In the follow-up Q&A to Nintendo's six months earnings report, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has been asked if the company would consider developing more remakes based on classic handheld IPs, now that the 3DS has seemingly been ditched and the Switch Lite is available.
This was his reply, courtesy of a translation via Siliconera:
With the release of the Nintendo Switch Lite, there is a possibility to bring back titles that have previously been developed for handheld consoles. However, within Nintendo, rather than rereleasing past handheld games because of the Nintendo Switch Lite’s release, we are discussing more what sorts of new games we can create for the entire Nintendo Switch family. Within that, we are also considering past titles, but regarding what sorts of discussions are being held in detail, there is nothing I can say at present.
Following this question, Furukawa was asked to break down the recent success of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening and Pokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! on the Switch.
He reiterated how creating new game experiences – even within remakes – was "more important" than nostalgia, and went on to explain how Link's Awakening managed to combine both:
Regarding the future, there is no clear directive to release remade titles. On one hand, in our 30 years of game console business we have made many past games that have been played by a many people, which have left strong impressions on them, and this is a very valuable asset to our company. Nostalgia is one great appeal, but even in remake titles, what’s more important is to create new game experiences, fun, and more. More than anything, we believe that passion towards wanting to remake the game from the creator of the original game is very important. For a recent example, Link’s Awakening, which you previously mentioned, is a good example of a game that has been reviewed by customers as both ‘nostalgic’ and ‘new’.
In a rare western interview with TIME last month, the current Nintendo president said it was vital for development teams to "try something new" and have the "courage to step into unfamiliar territory" with their ideas.

Pretty much open to anything. A new advance wars would be great (and F-zero)
I'd like to see them bring the rest of the Wii U library to Switch. I believe the only things left that are worth it would be Star Fox Zero and maybe the Wii Sports series? Would love to see Wii Bowling for Switch. It's a great game to play with family and friends. ^^
Bring all of those ps4 games to the Switch i dont freakin mind. I havnt played them yet anyways
@SuperGhirahim64
How about that and the classic DKC trilogy too? I’d be happy for straight ports because I loved them all on the SNES. Perfect even on one cart, one can dream.
Kid Icarus Uprising HD.
I guess if you HD remake a console game (Xenoblade, Wind Waker, or one of the latter Final Fantasy games), your starting off with the framework in place (The models, the camera, the UI and maps etc...). When you remake a hand held game like Links Awakening, everything is rebuilt from the ground up so it’s really like making a new game that tries to emulate the feel of the original, so it costs more, but you still have the ‘this is just a remake it should be cheaper’ argument.
They got away with making Links Awakening because so many people love Zelda, but I bet if they tried to bring a less famous game to the Switch they may come unstuck.
Here's hoping (in vain) for a remake of Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn. Or even a remake and localization of Genealogy of the Holy War or Thracia 776. With luck, they won't be sitting idle on the 30th anniversary of Fire Emblem next year.
Just release Zelda: Wind Waker HD, Twilight Princess HD and I'm good.
Maybe Super Mario 3D World although I'd rather have a sequel.
@kenyowa Yes! The Tellius games are still my favorite. I would love some remastered versions of those and localizations of the older titles.
I'm completely open to and happy to buy HD remakes and reimaginings but obviously I think most of us would prefer new entries in the series.
It's a lot less work to get classic titles on NSO than to remake them from the ground up. Let's get Gamecube, N64 and Game Boy/GBA games on NSO please!
Wouldn't be surprised if more old handheld Zelda games got ported to the Switch, starting with the Oracle games.
Though I'd still very much prefer a new 2D Zelda game. They can keep the Link's Awakening engine though...
Dammit I hope this doesn’t mean we’re not getting Metroid Prime Trilogy...
I think wii U games that could work:
Super Mario 3D World
Starfox Zero
Project Zero
Re release Twilight Princess and Windwaker HD
Wonderful 101
It would also be nice to see nes and snes remix get added to the switch online service.
After that Skyward Sword stands out to me as a game that could work again due to the switch controllers. In fact I'd be surprised if it wasn't in development already.
FZero GX (or AX) would be excellent if we aren't going to get a proper one and finally HD versions of the Mario Galaxy games in a double pack would be really good.
@westman98 yeah defo though I’d prefer link to the past myself!
