I have a feeling the motion controls are iffy. Am I right?
Edit: Hmm, looks like accc answered me already. Pity, I was really looking forward to this.
Whoa!! You got the ACCC involved over iffy conrols!? Awkward silence from 98% of the forum users (Then mad typing as someone does research on who the ACCC are.)
I'd hazard a guess that most members here don't live "down under," or haven't been fortunate enough to visit there. Hence the 98%.
EDIT: @eripmav, Hardy83, et al., it's not just about the storage space on the SD card. Remember that the game must be loaded entirely into the Wii's system memory prior to launch. So doubling or more of the allowance for WiiWare size would require some people to revisit "cleaning out the fridge," and that was a long, ugly aspect of the Wii's opening act. I've got only channels and My Aquarium (yeah, yeah... save it) on my system memory/Wi Menu, and all games are on the SD and I've got <600 blocks of system memory left. That couldn't handle a double-size WiiWare title. I'm confident my memory usage is not unique.
@eripmav, true story: Been to Switzerland a bunch of times, but it's been about 7 years. When I was there, I used to see this comic strip called Obelix and Asterix. I haven't thought about it once all the years since then. I downloaded and played your game last night. Today, driving from New York to Massachusetts, I thought of Obelix and Asterix and I HAD NO IDEA WHY! Now I come here and see this?! It's amazing how visual some memories are. I'd say you succeeded in conjuring Uderzo!
I still haven't picked this game up yet. Even after reading Chicken's review I'm not sure if it would be worth it. I love the art style and the game looks really fun but my concerns are the long loading times and the choppy framerates. The motion-controlled attacks are also something I am worried about. Does anyone else have anything to say about this game?
The waggle attack actually wasn't much of an issue for me after I got used to it. At the beginning of the game I had a hard time doing it consistently for whatever reason and died a bunch of times, but starting with the third level I only got hit a few times as a result of the game failing to recognize my motion input. I can't really pinpoint what exactly I was doing that caused it to not work properly at first or what I changed that made it work more consistently later on, but if you stick with the game I'm sure you'll find it works pretty well overall. (Would've been nice if they at least gave us the option to use button presses though.)
The framerate and load times were pretty annoying throughout the whole game but they weren't so bad that they killed the experience or anything. The game was filled with some pretty impressive and unique platforming sequences so if you're a fan of 2D platformers you shouldn't let these issues stop you from checking it out!
I wish I knew sales figures, it's driving me insane waiting to hear how we're doing. Still, if you guys enjoy the game do a wee dev a favour and recommend it on to your friends:) I've been trying to do this on Facebook but my friends are basically non gaming heathens...I don't know how I can have anything in common with em..
After a week of debating whether or not to get this game I finally decided to download it today. I have to say that I am very pleased with the game! I was a little concerned because of some of the negative comments regarding problems with the loading times and framerate issues. I am glad to say that I am not experiencing any problems with this game! I barely noticed the framerate issues and the load times can be irksome but I have just learned to ignore it and it does not hinder my enjoyment of the game one bit. As for the motion-based hit detection issues they are present but they don't occur frequently enough to cause any problems. Despite it's flaws, this is still an extremely charming and fun game and one of the better titles available on the WiiWare service. If you enjoy 2D platformers I would definitely recommend this game! I applaud you Legendo and look forward to your next WiiWare release!
WolfRamHear, thank you for your feedback! Very kind of you indeed. It warms me cockles when I read people enjoying our games and I'm glad you're having a blast:) Feel free to recommend it to as many people as you can!
I know it's an incredibly cheeky ask, but for those of you who decided to give the game a bash and purchased it, would you mind heading over to Metacritic and entering the score you think it deserves please?
No problem eripmav, I've just completed it and in all honesty it was a true pleasure which is a rareity when it comes to Wiiware. My only one complaint is the final battle is a little simple - not that I lost the odd life to it but it could have done with perking up - maybe add an archer somewhere on the final bridge?
The graphics are amazing - particularly the start of the last stage where you walk up to the castle doors, as for the controls I was a little frustrated as first (even jumping seemed a bit unresponsive in places) but learned their naunces and never had any problems after the first half of the game. The same goes for the loading screens which you get used to after the first couple of levels.
Keep up the good work! By the way, I personally think the monastry is without doubt one of the best levels and has some quite challening platforming sections.
First you get the sugar, then you get the power, then you get the women.
Thank you Calculon. Our next project's quite different to this so it'll be interesting to see how it's perceived. Alot of people disregard 3M down to the way it looks from static shots, bloody annoying.
