Update: Nintendo has waved the checkered flag! Wave 2 is now ready to race for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe owners in all regions! Get on over to the track, get your updates downloaded, and pull up at the starting line.
We'll see you there, and keep an eye out for our impressions of the eight courses in the near future!
Original article [Thu 4th Aug, 2022 11:40 BST]: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will be full to the brim with racers new and old as Wave 2 of the Booster Course Pass launches later today on Switch!
Finally revealed last week after lots of fan speculation, Wave 2 brings another eight courses to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, on top of the first eight that Wave 1 brought us back in March.
The update drops at 3pm BST today, so get ready to hop back in the driver's seat. No official times have been confirmed for other regions, but we suspect that it'll be roughly the same time across the board.
In case you've forgotten what courses are being added in Wave 2, well, we've got you covered:
- Turnip Cup
- Tour New York Minute (Mario Kart Tour)
- SNES Mario Circuit 3 (Super Mario Kart)
- N64 Kalimari Desert (Mario Kart 64)
- DS Waluigi Pinball (Mario Kart DS)
- Propeller Cup
- Tour Sydney Sprint (Mario Kart Tour)
- GBA Snow Land (Mario Kart: Super Circuit)
- Wii Mushroom Gorge (Mario Kart Wii)
- Sky-High Sundae
Of particular note is the last course in the Propeller Cup, Sky-High Sundae, which is a brand new course. While all seven other returning tracks have already been added to the mobile game Mario Kart Tour, Sky-High Sundae is debuting in Deluxe before making its way to your phones.
Remember, if you have a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass subscription, you'll have access to these new courses for free. If not, and you haven't already bought the Booster Course Pass, you can grab it right now!

@Member_the_game I've just had word with your hotel about the lack of entertainment, so they've agreed to send you a copy of Contra: Rogue Corps as a gesture of goodwill.

Actually, GBA Snow Land is also making its debut in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Yes. Wahooo
Thanks
@TrueFantasia Actually, GBA Snowland debuted on Mario Kart Super Circuit.
But I get what you mean. 😄
The hype and anticipation for MK8 DLC is quite high. Dare I say it's matching the same levels as new Smash character reveals/releases
This will be a good thing to return from therapy to
16.00 Uhr in Deutschland
I know I already paid for it months ago, but the idea of some "free" courses being added is quite exciting.
Mushroom Gorge let's go!
Coconut Mall has been updated!
I am so ready to race on Sky-High Sundae and Waluigi Pinball!
With a Coconut Mall update. Nice little surprise.
I absolutely love the little swivel the cars do in Coconut Mall now. Looks so energetic and aggressive.

Edit: k yea they are in worldwide rotation
Help it’s not working for me
@VancouverVelocityFan
Try manual updating by pressing plus on the Home Screen, then selecting “update via internet”.
@JTTS Yes! The courses are in the online rotation right now!
Although I liked the Wave 2 a lot I would prefer to be 2 cups with only Tour courses and not be in other cups because most of them are in real cities and they always seem strange to me for a Mario Kart game (and I don't like that much that every round is different). I wish we could have more GC and Wii courses instead.
What? This thing still around?
downloaded
@Marioman2022 god bless America lol
Did they change Kalimari desert? I don’t remember that ramp on lap 2 being there 🤔
@Nightcrawler71 the ramp definitely wasn't in the N64 version but neither was going along the rail tracks either right? I mean I did it lots playing with my sis when younger...we used to go off road/off circuit on that racetrack lots. Unless I'm going mad!
I'm excited to see the DLC and welcome any new tracks we can get, but I have to say that the first half of the Turnip Cup was pretty underwhelming. The Tour tracks are middling at best, in large part because they're loosely based on real world locations, which limits what can be done with the tracks themselves, and New York Minute is a prime example of that blandness.
The SNES original Mario Kart is the game that kicked off the franchise, and it stands to reason some of its courses would be included, but as constituted the Mario Circuit track shows that Nintendo's approach here might need adjustment. Obviously they were going for that same flat, Mode 7 aesthetic, but the end result is a track that is flat and comparatively dull (even the background, while matching the aesthetic, looks lifeless and uninspired). On top of that, with only one or two sets of item boxes along its entire course, getting behind may be insurmountable. If Nintendo is upgrading GBA tracks like Snow Land and Sky Garden with current-gen visuals, sloped tracks, and other improvements, then I personally think the SNES courses deserve similar treatment.
Overall though, I enjoyed this wave and look forward to seeing what Nintendo does with future ones.
@Munchlax it did it eventually (just 20 minutes late) but thanks for trying to help anyway!
