At the end of the day, years from now, what will most people fondly remember? There's something about Nintendo's games that impacts you in some way. From the fun of Mario to the adventure in Zelda and to the cuteness of Kirby, Nintendo games have a quality in them that makes them something special. All you need to do is look at the sales charts to see why it is. All those people that bought Nintendo games didn't just get them because they're Nintendo. They bought them because they know that they are getting good quality games for their money. And while "casual" games like Wii Sports Resort are bashed by those arrogant fanboys, they are helping Nintendo stay on top. There's something weird about seeing your mom or dad or even grandparents playing Wii Sports that delights you in a way. Nintendo isn't just catering to the young audience, they're catering to everybody.
Reggie would be proud.
As for my opinion, I'm gonna say a big, fat no. The Wii has basically outsold every other console this generation combined, and I doubt that a company with that much money would just give up.

This is a weird one.On the one hand the sales figures say that the Wii,until recently, has outsold the PS3 and 360 since day one yet I personally know very few people who have one and the ones that do barely play it or are aware of the amount of decent games for it ,despite being keen gamers on other platforms.Very few gamers I know have ever played a Zelda/Metroid game but enjoy similar games on other consoles.I doubt that Nintendo will ever completely disappear from the games industry but who knows maybe they will become develepors only when the dawn of cloud computing that is happening now becomes a viable mainstream way to accses our media. I personally enjoy any game regardless of which platform its on,people who do are missing some great games.Long live Nintendo
@Link-Hero (coupla pages back) I agree. I am one of the small proportion of kids who aren't ignorant brats who try to act like adults. They deserve a good spanking.
No animals were harmed in the making of this post.

