Sales of the mighty Nintendo 3DS are truly starting to grind to a halt now, but software sales continue to trickle in as the transition to Switch continues to take place.
We've already looked at the top ten best-selling Switch games earlier today, but let's now shift our attention to the 3DS for old times' sake. It probably won't come as much of a shock that Mario Kart 7 is still in pole position, and it actually sold around 300,000 copies in the last six months.
The following list shows the best-selling Nintendo-published 3DS games as of 31st December 2019, with both physical and digital sales included:
Top Ten Best-Selling Nintendo 3DS Games (as of 31st December 2019):
1) Mario Kart 7 - 18.68 million
2) Pokémon X and Y - 16.44 million
3) Pokémon Sun and Moon - 16.18 million
4) Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire - 14.26 million
5) New Super Mario Bros. 2 - 13.32 million
6) Super Mario 3D Land - 12.67 million
7) Animal Crossing: New Leaf - 12.45 million
8) Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS - 9.57 million

Of how I wish Fire Emblem Awakening and Xenoblade 3D and A Link Between Worlds (my 3 favorite 3DS games) could have sold more... They truly deserved it.
However, I'm happy to see that my 4th favorite, Mario 3D Land, made this list
I'm glad Tomodachi Life is still on Top 10 Best selling. 😀
I'm pretty sure I own none of those. I might have one of the Pokemon games, I can't actually remember.
I bought Persona Q2 on January 1st, and I think there's a chance it might be my last 3DS game.
Is this including all the copies of MK7 that are sold with systems? That game comes with nearly every system now.
i stil want one for the N64 Zelda remakes.
Nintendo needs to do a better job at attracting AAA 3rd party games to make this list
In Game Profile I still love how the Mariokart DS cover is still connected to Mariokart 7
Animal Crossing just around the corner 🥳
Please give us another entry in the Tomodachi series!
Online is still free on 3DS, which is why I still play MK7. In some ways it's actually better than MK8.
Mario Kart 7 is what sparked me to get a Switch. Love that game and the 3D - makes it look surreal.
Weird, @Bunkerneath is right, NL's Mario Kart 7 page has Mario Kart DS cover. 🤔

Wouldn’t it be amazing if Nintendo announced in their next direct that those ambassador gameboy advantce games were finally coming to 3DS? One last swan song release for the system to make
It that much better. I’m actually playing through all the Mario & Luigi’s right now. I’m taking a small break from Bowsers Inside Story and playing though FE: Fates. I’m loving my 3DS!
@ChromaticDracula
Don't do that
Don't give me hope
Switch Top 10 (131.5 mill.) is already 2.7 million more than the 3DS Top Ten (128.8 mill. - but 3DS has backwards compatibility so I guess you gotta give it some allowance for DS software sales too).
Shocked the word Zelda isn't on that list.
I have Mk7, nsmb2, Super Mario Bros Land, Tomodachi Life, AC and SSB..... I got AC and NSMB2 free from a digital promotion....
@kepsux As a Zelda fan myself, I love the 3DS for being one of the best Zelda systems around, being handheld and having official access to an incredible amount of Zelda games, originals, ports, remakes, and spin-offs (ambassador programme Minish Cap, Tingle spin offs for DS, and the no longer available digital only DSi ware Four Swords included... And even a Twilight Princess Picross game!).
But Link Between Worlds definitely deserves to be on the list... A lovely, original, and still exclusive game.
Sad that no third party made it to the list especially any Monster Hunter game or at least Zelda Link Between Worlds and really surprised about tomadachi life making to the list surpassing even Zelda
Well...I just have a Super Mario 3D Land from this list and can't say, that it is a great game. Some sad, that such a horrible conveyor like Pokemon been sold so good.
No new games, then no 3ds sell.

@Smashfan502 It's a sort of sequel, in sort of the same world, but as you said, most Zelda games are sort of the same story in sort of the same world. Which doesn't make any of them less "original games" when they're not ports or remakes. New art style/story/characters/puzzles/dungeons/items/enemies/alternate world/mechanics/... I'd say that's enough to call a new Zelda game an original game in the series, no? It's definitely not a remake or re-imagination, let alone a port or remaster. It's a different game that somewhat recycles the map design of LTTP, completely redone.
There's plenty of "original games" that are far less original in the sense of what they bring, like military shooters, annual sports games series, racing sims,...
@Dman10 Nintendo only reports their own numbers dude.
