The secret level in world 7? The secret level in world 8? (I guess if you have all the star coins then you must have accessed those)
Oh that reminds me - the secret level in world 8 is awesome! Anyone else feel the same way?
The secret levels in World 7 and 8 are my two candidates for best Mario level ever. And yes, of course I have them unlocked if I have all the star coins.
He was saying both of those secret levels are candidates for best Mario level ever. I played all the way through the game before going back and finding those, and they were by far the best levels in the game.

It has been confirmed that the fifth star on your save file isn't for not having super guide appear. I don't know which 4 you have, but the actually conditions for unlocking them have been confirmed. Check IGN or another trustworthy site, although I'm sure about IGN.

He might not. As I stated, the fifth star isn't for not having the super guide appear. I mean if you think about it, it would be really stupid to do something like that anyway. That would mean if the super guide ever appeared you would have to start the game over again if you wanted to get all five stars.
Miyamoto That's why I wanted something to appear for players who didn't allow the hint block to pop up. Iwata Something for players who've done really well? Miyamoto Right. For those players, there are medals awarded for not bringing up a hint block that are displayed on the title screen. Iwata I see. Miyamoto With that feature, it now means that if you bring up a hint block even once, you'll want to wipe all your save data and start again from scratch. Iwata So basically, if you slip up eight times, you start again from zero! (laughs) Miyamoto Right. You go back to an earlier save game and try again! (laughs) A lot of the staff does that, and it's actually an exciting way to play. If you've been coasting on autopilot up until then, this will make you refocus and give it your all.
Yea, I thought that was stupid, too. Must have been a translation error when Miyamoto was talking. It seemed a tad ambiguous at the time, but everyone went along with it.
Hmm, maybe I didn't use all the mushroom houses. I usually skipped them. I know a few are still on the map, but I figured they came back somehow. I think I've got a lead now, yay! Thanks, Nintendo Gamer. I'll check back in a bit.
EDIT: So much for hopefulness... Guess I'll check out the mushroom houses anyway, just to err on the side of caution.
IGN could well be wrong. Would be far from the first time. I just checked, and I seem to have done everything they've said. All the canons and mushroom houses have been used, and the two hidden pipe paths have been unlocked. What else could I be missing for secret goals?
Stick with me here. How could I have all the star coins and not have completed every level?
To reiterate: I have completed every level with all star coins found, including World 9. I've used all mushroom houses, used all warp canons, and found two warp pipes that skip levels within a world. I've had Super Guide pop up twice, but I didn't so much as touch it.
Seem to me that it is probably the Super Guide thing. That transcript Metal Mario posted is too specific to be a mistranslation, and I may be weird, but I trust Miyamoto over IGN in regards to his own game's secrets.
This is disappointing, but oh well. I'm not about to waste my time getting all those star coins again. Some of the hint movies are really cool, but nothing worth the effort.