Okay, so what about a remaster of Paper Mario TTYD, and a new entry afterwards (like the original ones)? And what about a remaster of Metroid Prime Trilogy, and then the fourth one? And a remaster of F-Zero GX?
We want Paper Mario, Metroid, and F-Zero on Switch!
Both sound good. And I mean specifically, a new F-Zero or a remake of F-Zero GX.
Bravely default remake..
uhhhh remake ttyd and have the new experience be the really super pretty graphics
I’d honestly love to see them porting Mario 3D World, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess from the WiiU (the only great games in the console’s library they haven’t ported so far IMO), and then perhaps something like Fantasy Life, Ever Oasis, the Layton games and the Story of Seasons/Popolocrois crossover from the 3DS. Though there are so many good releases on the Switch at the moment that I could happily play for a year without needing to buy a single game...
Switch should at least get the nvidia shield HD remasters, both galaxy and Zelda would clearly sell like hot potatoes and fill the lack of releases scheduled post Pokémon.
I’d like to see a remake of the original NES Zelda using Link’s Awakening as a basis. All the graphics and gameplay would be completely redone to match Link’s Awakening, so it would basically be Link’s Awakening with the maps and dungeons of Zelda 1. And of course there would be a huge focus on visual variety. The opening area of Zelda 1 would now be a village but would retain the same wall and block placement; some blocks would now become villagers that you can talk to.
In my deepest delusions I'd like to see a Hotel Dusk/Last Window port that not only uses the original res the art was drawn in but to fully show 3D models of the characters when moving around(they look like cardboard cutouts), ditch first-person for third-person view. Have the music use real instruments.
But closer to reality I'd like to see The Sacred Stones in the Radiant Dawn style. Not sure what I'd add though, that game is perfect as it is.
@Severian I'd love ports of the classic DK trilogy. The recent 2D DKC games just aren't anywhere near as good in my opinion and the music on the SNES titles is so much better.
I would love to have straight ports of Fire Emblem 7 and 6 (localized by Nintendo) in a combo pack. Also the original Donkey Kong Country trilogy as someone already suggested. And while thry are at it, why not port Donkey Kong Country Returns. #wishlist
I'm all for new experiences, but I like to have the original games too.
I agree that remakes is too much, but remasters, HD ports, and definitive editions should still be a thing. Like having the first two bayonettas, while making a third. Hopefully releasing Metroid Prime Trilogy before MP4. I feel like Luigi's Mansion 1 and 2 should also have been ported, and there's a half dozen Zelda games that could be easily ported. And they wouldn't need to be released at £50 each. The beauty of these are they are relatively cheap to produce.
I feel like anything GC, Wii, and Wii U could be ported easily without the amount of work that a full remake would require.
Still waiting for a Zelda Twilight Princess HD port from the WiiU.
I would like a complete remake of Mario Sunshine. Use the engine of Mario Odyssey to remake Sunshine, add a few scenes, and change the things that are stupid. Like Yoshi dying in water.
Ice Climber HD, 1080 Snowboarding, Wave Race.
@San_D I would also love to see the SNES Fire Emblems (Genealogy of the Holy War and Thracia 776) given a remake much like Fire Emblem Gaiden was remade for the 3DS - I really loved Shadows of Valentina!
I’ve never played them but they have a popularity in the FE community and much of the series staples stems from these titles.
Agree with all above.
Want Mario 64 remastered it can’t be that hard x any f zero x any starfox x any Metroid x please x wave race, 1080 x I know Nintendo like to innovate but a new starfox game with 20 or so levels each time can’t take years can it? X x x x
I really want a new Donkey Kong Country game, it is about time! While waiting for that I would love to play SNES DKC games and port of DKC Returns in HD.
They should straight up port the Wii U versions of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. Easy money.
But in terms of remakes, I would love Super Mario Galaxy, Skyward Sword, Eternal Darkness and maybe Earthbound or Mother 3? Imagine Earthbound with Link's Awakening's artstyle!
I would love to see a new (or remake of the fiestv2) Paper Mario, 007, port all 3 Pikmin games, Super Mario Kart (nee Mario kart with all the tracks from past games, past characters, costumes like in MKtour, new modes, etc),
@Shade_Koopa Xenoblade Chronicles X, Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101 for a start
That’s cool and all. I’m just tired of Nintendo treating their old classics like it’s constantly the Disney Vault.
