September is here and it's another action-packed month for the Nintendo Switch. Splatoon 3 is likely to be the main focus for many this month, but there are also plenty of other games worth a look.
We've got titles like JoJo and Monkey Island returning. Taiko no Tatsujin and Shovel Knight are back, and then there's some entirely new IP like Temtem and Square Enix's The DioField Chronicle.
Felix has rounded up everything that's on offer in the video above. Here's the rundown:
Anno: Mutationem - 1st September
Lego Brawls - 2nd September
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R - 2nd September
Temtem - 6th September
BPM: Bullets Per Minute - 8th September
Splatoon 3 - 9th September
Bear and Breakfast - 15th September
Return to Monkey Island - 19th September
OneShot: World Machine Edition - 22nd September
The DioField Chronicle - 22nd September

No mention of the Disney Dreamlight Valley Early Access? That, Taiko no Tatsujin and Splatoon 3 are def my September must haves
14 exciting new games? Not interested in any of them (back to the backlog I guess).
This list just might as well be "Return to Monkey Island comes out in September (oh and here's Splatoon and 12 other games you might like)"
Ahoy matey, there be some Guybrush Threepwood in yar futures… along with LeChuck!
Some good ones for sure.
@progx Don't forget Murray
BPM and Life is Strange for me. October is what's really stacked with Needy Girl Overdose, Harmonia, Persona 5 Royal, Alan Wake Remastered (possibly), Bayonetta 3 and Chaos;Head Noah / Chaos;Child Double Pack.
Haiku the Robot is what I'm excited about in September.
Maybe Shovel Knight for me, but I still need to get Pocket Dungeon. Not to mention, everything is getting expensive and money is getting tight these days. Today's purchases of Mario Strikers: Battle League and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury as well as Kirby's Dream Buffet when that came out might be my last Switch purchases of the year.
I’m probably going to get splatoon and I’m thinking xiii will be releasing early this month. If they actually iron out all the problems XIII had I’ll get it but I’m not holding my breath.
I will wait for the NL review on JoJo. I've already had seen a review of the Switch version on ANN(Anime News Network...?)... But that's don't enough.
Haiku the Robot for me and Splatoon 3 for the wife.
Shovel Knight Dig perhaps? Monkey Island perhaps? Diofield… perhaps… Square, I need to say good job to you for this year every post I can.
@Vyacheslav333 Our JoJo review should be live early next week.
Trails From Zero & The Diofield Chronicle fun for me! 😊
I picked up JoJo on Steam as I was worried about Switch performance. I do plan to pick up Splatoon 3 and Shovel Knight Dig on Switch, though! I'll look into DioField Chronicle, but I'll probably wind up waiting on it a bit (still need to play the demo, so maybe that'll change my mind).
@JustMonika I keep forgetting Chaos;collection is still on the way to switch, but so glad to finally see the first game also getting properly localised. Never made much sense to me that we had the sequel available in places but never head.
Splatoon 3 is the only interesting looking game out of these but even then I'm still not buying it
Not super excited by this month personally, but there are a few tempting games. Anno: Mutationem looked interesting but the review had some things I would consider pretty big red flags so I'm undecided. Splatoon is neat, but the team battle emphasis is just not enough my preferred game genre to spend $60 dollars on; I still hope for a Splatoon spinoff game someday which is a full adventure game or platformer or rpg. Definitely getting the Life is Strange collection someday but my visual novel backlog is large so I'll be waiting for a good sale before I snag that one.
Only Taiko no Tatsujin from that lot.
I'll consider Splatoon 3 a couple of years from now if they reissue it with the inevitable paid DLC (plus updates) on the cart and/or release it as a Switch 2 launch title.
OK I guess we don't do ports here, but the biggest games for me are gonna be No Man's Sky and Nier Automata.
@valcoholic they come October right?
I am waiting for let’s build a zoo. Its listed for September but still has no date
Not really interested in any of those but have a massive backlog so will work through them until Sonic Frontiers comes along I guess.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
It will be very interesting to see how Splatoon performs sales wise, the previous game sold 13.3 million copies, so I am expecting this to do better, also if it creates a spike for the hardware.
@ferryb001 yeah both come out pretty much in the same window around October so I'm not sure but I guess (depending of the reviews) I'm gonna get NMS and later around christmas NIER.
It just felt weird to see these two, huge and hyped games missing on this list. yes, yes, ports, but jesus, Nier is one celebrated game. NMS maybe not so much but the idea of having this endlessly wide universe inside that tiny console is just amazing.
This is a great month for me. ANNO: Mutationem, Haiku the Robot, The DioField Chronicle (will wait for reviews on this one), Shovel Knight Dig, and Trails From Zero are all games I’ll more than likely purchase.
