite with what common people like.
I have interest with Boxing / Kickboxing but never like soccer, don't have interest with basketball and other mainstream sports.
I would like to try Boxing or Baseball or Tennis rather than play soccer or basketball.
I personally prefer Solo sports than the Group sports as it felt fit with my personality that I identified myself as Lone Wolf because I tend to be alone, doesn't want to hang out with other people unless I see the match interest with me and I don't care with popularity as I have my own interest that fit with me.

Oh, btw.
I grew interest with Boxing since when I was kindergarten, well because my mom had a VHS of video compilation of Betamax video demo including Rocky 3 opening theme Eyes of Tiger and it fascinated me to see the boxers with muscular body and Boxing attire.
And that's why you see my avatar a cute Chibi Boxer with not ordinary looking. 😅
