Im guessing you have the secret pipes in world 2 and 6. The secret exit in world 6 ghost house? Not-so-Secret mushroom house in the ice world? Finish the world 7 castle from jumpin in the roof? World 5 has lots of different pathways. Just some sugggestions that you hhave probably done already.
Done the roof thing. And there is no ghost house in World 6. If you mean World 7, yes, I have the lower path that skips the Lakitu section and the level by the moving pipes.
Which mushroom house in the ice world? I see four spots where it looks like mushroom houses once were, two on the first screen, two on the second screen (where the castle and switch are). I would assume I've gotten it, as that's already a lot of mushrooms, and I don't recall there being any mushroom houses that were not visible until you opened a path to them, so I ought to see it if I didn't get to it yet, no?
This is so frustrating. I don't care much about the hint movies or the star, but I hate not knowing things. I'm not used to it.
Just to confirm for anyone wondering, I have all 5 stars and I've had the Super Guide box pop up for sure twice, maybe a third time. So as long as you don't use it, you can get all 5.
Adam, hopefully someday you can find out what you're missing. >_<

You do get a confirmation when you have found all the exits. There is a way to know which levels have secret exits. Just look at the hint movie titles (you don't have to watch them), and make a note of which ones are titled, "secret goal". There are 12 in all. You do not need to rescue toads.
I am glad you don't have to rescue all the toads, it got crazy hard by world 2 and I wouldn't like to imagine the difficulty involved with this in the later levels. i'm also glad to hear you can still get 5 stars even if the super guide box has popped up, I felt slightly disheartened when I had been led to believe this was the case.
I seem to remember seeing something about the stars shimmering if you met certain criteria, does anybody know if there is any truth in that?
Me n my Bro' have been playing when we can, we've got a great lil team going, 2 player is easily the best. We got to World 8 last night, one question if you don't mind (so i don't have to read the thread and spoil myself)... is World 9 accessible after the end, or do you need to get all the coin star thingies?
It is accessible after beating Bowser, but each of the eight levels requires you to collect all the star coins in the corresponding world, for example to unlock the first level in world 9 you must collect all the star coins in world 1, to unlock the 5th level in world 9 you must collect all the star coins in world 5.
Prepare for a awesome Bowser Battle Machu, I thought it was the best boss battle from any Mario game yet and the highlight of the game.
It was a very cool idea, certainly, but not particularly challenging, which made the effect have less impact. I'll leave it at that for Machu's sake.
I still think SMB1 and SMB2(J) had the best bosses because I really dread getting to them and having to time my run perfectly, as I never make it that far with fire flower, sadly.
I found it to be quite challenging and it took me a few attempts, something I noticed regarding the fire flower is that it doesn't have any effect on the bosses, is this the first Mario game where this is the case?
The first time I played through the Bowser battle was in co-op late at night, and it was enormously entertaining that way (and more difficult through that last stretch, due to our constant knocking into each other). I'm glad I saved that (and most of the game's levels) for co-op rather than blazing through it all solo, as it's more fun to be surprised at the same time as your comrade rather than anticipating everything.
Twitter is a good place to throw your nonsense. Wii FC: 8378 9716 1696 8633 || "How can mushrooms give you extra life? Get the green ones." -
I am pretty sure fire flower does have an effect on bosses. Its effect is mostly pointless though. It takes too many hits to hurt a boss for it to be worth the effort. And with infinite lives, might as well just jump on them and take a hit if necessary. Chances are if you make it to the boss with a fire flower, you aren't going to get hit three times.
And yea, Bowser does seem like he'd be a lot more fun in co-op. Hopefully I get to check that out some time soon.
It took me like 12 tries to beat the final Bowser, I must suck It's even harder with two or more people because there's only so many platforms for people to land on (and most of them are small and will get blown up by Bowser's fire if you stand on them for too long)

I believe 5 fireballs = 1 stomp against the koopa kids. It's particularly useful against Kamek and in multiplayer (with multiple players shooting fireballs at the same time).
For the most part though, as Adam said, it's just more useful to stomp on the koopa kids.
@Adam I've found by watching Youtube and playing the game that not making the Super guide appear gets the stars on your profile to sparkle. It doesn't contribute to getting the stars, it just makes them sparkle. Note that if you get the Super guide to appear after you get the sparkle you can lose it.
All the sparkle is really for is for completionists to get to say that they've 100% the game. However, now we know that you can still atleast get all five stars despite the Super guides appearence.