@Jooles_95 Yeah I'd love to see Xenoblade Chronicles X get ported to Switch, I'd happily buy that game again.
Would like to finish 101% Wonderful 101 for a second time. Amazing game for its time.
@antonio2244 have you played Yooka Laylee: TIL?? It's the closest thing to DK you will find, apart from the old DK: TF. Really great game, you can feel it comes from their creators in every level.
There are plenty of games from previous Nintendo consoles that with a good makeover would go down well, especially if extra gameplay or levels were added. For example Mario 64, Sunshine or Galaxy etc.
The new Links Awakening look really polished on the Switch, but the game play was very frustrating by today's standards. If Nintendo are remaking older games they also need to update the whole game and not just the graphics.
I'd love for Wii U's Super Mario 3D World and Yoshi's Woolly World to come back out for Switch, but I'd also love to see some great DS titles to arrive too...how about Dementium and Advance Wars? Other than that, I hope other companies continue to remake some of the great classics that are lost. Maybe nintendo can even re-release Super Princess Peach.
No more ARMS or LEGS please.
@SuperGhirahim64 I'm playing that right now! Nintendo announced Wind Waker HD a week after I finished the original on GameCube, maybe the same thing will happen here? ...Probably not.
I feel like people are missing the fact the the mentioned that the focus would be on "new experiences", not just remakes.
With Ring Fit Adventure's current success, I hope this encourages Nintendo to make more games like it i.e a gimmick that are built around a game, not a game that are built around a gimmick.
I would love to see Nintendo work with Rockstar and bring Rockstar games over. GTA games, etc
I just hope they continue doing exactly what Nintendo has...release great games for their great consoles. My 3ds could play almost every Zelda game possible, maybe switch will be able to in another few years too.
I hope this translates to exploring bringing back titles they seem to not care about. F-Zero being a big one.
Wario Land. Super Mario Land 2: 6 golden coins. Those games deserve the remake love. I still to this day go up to my cottage with my old game boy and play these games on the dock. Such incredible games. Come on Nintendo!!! Time for some new side scrollers!!!
@KayFiOS it’s such a fantastic game. But I don’t think it would be smart to release a remake. A re-release maybe but, to have it as remake release would give Nintendo some grief about laziness since it’s already been remade twice. Or once? I’m not sure... correct me lol
@Shade_Koopa Super Mario 3D World would def be worth it. I’m still holding out hope it gets a Switch port.
A healthy combination of new IP:s, games and remasters/remakes is the best way to go. Some remakes of elder classics, combined with remasters, that can quickly be made to fill up gaps in the release windows.
I'm guessing software they were planning on sending to the 3DS will end up on Switch instead. Bring em on!
From GBA: Castlevania aria of sorrow, Metroid fusion + zero mission, Advance wars.
GB/GBC: all Super Mario/Wario Land games, Ganbare Goemon.
I have no requests for 3DS remakes, they're too recent and that console isn't really dead for me anyway.
@Franklin developer has no interest in porting it to switch. All we can do is hope for a new game.
That's fine as long as what they come up with is actually new and constructive. There's been far too many new games that are little more than a set of new levels and remakes that are basically copy/paste jobs for my liking. If you're going to make a new game, improve the actual gameplay. Come up with a neat new ability or mechanic that enhances the gameplay. Add content to remakes that modernizes and enhances the experience instead of just uprezing the graphics and calling it a day. I'm paying $60 for these games, they should be giving me $60 worth of entertainment. If the games are just same old, same old, I'm not really being entertained all that much. Here are some good examples of games that do this:
New games:
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Super Mario Odyssey
Luigi's Mansion 3
Remakes:
Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver
Metroid Zero Mission
Metroid Samus Returns
Super Mario 64 DS
Honestly I think what we will see will be a mix of heavily retouched remakes(think Link's Awakening graphics) and brand new experience.
Remakes (and new additions to old franchises) I suspect will focus on older experiences rather than more recent ones... especially those that had relatively recent remakes.
Thus I feel Twillight Princess and Wind Waker as well as the N64 Zelda games are unlikely since they already had semi recent remakes on consoles of the last gen. If there are more Zelda remakes I suspect they will be off the Oracles line this which has been almost as untouched than Link's Awakening had been until recently.
