There are still a few quality wii games apart from Skyward sword that aren't translations of already existing games like Kirby wii and Mario party 9. Technically, Earth seeker counts too as thats not out in Japan yet even if it is only a week 'till that comes out in Japan.

anytime nintendo announces their 'new' console, handheld the 'old' ones are dead. it has happened every time. it's just the way it is. there may be 1 or 2 decent titles that were already in development, but they more often move them over to the new hardware.

yeah but again, you can't "kill" a console one year (if not more) before you release the other one.

Kirby is exciting and everything, but it's a 6 years old project so it's not that they are giving us something really new. Mario Party 9 will be nice but eh, it's "just" Mario Party. Earth Seeker looks promising, but have they announced a Western release yet? Same with Pandora's Tower, we still don't know when we'll see it (and IF we'll see it in the West).

There's a bunch of good games that will pop up, this is true. But it's that kind of "pacing" that you would expect from a console that is going to be replaced in 3 or 4 months. Here we're talking about a console that won't be replaced before Summer - Fall 2012. So if you think that that handful of good titles (80% of which is not even "new", properly speaking) will be enough for the following 15 months...well it's not.

Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...

this happened once, GCN. And even that had the excuse of at least 2 games being moved to Wii exclusive.

I mean, games were still coming out for NES in 1990, SNES in 1995/6, GBA in 2004, N64 in 2000/1, GB in 2000/1, DS right now (which has like 3-4 games relesed just this year that are better than anything on 3DS so far). And NES and SNES and GBA all had worthwhile games released even after it was done (Kirby's Adventure was released like 2-3 years after SNES came out, and still sold).

Yeah that's my point. A console should become "DEAD" a couple of months after its successor gets released, not ONE YEAR+ BEFORE!! Especially a console that has sold nearly 90 million units.

I find it very stupid from Nintendo to invest all their effort on the new console forgetting that they have a fanbase who still owns a Wii and really doesn't care of what will happen in Fall 2012, they want good games now.

The only thing I can think of is that even first party games don't sell anymore on Wii and they just want to let it sunk tied to Just Dance & Zumba Fitness and start from scratches with WiiU. That would justify the fact that all we'll be getting is: 2 games that already were on the japanese market (Xenoblade and The Last Story), one game promised ages ago (Zelda), one game started 6 or 7 years ago (Kirby), a handful of party/board games, Rhythm Heaven and Pilotwings (that sure will be good but not "good in that sense") and that's it. Didn't count Earth Seeker and Pandora's Tower because we're not even sure these games will sell well in Japan, go figure if they'll ever be released in the West.

It's pretty depressing.

The Wii is too successful to die next year. I wouldn't doubt it if the thing doesn't kick the bucket until 2014. It's the best-selling home console of all time, behind the PS1 and PS2. so I don't think it's dead yet. However with the current condition, I would call the Wii a senior citizen. I mean, the thing is only $150 right now. Only about a year ago it was $200. It's not over for the Wii yet. Skyward Sword is on the way, Kirby, Mario Party 9 and a few other big titles. I'll welcome its death though. I'm ready for the next gen.

Not now, and it probably won't die if Nintendo doesn't release a Virtual Console for the Gamecube.

Well this is probably the first Monday where North America didn't get any released on Wiiware or Virtual Console, hopefully that's not a start of the Wii being dead.

Really? I thought the Wii had a good release of games at the end of 2010 with Goldeneye, Kirby, Sonic Colors and Donkey Kong Returns.

It’s JumpMad, you should never take him too seriously.

@Retro_gamer American wii vc and wiiware releases have been moved to Thusdays
@Spizzamarozzi I think its pretty likely that Pandora's tower will get a western release as the other two recent nintendo published jrpgs are and its been selling well in Japan too. It was right at the top of the multi-platform charts in its first week of release and was still in the top 10 a few weeks after. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how likely it is for Earth seeker as its being developed and published by lesser known companies.

I don't think the Wii will ever "die" really, it brought in a new way to play games and is an amazing console to use. Sure the publishers will move on to the Wii U and we won't see anymore games for the Wii, maybe a few trickling in even after the Wii U's release. Since Wii U is carrying on the Wii's legacy, the original Wii will never completely die off.

this is very romantic and everything, but "to die" means that "it won't get any new game", so in this sense yeah, it's going to die. Course its spirit will live on in the WiiU and in the hearts of the good folks etc but if it doesn't get any game after Zelda, it means it is dead.

@mariofanatic128 I really hope Pandora's Tower will make its way in the Western market. People are skeptical but I liked what I saw.

Famitsu have reviewed Earth seeker and it didn't score as highly as I expected it got 8/7/6/6 or 27/40. I tried to find what they said about it and why they gave it that score but I couldn't find any more information.

@mariofanatic128 cheers for the info. Just to re-cap, so far from Famitsu we have:

The Last Story: 10/10/9/9 (38/40)
Xenoblade: 9/9/9/9 (36/40)
Pandora's Tower: 7/7/9/8 (31/40)
Earth Seeker: 8/7/6/6 (27/40)

Ouch at Earth Seeker's score!
What are the chances it was due to terrible voice acting or some other feature which is irrelevant to a localization?
I'm a member on XSEED's forums and even they thought a localization for this was highly likely...

I don't understand enough about JRPGs to be able to make up an idea from the trailer, but maybe it's because it looks a bit generic and not that original (especially when you compare it with its bigger peers)? I genuinely don't know though, just guessing...but I really hope it's a question of originality and genericity (which could change according to our standards - I clearly remember Famitsu being not that impressed with Skies of Arcadia while in the West it was considered THE BOMB) and not due to some obvious flaws in the game.

Famitsu has very skewed review scores these days, where once they were very respectable. If you've read about Famitsu's involvement with Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker then you know what I'm talking about. It seems like recently they've been giving big titles high scores to help boost game sales in Japan.

Besides, the content of their reviews is always extremely lacking. It's usually just a single paragraph - not quite the in-depth critical analyses I'd like to read before deciding on purchases.

Well it looks like The Last Story, Xenoblade and Pandora's Tower are winners by their standards, at least.
