I got the Wii because of the VC and some of the fun games that I played on a friend's Wii.

Current games: Everything on Switch

You won't believe this, but I was only attracted to the Wii initally because of the motion controls. However, as I started to get more of the games I wanted and got my Wii online last year, I've been a full-fledge Nintendo fan.

I've been playing there products since 1999 and Nintendo has never disappointed.

Why did I buy a Wii? Because it is made by Nintendo, so I had no choice.

I look forward to queuing up at midnight, ready for the next one.

Well I really didn't buy my Wii, we got ours for Christmas as the family console, however I'm the only one really playing it
After months of incredibly awesome games for the system, it started to grow on me and it's now one of my favorite consoles that I have.

I just wanted something different. Yes I think every console is good ! Microsoft and Sony just made me feel like I would be playing the same games over again just with nothing but updated versions. To where Nintendo was offering me a chance to play some of greatest classics in the history of gaming via the VC service. They was offering a system that allowed a new control scheme that works great in a lot of games. They made the Gamecube slots for controllers, memory cards and backward compatability (granted I still use my GC). I can use my great Wavebird for quite a few Wii games which is awesome in the purest since. Game wise 1. Zelda Twilight Princess 2. Mario Kart Wii 3. Smash Brothers Brawl 4. No More Heroes 5. Mario Galaxy were all my first games and I got to say were some of the best. The Wii just had what I was wanting. I wanted more than just graphical and hardware upgrades. I wanted a different way to play games and they offered me that.

Ok, in order:

  • Wii Remote and the motion-sensing goodness (E3 2006 belonged to Nintendo!)
  • The Virtual Console didn't matter until after my mom made my cousin use my N64 (and by use, i mean take) now I love it!
  • WiiWare back in that announcement seemed promising to me a bit.
  • Online capabilities - (finally!)
  • I skipped the sixth generation (although it won't technically be over unless PS2 dies..... WHY WON'T IT DIE!)
  • I'm a Nintendo fan, ever since my childhood days on SNES as a young'n and the N64 during my preteens (because N64 kept me throughout the 6th generation before Wii came around!)

  • Super Mario Galaxy
  • Twilight Princess
  • OMG! Wii Sports!

in a nutshell, after spending a good couple of days laughting at the name Wii I watched the conference on youtube which included this video which was amazing.... minus the Metroid Prime actor dude which I just laughed at "surely ducking behind couches isn't programmed into this". I think the thing that impressed me the most was the look of golf and tennis that wasn't button controlled which was (or at least it seemed) thrown into games like Super Mario Galaxy but also the aiming in Zelda and Red Steel. So I got it on launch and it, after waiting a year with nothing much but Zelda, it delivered and some.

By comparison the PS3 conference was a total joke and the 360 conference spent most of the time ranting about Halo 3 and HD-DVD. The Microsoft conference wasn't bad but it didn't get me interested in any games that I wouldn't have been interested in otherwise...... excluding maybe the GTA4 reveal.

I got it for the VC, and because Brawl was upcoming, the GC compatibility was worth a lot too (much more than Wii games are)

A combination of the possibilities of WiiWare (which thus far it hasn't really lived up to yet but the future is starting to look promising), the fact that I'd get a GameCube as a bonus cause during the previous generation I was a PS2 loyalist (as my collection clearly shows) and well, to an extent I just wanted to try the motion controls but no one I knew had a Wii... So I figured I might aswell get one myself. VC was nice too but ever since it was revealed that no effort would be put into upgrading the games to make them all that they could be, like adding online multiplayer and such to F-Zero and so forth, that did dampen my excitement over that... Adding achievement points (Microsoft's only worthwhile addition to the console market ever) to both retail and downloadable games wouldn't have hurt either...

So yeah, mostly WiiWare and Gamecube compatibility...

I bought a Wii because of:

-motion controls with Zelda TP
-Mario
-Brawl
-Online games
-Virtual Console
-Third party exclusives

I've played the little white machine almost everyday from August 10, 2007 to present day.

am I the only person who didn't expect this sort of stuff?
when I heard about VC and how it would let you play old games you never had a chance to play I was interested. When it came out and it worked as advertised I was satisfied. I was never upset that Mario Kart 64 didn't have an online leaderboard or Mario 64 didn't have upgraded textures. Nintendo said it would be like playing them on the original systems and it was like playing them on the original systems. No complaints!

Its like when people say that Wii Motion Plus should have "been there from the start" and that adding it later is "admitting that the original tech had flaws". I guess the same must be true with the PS3 Slim

Back then I had a strong PC and could play every hot, also on console, title like Oblivion, C&C3 or Bioshock on it. The Wii did not seem interesting to me, neither as the 360/PS3, right from the beginning. But it´s line up grew and grew and around spring 2007 I finally bought one:

Primary reasons:

  • Super Mario Galaxy
  • Metroid Prime 3
  • Wii Fit (year, I srsly needed some workouts back then...)
  • Brawl was coming...

Secondary reasons:

  • VC
  • Wii Sports
  • cheapest console back then
  • does not need a HD-TV for full experience
  • unique games like Ghost Squad or Excite Truck

I'm not gonna lie, the VC was the main reason I bought the Wii. If the PS3 would have been cheaper back then I might have considered it more, but back in 2007 it was out of my price range.

I can totaly understand why some people admire the VC that much. I got 15 VC games compared to only 3 WiiWare games for example.