However there's already BotW2 coming up so it's not like Zelda is underserved currently.
As brand new titles we've just seen Luigi's Mansion and with both other titles of the franchise on 3DS I don't see them being brought Switchward -just- yet.
More likely I feel we might see stuff either in the Metroid or F-Zero families . Perhaps one of the two Mario RPGs families seeing a return too, as there's a lot of potential ground to tread there. Though I feel Mario&Luigi have seen enough care on 3DS in the least gen that I could thus see focus moving back to the Paper Mario line. And though unlikely, the relationship between Nintendo and SquareEnix seem to have warmed enough that I barely would be surprised by a Mario RPG/7th Star remake with renewed graphics and else by now(though it does feel a bit far fetched since that kind of collab feels like one we'd already have hints of by now).
Otherwise a friend was musing that perhaps a return of the Mario Land games(especially 2) could well happen. Especially how loved Mario Land 2 was as a game that sometimes feel up there with Link's Awakening for loved games of the Gameboy era.
Honestly though that announcement really didn't say much while leaving a lot of possibilities open so it's likely too early for me to speculate.
@Bolt_Strike i expect pokemon remakes to happen as the last one date back to Gen6 and before that we had to go back to Gen4 HG/SS. But at the same time the nature of remakes pacing make me feel that the most likely remakes in Gen8 would be more likely to be Gen4's own Pearl and Diamond . All the previous gens are already covered(Gen3 had Red/Green remakes, Gen4 had the Gold/Silver remakes you already mentioned, and finally Gen6 had the Ruby/Saphire remake.
Gen 5 and Gen 7 didn't have remakes of previous gen... and considering opinion of "Ultra" Sun/Moon however, i don't see Gen8 NOT getting a remake of past gens again especially after the reaction to the lack of national dex in Sword/Shield.
They might well follow up with remakes of a previous gen specifically to avoid more bad reactions about the pokedex AND the bad blood "Ultra" Sun/Moon got. But as said I expect such remakes to be set in Sinnoh.
3 games that would be awesome remade super mario world.....super metroid and a link to the past
@Darkyoshi98 seemingly waste of time. They are pretty perfect and why mess with perfection. I'd rather games like Fzero come back.
A new fantasy life would be perfect (still waiting for snack world)
Or remasters of pokemon diamond and pearl
I am alright with remakes, but that Link’s Awakening was a serious cash grab.I grew up playing that game and I beat that one numerous times. Sure, the quality of life mechanics were great. The new dungeons maker not so much. I beat the remake in two days. I wanted more. To me, that is a waste of money. Games I would like to see a remake on are:
Earthbound trilogy
Hercules
Skyward Sword
Kidicarus
The original Metroid
The Adventure of Link
New F-zero and Golden Sun remakes.
@BarefootBowser because they are awesome games and they would sell like hot cakes just some facts
@sixrings my comment above says why
I love remakes honestly. New entries are of course, welcome. I'd be happy either way though.
Remake these Nintendo but don't rush them to market.
Legend of Zelda 1 & 2
Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword (the game we should have got for GBA)
Legend of Zelda: The Oracle of Ages/Seasons
Eternal Darkness
Stunt Race FX
StarTropics 1 & 2
Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters
Also remastered these for Switch please:
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Legend of Zelda: Spirit Track
Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Geist
Paper Mario 1, 2, Super, Sticker Star, Color Splash
Fatal Frame IV & V
Baten Kaitos 1 & Origins
The Last Story
Pandora's Tower
Pikmin Trilogy
F-Zero GX (with AX contents included)
Nintendo kinda remade or HD-ported all of their biggest series at this point. I'm personally more open to new ideas from them.
I’d love a cute Mario side scroller in the same graphics used for the side scroller scenes in links awakening remake. Those goombas omg. A proper yoshi’s island remake in that style would end my life.
My biggest hope after links awakening was oracles of ages and seasons. The GBC trilogy of zelda games are probably my favorite in the entire series. Considering oracles games just reused the links awakening engine from zelda dx, it'd just make sense to use the engine work they already did with awakening remake to remake ages and seasons in far less time as it took for awakening, since they don't have to reinvent the wheel.
@Shade_Koopa You forgot Super Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3, and Xenoblade Chronicles X. Yoshi’s Woolly World, Fatal Frame, and the NES Remix games would be nice too, even if they are far more unlikely.