@valcoholic Neir doesn’t release until October, and this article is specifically for September.
@BlackMayge oh wow, it seems I didn't have enough coffee, I swore this was about games in fall lol; must have overseen the word september written all over the place
thanks for clarifying
This month is going to be absolutely stacked in terms of new releases, I swear. I'll be getting Splatoon from this list myself but am also interested in Return to Monkey Island and Lego Brawls!
@JustMonika And Nier and No Mans Sky!
Splatoon and Shovel Knight are the only ones that interest me. And, perhaps, DioField
The Diofield Chronicles, Trails from Zero and MONKEY ISLAND for me almost for sure.
Waiting for reviews on Temtem and Splatoon.
Great month overall, although October will be a blast!
Also it's worth mentioning the physical release of pretty great indie games such as Baldo, Souldiers and Fist during this month.
Why nothing (on whole NL site) regarding Disney dreamlight valley? At least I hope this finally would replace Disney infinity, so I can unplugg our Playstation3…😊
@valcoholic You're confusing months, man. Those come out in October.
Correction: 14 boring games coming to switch in September 😆
Not too excited about these titles, save for Bear & Breakfast.
Don’t forget Gerda: A Flame in Winter (released Sept. 1), Potion Permit (Sept. 22), Beacon Pines (Sept. 22), and Lemon Cake (Sept. 30). Been waiting some time for these cozy games!
@Kiyata I can't help but wonder what type of games you like to say that games like Splatoon or Monkey Island are boring...
@Takoda Yeah exactly.. you can buy a physical copy of Harmonia from PlayAsia if you want. It came out years ago on PC but is now going to be on Switch. It's from Key and I'll buy anything from them. I'm sure you must be familiar with Clannad, Kanon, Air, Little Busters, Angel Beats or the currently airing Prima Doll? They definitely got some lineage on them.
@Takoda You can also get Loopers from PlayAsia which is published by Key and written by the guy who did Higurashi.
Do we have a date for Q.U.B.E.: 10th Anniversary yet? The Switch version is still a Coming Soon, while everyone else has got a hard date of the 14th! Hell, I don’t think we’ve even had the sequel’s DLC that everyone else has yet! 💢
@somnambulance dude Haiku the Robot looks to hit all the right notes. It seems to be Hollow Knight meets Gato Roboto imo, can’t wait!
I didn't realise how stacked this month was. Splatoon 3 is my main pick with Anno, TemTem and BPM being my potential extras.
Though saying that I haven't got through to even buying a lot of the games I've wanted in previous month's like Cult of the Lamb, Elechead, Kirby, Card Shark and the Voice of cards games....
@nymbosox Gato and Hollow are both two of the finest Metroidvanias ever. I’m hoping this one is more Gato than Hollow though for the playtime, as the wife will not be letting me touch the Switch when Splatoon arrives. I may be tackling the
PS and Xbox backlog for the next two months if she lets me use the TV at all. Lol. I’m really looking forward to Haiku though, as two of my top three indies for the year got delayed and the game is almost verbatim the type of game I’d been wanting to add to my wishlist all year.
@Liam_Doolan Oh! Thank you for informing...! I will wait.
@somnambulance touche. Gotta get that second switch man, just one for you lol. My wife loved to hog the switch all the time to play botw, so I eventually got her her own. And yeah im hoping playtime is 10-15 hours, thats a solid playthrough imo. Which 2 indie games are you referring to?
Not much out of the list I'm into this month, but Shovel Knight Dig has certainly piqued my interest. Especially after watching the excellently hammy trailer. XD
@nymbosox 9 Years of Shadows and Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. Love when indies have industry vets working on them. But really a nice 10 hour Metroidvania sounds perfect to me. I remember getting Gato Roboto in December 2019 and putting Pokémon Sword, Death Stranding, and one other game I can’t remember 100% on hold for it. Death Stranding became my favorite game of all time, so I’ll always give Gato special props for it. It was just so good to play. Just good fun, you know? I like when games have that feeling and I think Haiku might do that.
It’s not completely ruled out with me getting a second Switch. I sort of want to get my son a Switch and he can share with his mom. Lol. She’s one of those people that plays Splatoon and Animal Crossing only, but with an unfathomable amount of hours to me. Both games have hundreds of hours on my Switch. Nothing I’ve played has cracked 100 hours, not even BotW.
Splatoon 3, it's already pre-loaded to my Switch
Couldn't be more excited for the Monkey Island game I've been waiting for since the last millennium.
Another terrible month, but it's all good, October is the where it all comes together.
I don't think there is anything in September that has my interest, which is perfectly fine as I have plenty of other games on my want list, that I put off buying, as I was making getting married (it's hard to believe I've been married for a month already) a priority over gaming.
