Final Fantasy Explorers isn't far away from its Western release on 3DS, bringing its brand of co-op and combat to the portable. Square Enix has previously celebrated its key IP with some music rhythm experiences on 3DS, though this is perhaps closer to the kind of gameplay that series fans expect.
Part of the title's appeal is in its nostalgia, with characters and enemies from across the series making their appearances. That's the selling point from a recent trailer, which showcases battles and some famous faces that'll appear.
Check it out below and let us know whether this one's on your radar for the end of January.

I'm excited for this game. Looks like it could be a lot of fun to play with my wife.
i don't often pre buy things, but this was one i had to get on the e shop when i seen it last week, very excited to play this game.
Woot! Looks great!
I'm waiting for reviews on this one, since it feels like a deviation on Monster Hunter that I could probably get into. So, @ThomasBW84, when should we be expecting the review for it to come up on NL? I haven't seen anything about the embargo date anywhere.... unless this is a Fallout 4 situation where there's an embargo ON THE EMBARGO DATE.... in which case feel free to say nothing if need be. Don't want anyone getting in trouble, but do want to know if I should get on the Amazon pre-order boat so I can get it delivered to my house on launch day with the 20% discount.
Square-Enix needs to realize, that pointing out whether the playable status of the much-hyped "famous faces" will have a summon-esque time limit, or will give players the ability to play as Cloud and company at will instead, is crucial for fans who need to understand whether the game is a "nice FF spinoff" or "the true, must-buy 3DS sequel to Dissidia".
I have this reserved, but it is still a maybe for me. It looks like it can be alot of fun. Reading on it, its to quick to be compared to Monster Hunter, yet not being like Monster Hunter.
I'm waiting for reviews before picking up a copy. Looks good as a boss-hunter but still iffy on how much mileage I'll get out of it.
Will there be any single player campaign in this or is it strictly Multiplayer only?
@readyletsgo This is another lingering question I have; if it's simply better with other people, or needs them for certain challenges and such, that's fine with me, but if it's a hard requirement to finish the game, it simply may not be for me. If nothing else, I'm definitely buying this in physical copy so I can sell it on eBay if I hit a wall and my WiFi (which tends to be spotty where I typically play my 3DS) doesn't want to play nice with me.
I remember being interested in this one way back in 2014 but in 2015 it was all about World of Final Fantasy.

Seems like Wii U and 3DS get the least of the games these days. Wii U missed out on Dragonball Xenoverse and 3DS gets Project Fusion.
If NX can get FFXV or the FF7 Remake that would be nice, but I doubt it.
Oh well, at least its still 3rd party support and some decent games, just not the best games I don't think.
@MarioPhD If you are concerned about your Prime 20% discount you do have 2 weeks to order after the game releases to still get it, and w/ Prime 2 day delivery at least you won't have to wait too long.

I'll be happy when they update the Pokken date, still says Dec 31. .
@rjejr I actually have a big meeting I have to get through on Monday as part of my PhD program, so if this game is good it'll be my reward. I'd love to have it at home waiting for me on Tuesday when it releases if it suits me nicely and at the right price, otherwise, as a little reward for myself, I might very well forego the 20% off and just grab it from wherever. I suppose the alternative choice is to just do the preorder anyway, and worst case scenario is I can send it back if I change my mind and don't open it at all, which may be the approach I take.
@MarioPhD Good luck on the meeting, I'm ABD for life. (22 years and counting)
@rjejr I'll be joining your ranks as of about 3:30PM EST on Monday. Here's hoping for only 18 months tops until the dissertation comes and goes and I'm gainfully employed.....
@MarioPhD No pressure or anything.
Dr Mario seems to be cheering you on, so that's good reinforcement.
It didn't do well or review well in Japan, which really cooled my interest in the title. I fear it will be kind of a dull mindless Monster Hunter instead of a skill-based addictive loot chase. I've still got TriForce Heroes to play through, and I think this one will be like that one, good, but not great (sadly). Hopefully it will be easier to play with friends online in this at least.
I'll wait for reviews and look for a MetaCritic of 80+ before I start thinking about buying.
already got my copy preordered. Can't wait to play this game. Love Final Fantasy
@rjejr My username is the epitome of wishful thinking.
@readyletsgo This video suggests that it's at least possible to complete the game in single-player: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkglpkJu3BI
Whether or not there's a worthwhile story in there, however, or if it really railroads you into having to play online, I cannot say. It might be "single player" in the sense of what I've heard of Triforce Heroes, where you literally CAN play alone, but it might be a pretty hollow experience.
Hmm.... I'm not too sure about this. Kinda seems like a Monster Hunter ripoff, but I'm not that well informed.
@MarioPhD good luck to you!
This looks really good! Is it sad to say I've only played Final Fantasy Tactics. It's a series I should of gotten into years ago, I'm just not sure where to start. FF IV maybe?
I think the only thing that could prevent it from being a hit is if it lacks the challenge that Monster Hunter provides. I've tried other hunting games like Toukiden and Freedom Wars and they just are more hack and slash and I can get through the hardest missions without being hit. If this can blend more of the MonHun difficulty in it, I know i'd be happy
The Japanese reviews have been disappointing, so I'm going to wait a bit before I decide if it is worth a purchase.
@King_Johobo FFIV has a story who was engaging at its time but could seem archetypal now. (I still enjoyed it after FF VII and VIII thanks to its medieval setting and characters)
The sprites have not aged well so I advise you to prefer the DS release. You shall be warned that it is a classic japanese RPG with time gauges in battle.
The V has a good "jobs" system but I found the story boring despite some funny characters. It is also easier.
The VI, well, is not praised for nothing. The 16bits graphics are still very nice and this is where the sci-fi elements started to massively grow (but it still keeps a medieval-ish side)
I was tempted to pick up the special edition of this but I'd like to find out a little more about it first. It does look fun but I'd hope there's quite a bit of depth to the gameplay.