@kenyowa eh, as long as those two were packages. I mean, por and Rd is a straight duo, it needs to be a whole thing.
L Holy war is great, but they'd need to rebuild that game entirely. Nothing about that game is in line with the rest of the series. I personally love the giant multibase maps, but there needs to be variety. I mean, really getting down to it, three houses was basically what I'd expect a remake of holy war to be.
Oh, and they won't sit too idle. Like, heroes is a thing. I'd rather a full non mobile game too but they're for sure doing a promotion for that.
@MysticalOS I 100% expect they'll do this. I hope they don't decide to try to sell the remakes separately though. I mean, it would be a lot of bad press.
At this point earthbound is a lost cause, but I'd love to see an HD remake of both earthbound and mother 3. Like, after nearly 15 years Nintendo obviously knows there's a market for mother 3. I wonder what the issue is there.
@Franklin I'll be for real, that game is more likely to get a sequel than a remake
@Ludovsky I think a great predictor of what remake we'll get is by what game is excluded the most from the regional dex of S&S.
Well, I say that, but no. That would obviously be gen 5 given what was revealed and leaked about gen 8 and common sense. All of gen 5 were basically reimaginings(hashes) of gen 1 so they'd be the ones to cut. I can't say I think they'd skip remaking d&p for 5, but in all honestly, a black and white remake that includes black and white 2 would be what I really, really want.
@Gwynbleidd Eh, prime isn't like doom as much as Wolfenstein and super metroid had a baby. It's much slower paced than you'd think by looking at it.
Especially the first one. Like, thinking back, that game is actually super unique because there's not actually that much shooting for an fps. It's more of a adventure/platform/puzzle thing than like a run and gun rip and tear thing like doom. Shiz I want that game in remastered or remade with whatever engine and assets prime 4 uses. They can keep prime 2.
I LOVED 3D world. But seriously the whole cat power up bothered me. Why not a bird the can fly? Or like a Yoshi effect with eggs. But a cat...
@charlieonholiday I can't remember if there were any big crazy maps in three houses but in holy war youre basically plopped on a giant map with threeish castles and objectives and have to move your dudes around multiple like envrionmental obstacles like lakes and junk and baddies. It was the one that felt the most like you were the general in a war rather than puzzling out smaller battles. This is what I think is the smallest map in the game :
https://serenesforest.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Chapter_10.png
It kinda sounds better than it was because thats the only kind of battle in holy war and battles were long and a lot of the mechanics weren't as balanced or made as much sense as they became later.
Thracia is the first really modern FE game. It introduced a lot of the structure and maps and stuff that the series used and because the series hasn't really changed that much until fates, it stands up pretty well except that the story is heavily dependent on Holy war. Like, holy war felt like a series of long drawn out wars while thracia is the smaller scale battles that are familiar if you played the other games. Honestly, three houses cribbed a lot from these games, and has a lot in common with thracia, but no FE tried to do the big maps from holy war ever again, if that tells you anything.
I wish they would remaster the Advanced Wars series, the Baten Kaitos series, the Metroid Prime series, Donkey Kong 64 and Eternal Darkness. Sadly I doubt they even consider giving any of these games the love they deserve and will let them fade even more into obscurity.
If I'm not mistaken this month is the 25th anniversary of Donkey Kong Country. Let's hope that they put the first two DKCs for SNES NSO or announce something regarding Donkey Kong.
StarTropics. It doesn't need much, just smoother controls, the ability to carry health, more health pick-ups/drops and a normal weapon upgrade not tied to your health bar.
@Severian Yes to a straight DKC Trilogy port! Physical please.
Just port Windwaker HD and Twilight Princess HD to the Switch first please.
@Severian
I’d love to be able to buy the DKC Trilogy (yet again 😆) on Switch, but I have a feeling they’ll be added to the SNES Nintendo Online service instead. 😑
@MrGawain Please learn the difference between remaster, reboot and remake...
Mario Land 2 would be awesome.
@Kang81
And I'd buy both anyway! If I'm offline, I need a cartridge, after all!
@Tempestryke
YES. StarTropics! I never saw the sequel being re-released as much as the original though. Pity as I liked it.