This is why I hate most kids. Most of them are spoiled brats, ignorant, try to act cool, think they are more superior than anyone else, and are closed-minded. I know not all of them are like this, but the good ones that are around are in a very small amount.
True.
I made a video response to some 12 year old (who fits the criteria in the quote above) who thought the 3DS was a ripoff of the PSP just because they had an analog slider and also because Nintendo "stole" the Metal Gear franchise from the PSP, and he referred to himself as a "core gamer" as he's pimping the generic out-there games (Modern Warfare, Halo, GTA) as what he plays everyday.
Some guy apparently hacked his channel (presumed, but not believed) and every person (including me) who responded to the 3DS bash video were happy. What we thought was that he got rid of the video in light of the errors (there were A LOT) he made. It was the only video he removed, before the channel itself tanked. I still don't get why he thinks of himself as a core gamer and calling Nintendo kiddy when he's a kid already.
That's why I like the fact that there are a few gamers here at N-Life who know their places and sees how the industry and community works out.
Also, Nintendo is selling more than ever. The DS is about to have the biggest sales of any console in history. The Wii has outsold both other consoles almost combined. People are buying these every day, around the world.
I heard some kids on the bus talking smack to a retro game last year. "Hey guys, i played this computer game called Mappy and it had real crap graphics" Congrats, you've seen a game made before xbox.
I do remember playing several First Person Shooting Games such as Gears of War 2 and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 as my most played retail games, and the game play is formulated from the basics, but the styles are rather a bit distinct.
Gears of War 2 Horde encourages shooters to find a tactical area to hide from enemy shootings and attack patterns and shooters will counter them under strategic methods whether it's close contact with chainsaws for wretches or frequent firing of the machine gun towards the shield holder's toes.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer on the other hand, requires players to be fast and ready to shoot players out as there will plenty of them wanting to kill anything they can, and the more kills they earn without dying, the greater the reward possibilities from player help crate to calling air squadron to attack the battlefield.
Anyways, Nintendo's experienced skill with combination of hardware and software development along with targeting the crowd with a few game mechanics that are easy to pick up and play along with challenges that heavily forces the player to use the mechanics under meaningful situations is quite the best game play experience you'll ever get from them. Sony is slowly getting close to Nintendo's techniques, and Mircrosoft is still using mostly traditional mechanics for their games, including the upcoming games for Kinect.
i'm only 12 and i am a huge fan of nintendo. i have friends who are a huge fan of nintendo and know a crapton more than their own parents know about ninty. not every teen and tween hates nintendo.
Personally, I think that the PS360 fanboys are just a small, but incredibly vocal group, and most Nintendo gamers just don't speak up in schools. Most people don't want to be different in school, and if a bunch of people are talking about their 360s and CoD or Halo, and they associate Nintendo with being "Kiddy" then they probably wouldn't speak out for the fear of being called "Kid" for having A Nintendo system. I don;t think Nintendo is going anywhere soon, and their next system will probably destroy Microsoft and Sony by removing their hardware advantages while appealing to all audiences. I think the biggest indicator of that would be the 3DS.
well, even though teenagers and such all have 360s, smaller children, adults, seniors play wiis, and thats a much larger demographic. so, one day nintendo may just become something like Leapster, just making casual games marketed solely to non-gamers, but im not sure that nintendo will actually die out
and not all teens are CoD obbsessed, nintendo bashing "HARDCORE LOLZ" gamers. the kids in my class are mainly Microsoft fans, but they also like nintendo. they dont really ridicule me cause im a nintendo gamer, they accept my opinion. maybe i just got lucky, but i dont really think people IRL are huge fanboys, but online is a whole nother level
Hi there I dont post often on here but use this site alot at it is awesome. I am a huge nintendo fan and have fond memories of my SNES in the early 90s, N64 and more recently the WII and virtual console. I work as a high school teacher and each year meet a lot of kids (age 11-16). Often, they mention video games in conversation, which I pick up on and they seem surprised that anyone over 25 would play video games. The VAST majority of these young people have either x box 360 or PS3 and the VAST majority are into COD/HALO/FIFA/GTA etc etc. Basically typical teenage fodder, shooting and death or football (proper football). When I tell them about my WII they often respond by saying 'thats a kids console' or 'zelda is rubbish' or the WII has 'crap graphics'. There are a few kids around with a WII but they are a small minority. The problem here is that todays 'new' gamers are totally unaware of Nintendo's heritage in gaming. Kids are not playing and appreciating games like Mario and Zelda. They see these games as 'kiddy' despite the fact they are actually kids themselves. Kids are unaware that Nintendo was making games way before sony and microsoft. They also feel that anything not in HD and without gritty sci fi settings, blood and massive guns is just not cool. Therefore, who are the people that play Nintendo's games? Well, is it older gamers that know about Nintendo's heritage and quality? Casual gamers may play Wii sports etc, which sells consoles, but who is going to buy Nintendo's hardcore games? Yes Nintendo also puts out shooters like conduit, red steel, or even metroid. However the kids already have COD, Dead Space, Bioshock etc in HD. They do not own a Nintendo console. My concern is that eventually Nintendo will be shunned by the current generation of gamers who see the WII as a toy and not a serious gaming machine, largely due to ignorance and misconceptions about their software. Nintendo may one day go the same way as SEGA........
You are seriously wrong there, I am 14 and have been a fan of Nintendo ever since the N64. Also 13+ are not children, in case you didn't know. I love my DS and HATE my Wii because the Wii simply has a MAJORITY not minority but a majority of bad games. The Wii mostly has games directed at children or at soccer moms. The games simply just aren't fun. The Wii is the only current gen system I have yet I enjoy my Xbox, PS2, and Gamecube MUCH more than any Wii game. The Wii is just a failure in the eyes of me and MANY MANY other fans. If you were a true Nintendo fan you would see that the WIi is a huge flop and DOES NOT have that zest that the other Nintendo consoles have, mainly because the majority of the games are simply horrible. Super Mario Galaxy is fantastic and so is Zelda, but Wii Party, Wii Sports, and Wii Music are HORRIBLE! I have YET to see a Wii game that can compete with the likes of Halo Reach, and no don't try to give me the same old Zelda and Mario because they don't compare. Metroid Prime could have compared if they had put in online play, but they didn't. The old school approach just doesn't work anymore, it's boring and washed out. Without online play the game simply gets lonely and boring once your stuck on a part or have completed the game. Kids today like the Wii, teenagers do not like the Wii.

You see, I love mario and Zelda but when they are put up against a game like Halo Reach or KillZone 3... Well they get murdered. Mainly because these games give you sooo much more freedom, the ragdoll physics and very fun and make for some hilarious moments, and the maps are just HUGE! BUT if Nintendo were to spice up Mario with some online co-op and voice chat it would be a blast. But the main thing is they don't compare. Metroid does, but it gets murdered horribly too. On the fun factor I would give it to Halo and killzone, because of these memorable moments and huge maps. It's simply more fun. Most people who think the games are generic simply HAVE NOT played them. I supported the Wii until I played a 360/PS3 for my first time.

if you were to to compare maps, im preeeety sure both mario, zelda, and metroid all beat halo and killzone. metroid is frickin huge, and zelda is also. and NSMBwii has 77 maps. in terms of freedom, zelda and metroid are fun in the sense that theres a ton of extra unlockables throughout the game where as in halo the rules and gameplay are fairly simple... but mario is pretty linear. next time if you wanna compare map size and freedom, choose a free world game buddy.
I hate to say this, but everyone that is kid/teen bashing might want to look back into that dark and awkward time when they (and me, i'm 24) were an adolescent. We were just as immature as the kids are today. we had the same lust for newer and better technology and newer things (in general) that surpassed our fathers (or mothers for you ladies out there). Its like no one has read 'lord of the flies' before .....