@SuperGhirahim64
Exactly right. I found the DKCR series cartoony whereas the vibrancy of the first DKC, the darkness of DKC2, and the melancholia of DKC3 amidst the backdrop of the very beautiful Northern Kremisphere were all very, very captivating to me as a middle school kid when they came out.
I actually enjoyed the SNES version of DKC3's OST compared to the GBA remake even if the GBA had some okay tunes, but the happy sounds made it feel out of place.
@wazlon
I still had the DKC trilogy OST for years from Nintendo Power!
If they're doing remakes, though I'm completely satisfied with their current output, I'd like to see Super Smash Bros. 4 Wii U remade for the Switch. I was pretty addicted to that game for a long time, but, any more there just isn't enough people playing Wii U online. Otherwise, I want more Wario Ware, a sequel to Sound Voyager, and a sequel to Light Trax/Dot stream. And Punch Out, and Wii Sports Resort (Ping Pong).
@Nintendo_Thumb wats the point on remaking smash bros 4 since ultimate has basically everything in it from the past entries.
Do both!!! Remake super Mario Bros 1 but using the ring con!
Zelda 2 needs a remake badly.
@Severian
I still have the behind the scenes making of VHS. I don’t recall if I had to send in for it, but the DKC Trilogy are my absolute favorite games of all time.
the legend of zelda the adventure of link remake would be awesome
I want Super Mario sunshine, and other few games from gamecube.Ports are ok,I dont need full remake.
Ocarina of Time remastered, the other stuff I don't mind retro as that's part of it's charm, but old 3D hasn't aged all that well compared to pixel/2D art (generally, at least not old 3D attempting to be realistic, in that case Nintendo stuff still looks decent)
The other retro stuff, just bring it in it's current form via Virtual Console, I'd like to see games like Bomberman 64, Mischief Makers, Pokemon Puzzle League, etc just straight up ported
I’m not tryna be a hater but would someone KINDLY tell me why they want games that have already been ported twice?
Also I would love to see something like epic Mickey 1 or Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the switch. The motion sensors on the right joy con would be perfect for it!
@Andymad ITS THE FURRIES!!!(just kidding) I would love to see a port to switch for that game....
I feel like more handheld games like Links Awakening could be remaked for the Switch.
I would like to see unpopular games a chance to shine on the Switch like some Dragon Quest games, Fossil Fighters, Monster Hunter etc.
@MrGawain That isn't entirely true, they do save money. Yes they build it from the ground up but they use blueprints from the old games which decreases their time spent in development with great margins. So you're forgetting some key details.
Yeah.... Cut back on remakes an make new stuff....
Those expecting remakes of F-Zero, Advance Wars, or Golden Sun are going to be very disappointed.
Link's Awakening is a game that sold ~6 million copies across its 1993 + 1998 DX versions and is a much-beloved entry in the franchise despite its small-scale handheld origins. The 2019 remake was always going to be big hit, and its actual sales ended up being better than even the most optimistic predictions.
Meanwhile, despite the acclaim, F-Zero, Golden Sun, and Advance Wars have simply never sold that much, and remakes of these games won't change anything.
@Shade_Koopa
Don't forget Wind waker HD
The thing is, it seems like a lot of people just want to be able to play these games on a modern system easily.
Not remakes, not ports, just straight up the originals. Link's Awakening was great, but let's face it, I would've been happy if I could have just bought the original on the Switch eShop.
Seems like the best of both worlds - release the legacy content as it was and spend the time/money on sequels and new IP.
seeing the first two Luigi's mansion games on the Nintendo switch would be great.
@Kang81
They sent it to subscribers for free.
@SuperGhirahim64
I think the aesthetics of the 90s reflected the alternative nature of gaming much like alternative music. Now indie is so common that it's hard to reflect what "alternative" is and the escapism of Rare's DKC trilogy was that the music and art drew you in from the photos in magazines and the manual as much as playing the game does.
Since all the immersion is done in-game, well, my theory is that we get something akin to ADHD flash cartoons with no plot from Cartoon Network rather than something deeply inviting and engrossing, like Batman: The Animated Series or The Big O (funny enough also on Cartoon Network and animated by the studio that did Batman).
The music, the art, the style, and the tone of DKC trilogy felt like another world you wanted to jump into, just as much as StarFox was or Zelda, but the super cartoony style makes me feel like we're just controlling a cartoon but not pulled into it, the way Stickerbrush Symphony or Aquatic Ambiance and the rendered backgrounds make you feel like you could just jump in, more immersive and wanting you to be in it (look at Northern Kremisphere or Crocodile Isle renders in Nintendo Power) rather than cartoony that makes you know it's its own world you get to laugh at from a distance.
...I hope I'm making sense.
I just want a Majoras Mask 2 kinda game.
Loved those powerfull magicalmasks and dark story
@retro_player_22 Your list is great, but I don’t think Sticker Star or Color Splash sold/reviewed well enough to get Switch ports.
Now is the time to announce an Ocarina of Time remake using the BotW engine for a summer release. I'd be hard pressed to believe BotW2 will launch next holiday, more closer to Spring 2021, and we need a big hitter like this to help fill in gaps. A Metroid Prime Trilogy remaster is necessary too, especially as Prime 4 nears. Pikmin trilogy remaster is a guarantee. While I agree bringing something new will make the game feel fresh, these are games the public wants to have available with a fresh coat of paint and possibly some QoL updates. They could easily put these out as placeholders between bigger titles.
@westman98 yep it’s odd, I read that the same as you but we’ve ended up with massive shopping lists in the comments. Hmmm.
Me personally? The more new things they try the better. The occasional remake would be welcome though.
A remake of Wave Race, with the tracks of 64 and Blue Storm combined and new ones released through DLC... yes please!
Also, ports of Zelda WW and TP HD and Super Mario 3D World.
Considering the success of Splatoon and Breath of the Wild it’s not a surprising stance to take.
@Shade_Koopa I’d love pikmin 3 to be on the switch whilst we wait for the 4th one
Here is what I want to know: What is the difference between remake, remaster and brand new game. Specifically, how much time and money and devs does it take to do each one?
I realize that it depends on the game size, but does a remake require half a team and half the time as an original game?
And, do remakes, remasters generally sell well? Is it worth it for Nintendo to invest in these projects?
I am just curious . . .
A DKC1-3 series of remakes would be awesome, or simply a proper Diddy’s Kong Quest with TF engine.
So the headline basically says "Nintendo wants to make new games for current console. But may also remake old games. Or might not. But probably will."
Batman Arkham series Or Batman Blackgate from the 3DS remaster would be sweet.
Good. Leave the past in the past. If you want an old game, port it, don't "remake" it. It is lazy and unimaginative. New is better, always!
And why not:
@Brutapode89 we don’t need a splatoon remastered because the reason splatoon 2 was made was because it was kinda like a port from Wii U to switch already but yeah I agree with you on the SMG 1 And 2
I think we should get an epic Mickey port
@RiasGremory Those are pretty different games, I have Smash Ultimate, it's nothing like Smash 4 Wii U. Smash 4 Wii U had Online VS where you could choose to play 2 vs 2 at will, and between matches you could change your character so you never had to quit just to start over. They had the choice of For Fun, or For Glory, and so because there was no option to change specific items on and off, everybody was always on the same rule set so it always matched you with the rules you chose. I played that game every day for a long time, and was excited for Smash Ultimate, but when it came out they ask you how you want to play, and then it nearly always ignores it. I want to play 2 vs 2 online, and I can't so that to me is game breaking and I don't really have a reason to play Smash Ultimate, no matter that the characters and physics are very similar. If Smash 4 Wii U was on Switch, I'd play that all of the time. I'd prefer they just fixed Smash Ultimate, but, it doesn't look very likely.
Feel free to use this engine to do the Oracle games while it's still fresh. On another topic, I could use a F-Zero GX remake...
Remake the best Megaman Battle Network game so I can netbattle through the Net with Mayl! I bet I'd lose but you never know!
@Tandy255 That's never stopped Nintendo before.
@rushiosan No. The original trilogy is pretty darn close to perfect.
@Tempestryke
Yes. Almost perfect.
@SuperGhirahim64
Yes, yes exactly. Agree on all points. I’ll remember you and celebrate here with you if or when it is announced.
@the_beaver I didn’t like Yooka and Impossible lair at all. It wasn’t fun in any way, like Donkey Kong is. I don’t like Yooka’s world, characters, or anything about these games.
I'd like a remake or remaster of F-Zero X with the 64DD track editor and F-Zero AX/GX. I also want a port of Super Mario 3D World since I never owned a Wii U and don't want to buy one for just one game.
